The Beginning of Our Long Sail to Grenada for Hurricane Season. Catching a Blue Marlin on Day 1.

- čas přidán 2. 07. 2024
- After a month of boat repairs and upgrades we load up with food and fuel and work our way out of the hurricane belt. The fish are biting and the storms are brewing. Grenada is our destination for hurricane season as that is one of the places far enough out of the statistical hurricane belt that insurance will allow us to go and still cover the boat for a named storm.

I absolutely love Tula’s excitement for fishing. Bravo, absolutely inspiring
Gotta tell you guys I've been watching since Billy's1st trawler in Gilgo.. I'm and old retired drummer/bartender that spent some time in Blue Point, so Billy's family name was known to me. I can't begin to count the times being stressed beyond the max in NYC you guys have taken me out of the depths to some great adventures.. Thanks again and happy sails to you. P.S. hugs to Jetty!!!
Like me you are a real person that remembers his footage
What a catch! Dream fish for a lot of us, please dont under estimate how amazing that catch was. Great job on the revive and release as well. Jumping like crazy, such a perfect catch right there. Great memory for the new boat!
So glad you were able to get out of the path of Beryl. Whew!
Grenada :(
This is when being a CZcamsr really pays off because you have such great footage that you are generally filming or ready to film. That was a huge Blue Marlen. You guys did well to even get it to your boat. I was really happy when you released him. Such a beautiful creature. Honestly, I don't know how you would have gotten that size fish into your boat with just the two of you. He looked to weigh a lot. What a special memory that will be.
What? Bot....it is spelled M-a-r-l-i-n
Great job with the marlin! Thank you for holding him while he recovered before you released him. We once had a marlin on line when he jumped and got tail wrapped by the leader, and we reeled him in backwards. We held on to him for around 30 minutes or longer while he recovered. We watched the water off the stern and saw him leap in the air as to signal to us he was ready for another day! Yellow fin tuna are the best. We would grill tuna steaks and cook extra filets for tuna salad the next day. Fair winds and following seas.
Good on you two for reviving that Marlin and letting it go. Someone else may or may not enjoy catching it again but it's now alive and well. Good job on the Yellow Fin. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
Great job y’all! I have to say your fishing skills have improved immensely over the years!! Dang, a monster Blue Marlin and big ole Yellow Fin… that is some great fishing!!
Hope you guys are safe up there! 🤘🏼😎
Let's hope you are not near Beryl.
Stay safe out there.
I won't spoil it for you lol. Next video should be a good one though.
@xxturbowesxx OK, just hope they are safe.
They were mentioned by YT channel The Adventure Crew during their hurricane livestream in Granada and seem to be doing well and in the same anchorage.
@@jackchen5290thanks
Did you ever get the leak in your dinghy leak squared away? If so, how?
How old is jetty now? She's such a great fur baby. I miss her CZcams channel. Cheers.
Sierra you have the most beautiful smile. Omg I had no clue that the insurance was that crazy.
Thank you! I have always wondered the same thing about barnacles and bottom paint! It still does not make any sense to me, but it’s one of those things that we have to do. Thanks for bringing it up. You solved a big debate. We love you’re doing and I love this episode!
What an amazing beautiful life you guys are living. God has been good to you, and you have worked hard for it too. God bless you 🙏❤
Me and Jetty going grey together, at least we both get enjoy the travels in our separate ways. Safe travels crew.
Embarking on your long sail to Grenada for hurricane season and catching a blue marlin on day one is an epic start to your adventure. Your passion for sailing and the sea shines through in every detail you share. And I am Floating Village Life

