The s is the model with the plastic instead of gold plated connectors? Why did you pick that over the 9500 base model?

Massdrop has these on now (says 15 hours left...could have sworn it said 7 hours before)...anyway, took a chance on them and I think they're a perfect compliment to the HD 650s. Wide ( 650s ) vs Close (X00s)... couldn't be happier. Played some "Rogue One" at the end where they send the transmission and Vader's scene... wow. The X00s was just toying with me. Great purchase..great product, great find Zeos. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the review, man. Got one on ebay recently. Then I just made a detachable cable mod with 2.5mm jacks, custom balanced cable and put HM5 sheepskin pads. They are perfect now.

I had the Denon AH-D2000s for the last 5 years. I believe Fostex manufactured for Denon (this model appears to be nearly identical) but the relationship between the companies soured and Fostex went to market themselves. Your assessment of the cable is 100% accurate. The quarter inch adapter destroyed my Scarlett 2i2. Ultimately, the cable shorted out as the cable near the cups became increasingly mangled over time. Before the Denon's I had some Sennheiser HD555s that I lost. Now I'm back in the market trying to strike a balance between the analytical, open soundstage and imaging of the Sennheisers and the more fun, intimate sound signature of the Denon's/Fostex. Currently leaning towards the Monoprice Monolith M1060s and a Schiit Stack. Thanks for your reviews Zeos. They have been very helpful.

Then watch the X00 purple heart review. That is a heck of an opinion change. I personally trust his purpleheart video, as it is newer.
These....were the headphones I risked everything on as my first pair of real headphones, despite everything else that I heard was the best pair at the time. I was incredibly stupid for risking it, but god damn did it pay off.
For my next act of stupidity, soldering on HMC connectors (apparently one of the very few connectors that fit in the enclosure with minimal damage unfortunately). And who doesn't love those HMC connectors....
the Thinksound ON 1 is a set of cans also made of wood and they sound amazing !!
I got these from the first drop. I completely agree, these are amazing. My Grail hunt has finally ended. PS, driven well by my ZX2. Perfect.

Looking to pick up a new pair of headphones: warm, tight, full, punchy bass, solid detailed mids and fair clarity in the highs. Up to ~$450 budget, ofc will go lower. Don't need soundstage. Preferably closed. I'm looking at thx00's, but am I missing out by not going planar? Other options I was exploring were t50rp 's and modded variants.
The new Purpleheart drop has detachable cables and it's a very high quality 8' cable with a very heavy steel connection.
Hi Zeos, can you give me your thoughts on these compared to the ZMF headphones you've tried? How does the bass and mid range compare. I have the ZMF Vibro ii and they have excellent bass extension and mid range for vocals I find. Massdrop has a drop on the X00's at the moment and I'm trying to avoid purchasing something similar to what I have. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
So, I really like these headphones, they are available in Massdrop again as ebony version. Nevertheless, Fostex has released the TH610, which have detachable cable. Between those two, which one could be the best choice?

I like the look of the mohagami, I can't find them anywhere. I'm gonna buy the purple heart ones but I'm gonna buy the mohagami ones because they claim they are slightly different.. if I can find them or they drop them again or release them.

Have you tried swapping the mad dog pads onto the thx00? The mids are a bit recessed and I'm debating whether I should sell mine or try the pad switch mod.

I resisted these before in the last drop with the purplehearts because I thought I didn't need them, but now the ebony version is dropping and it's sooo hard to resist. I think I'm going to go for it this time and finally get my first "real" audiophile headphones (I guess it's a good thing I waited :p), I just wish the ship date wasn't all the way in November.

Random but I'm wondering if you have ever tried Massdrop's O2+ODAC (revB) DAC/Amplifier? I ask because I managed to join the second drop for the TH-X00 and plan to use it with that DAC/Amp and wanted to know if it would be a good pairing.
I love them , I just ordered the ma 900, I know what's coming because of all the reviews and sound demo, also ordered the denon ah d600, and my last will be the v moda m100 and the tascam th02, maybe later I'll get others but , it's not necessary, I also have the little v moda m80 and the crossfade, not great until you have to eq it
just got my t20rp, out of the box the mids impress, somewhat bass-heavy and tamed highs, a sound i call elegant and it's very much like my senn hd558. let's see how they fare after a burn-in period.