Sure would be nice to hear from you guys, Even if it's 5 minutes. Beryl is in all our minds. Stay safe.
I never knew how much was involved to go sailing. I guess if was easy, everyone would be doing it. You guys really make it look easy. I'm sure it's not. Thanks for taking us along 😊
Stay safe, guys, and away from bad weather.
SO GLAD to see Lauriesue hiding from Beryl (yesterday) in the hurricane hole in southern Grenada! Stay safe guys!
Fish on, so nice to see you people catching some quality fish. You'll be eating good in the neighborhood😊
I'm sure you're way ahead of the storm, God bless 💖🙏 safe travels
Safe sailing and Happy Fourth of July from Columbus, Ohio.
Great job fishing.
That black n blue thumb nail looks like it really hurt! Good fishing is good times! So happy y'all get to go south!
For a guy that never caught a billfish before, you did a great job of reviving that one. You looked like a pro. As for those strainers, see if you maybe have the inlet & outlet sides reversed. The outlet passage on a strainer housing is often smaller & clogs as you described if you mistakenly use it as an inlet.
Next time you paint the bottom, get a fresh jar of ground cayenne pepper. Have it shaken into the paint. Doesn't change the color and it works wonders. I learned that from a Capt I fished with in CR.
Nice Marlin and Yellowfin! Man those Yellowfin are beasts and fight like heck. Congrats, love the fishing segments.
The fishing between cat and San Sal is some of the best in the whole Bahamas. Huge wahoo off San Sal especially in the winter months ✌️
Nicely done catching the yellow fin!!
At 22:49 that’s a Bahama Mockingbird singing. Those occasionally show up in Florida. They are a little larger than our Northern Mockingbirds with a white-tipped tail and without white wing bars. The underside is streaked mostly on the sides.
The Laurie Sue rode out the hurricane in Egmont Lagoon in the mangroves. A new channel I watch is the Adventure Crew and they filmed all the boats holding on for dear life. The Video is in the live feeds. It looks like it was the safest place in Grenada. It might be a good site to look at since they had some real time interviews on US network news.
Seems they don‘t have AIS. 🤨
The safest place in Grenada was Trinidad. Been here 9 years and finally had to flee. I have to say if I were in Egmont I would have stayed. 14+ boats grounded in Prickly Bay and several more unsalvageable still afloat.
I like the Skeleton Tula shirt merch...nice vids kids! keep them coming
We sailed down from St Lucia last Friday arriving Saturday. We got Mediterranean mooring at Ft Louis Marina in Grenada. Stripped the boat down on Sunday and rode out the hurricane. Watoosh and us came through fine but Carriacou was devastated. We are now out in the bay putting the boat back together. I agree with you on bottom paint.
That’s a lot of sharks 🦈. lol !
About the 90* sea strainer fittings, search for long radius 90s to replace the sharp angle 90s
Good recommendation! We’ve used them before. They are also called “full-flow 90” or “full-flow elbow”
I‘d rather replace those sea strainers. 🫣
@@spaRTan3246 granted that would probably be the best choice but long radius 90s would be the most economical and fastest and easiest remedy, if they still have clogging problems they can still upgrade
Sometimes the fittings are called constant radius fittings. Check out a race car fabrication supply company. Not cheep but won’t clog like that and give full flow very close to a straight fitting. Love the show. Glad you’re back on the water.
Also called sweep 90s.
Great video knowing that videos generally run behind current date I hope that somehow you missed rough weather and that your in calm seas. I always follow storm development leaving africa via YT channels oh and nice catches that was a big marlin
I love watching y’all!! Good clean language lol and i can actually sit and watch y’all with my 5 yr old gran daughter with out covering her ears I am so impressed by your work ethic what a grand life
Great episode. Blue marlin! Good insurance info.
With how fast your boat is and the advance notice you got and would expect you to have gotten out of Beryls way. I hope my guess is right. Stay safe. ❤🙏
Hope you guys made it through the storm ok...seen your boat on someone's feed...good luck
Great to see you all made it safe from Beryl. Thank Adventure Crew for providing a live stream. Must have been a hell of a ride!
Good job on the marlin handling and reviving. Stop Grenada just got wiped out!!! Jt
Good times , thanks for sharing !
Great release. Time for a Marlin Flag with a date!!
Good episode guys. Glad yall are safe
Love you kids! It's awesome to see you catching your food. Great job, Sierra. Safe travels. ❤
Been on that margaritaville boat lol.
I really love your channel. Because it's just the two of you plus jetty. It's the most realistic sailing channel that's out there.
Must be a good period for Seawinds trolling for Marlins. We caught two Blue Marlins on our 1260 in our 700 mile sail from Barra de Navidad up into the Sea Of Cortez last week. Brought both 200 pounders to the boat and released fish to swim free and lure safely returned to tackle box.
Get rid of the 90's for sure. Cover your intakes with BIG wedge strainers. Lastly get some Groco sea strainers
Great video guys looking forward to your trip, beautiful
Have a safe trip , see Zatara is out on the hard there .
Amazing! Loved watching that Marlin dance!
Wow! What a catch. Looking forward to more sailing 🇨🇦❤️
Great to see you guys catching fish!! Be safe! 👍
Such a pleasure to watch! And Jetty is so cute - love his ears!
Excellent taste in beer btw. Loves me some Sweetwater IPA.
The (self-polishing) bottom paint I use has around 30 % copper by weight. No barnacles. Unpainted hulls get completely covered with barnacles in a few weeks. So a good bottom paint should work.
Awesome fishing. Congrats.
thanks for letting the sword fish go.
Awesome as always.
That was exciting ! And fun.
Awesome vid guys, stay safe.
Great video,thanks!
Very fun to watch, thanks 🙏
Awesome job catching fish.
Nice Catch!!
What a lovely video I just found your channel thank you.
Hope you guys made it through the storm safely 🙏 quick update would be nice ❤
Congratulations on your first blue Marlin very cool🎉
Great video. Love the beautiful tasty fish especially the marlin.
always good content and a good watch crew , keep 'em coming
Good job guys.
Can you pressure back wash those strainer pipes and elbows ... If you have to go through a 90deg turn its better to have a smooth bend than a sharp elbow.
Better still is to have a closed keel cooling loop .
By now you've heard and seen what Hurricane Beryls up to and how its tracking with more brewing behind it. 😢
For a bottom hull like that, you need a NEMO! Electric hull cleaner good up to 164ft underwater. You will save yourself time and soreness by using Nemo Power Tools. I am not sponcered by Nemo, I just love the hull cleaner I purchased from them....
Love cat cay, thank you guys
What an amazing adventure nice fishing.
Sierra , you are such a great commentator , and fisherwoman.
Thanks for releasing that blue Marlin.
I use long bend sweep 90° fitting for just about all typed of plumbing I do. I hate plastic fitting due to how restricitive they are for the size. I prefer high quality strainless steel fittings.
Nice work on reviving the marlin 🎉
Awesome video
Dang you’re making me miss my deep fishing days. Nice catch 😊
LOL +++++ CK THE AUDIO YOU HEAR VERY CLEARLY WHEN THE REEL MAXED OUT / HIT THE SAFETY +++ LOL THATS A WAY TO USE THE WORD ENTELECHY ++++ LOL
Awesome fishing !! 🙂😀😄
Yeah!!!!😊 I can't wait for what comes next 🤠
So awesome👍👍
Fish ON! Love it!
Nice release.
So, Happy you released the Marlin. Happy Independence Day!
GOOD JOB