Zeos, I just bought the X00s. I used to listen to music on soundcloud. but since I got better cans, I want to switch to better quality audio files or streaming. Where should I get music from? I usually listen to music on my phone(andriod) and do not have any cds to rip audio off from. Give me help.

I have the ebonies and love them, but they are not without a couple issues. Are there any headphones out there that compete with these in terms of bass extension and impact while providing better mids, detail, imaging, and less sibilant highs?

These share a resemblance to my AH-D5000 s, the cable, headband, mechanism for attaching to the headband, etc
Unfortunately my left driver in them died like 6 months ago and no amount of fiddling I've done has been able to fix them. And none of the places that had been offering repairs responded to my emails.
Oh god, coming back to this review after seeing Z swap pads on every TH-X00 variation, and then 6:53 . Somethings not adding up...
Z loves to change pads.
How would these compare against the HE400S ? They're at the same price point but have different drivers.

Heresy, I know, but have you tied these with the Shure 1540 Alcantara pads? AMAZING! They keep the great punchy extended bass and bring up the mids and highs a tad. For my ears, much better balanced overall. Detail is exquisite.

By the way, your Audio Technica ATH-AD1000X make me want to get one of those too.. Pricing of that model here is ridiculous, almost double than Amazon. I'm hoping Massdrop can do a drop on those too

Im deciding whether to buy the o2 amp/dac combo for these headphones or the olympus e10. Which one do you think would be better for these headphones or do you recommend a better alternative? (mainly desktop use)
The O2 is a better setup. The E10k might push them but for what they cost and how they sound you should probably spend a bit more on the combo.

just bought them on ebay for 475 brand new open box he didn't like the signature, whatever, I saw pictures they are mint, do you believe I made a good choice.

For sub bass, I think the Soundmagic hp151 are pretty damn good, especially for the cost. I do think the combination of large 53mm driver and light cup causing you to literally feel it helps. Normally, I wouldn't like the physical shaking of cups but in this case there's no rattle and it just works. Meanwhile companies like Skull candy add stupid accessories to give this effect and its horrible.
For the money, I think the hp151 are among the best and a cheap alternative to these.

I commented on your ModHouse Argon video not long ago and now I'm very interested in these headphones. I'm just between a lot of options, haha. I was considering an Oppo HA-2 Amp/DAC but is the sound upgrade worth the price of everything if I get these? Or should I just stick with these headphones without the DAC on an Android Phone, MacBook Pro, and my Yamaha A-S2000 Amplifier?

EE-MU Teac I have an upcoming review. I think they best these and the 610
I currently have a Schiit Stack (Magni 2 Uber + Modi 2 Uber). Would you say that setup is okay for these headphones? I know they're low impedance and they don't need a lot of amplification, but I was wondering what amps pair well with these. I was considering buying a tube amp for these and the Senn 6XXs I will be receiving in the future. I'm wondering what Zeos has them plugged into in the video. Sorry if I missed it during watching.
Yeah the stack will be fine. A tube will work best with the 600's. You can just share the Modi output.

+Daniel All headphones will go with a tube it is just not advantageous in any way unless the distortion is the kind you are looking for.
I mean because of the impedance. If noise would not be a problem with such a low impedance on the TH-X00. Yeah, well about distortion I don´t have it yet, Just won it on ebay for 40 bucks, I am not spending 200 on something i havent tried, ha...

Would love to know how these compare to the ebony. Massdrop claims the ebony bass extends further and the sound is more refined. Is that even true? Are the ebony worth the extra 100 bux if you only care about sq?

i am considering getting these and modding them to have a more practical detachable cable. I plan th use them to commute and at work with my phone as a source. and I listen mostly to heavy stoner rock and metal. any advice against that?

I do. They are unique in their execution and no matter the wood pretty damn amazing.
Apparently the initial manufacturing investment was to high for the removable cable, so they decided to compensate by making a cable that would never break.
