  • I'm actually really impressed with the Lumix G9 compared to the Lumix GH5. The G9 is basically the Micro Four Thirds photo version of the GH5 with some really great video specs. Other than a few other cinematic features like shutter angle and exposure monitors, I would say the G9 holds up pretty well against the powerful video specs and performance of the GH5. Check out the vid to see the 4K60p 8Bit B-Roll Battle.

    There was more of a difference, in these examples, of your operating styles rather than in the quality of the files in themselves. I think the cameras go hand in hand with one another, especially if one is a true hybrid shooter! They make a great pair.🙏🏾

      that is something with these battles is the difference in shooting styles and experience with the cameras but we're just having some fun and it's all light hearted. if we got really technical than i'd probably just do the comparisons my self.

    • @Berniz123
      @Berniz123 Před 3 lety +1

      60fps yes, 120 no. Basically gh5 has vfr mode and there is only MF. Normal shooting modes which go up to 60fps can use auto focus without issues. But that being said, when I started I used auto focus a lot, now I barely ever use it. Since it can actually mess up the shot.

It's very handy to use AE lock button to auto focus before the shot and then film with manual focus. I need your help deciding. I haven't owned a camera but here is what I'm thinking.
    here are my options
    Xt4, gh5, g9, blackmagic 4k, A7s iii
    I'm looking to use them for all around Videography, like car broll, real estate video, basically a good broll camera (with possibly vlogging and photo features.)
    I know the Sony is too expensive for me but would he a great perfect option. Xt4 was solid untill I saw its stabilisation which is terrible. Black magic is a beast but lack autofocus which might be annoying, no stabilisation (but I could in the future buy a vlogging camera and have a good video camera that doesn't need autofocus, so blackgamic might be a good idea)
    G9 has decent autofocus, good quality, great stabilisation and pretty good video features.
    Gh5 has unlimited recording, older and maybe a not as good sensor, worse autofocus, good stabilisation aswell.
    I need help because I can't decide! Hopefully somone can help. Is autofocus and stabilisation a needed crutch for a beginner? Imo I feel like stabilisation will be more important than autofocus but idk. And I've heard the black magic is a pain to edit in programs other than davinchi.

    • @CalebHoover
      @CalebHoover  Před 3 lety

      yeah blackmagic might not be the best first camera. if you need autofocus and some good video, the sony a73 is a good option. it has some pretty good stabilization but not as great as the gh5. but the a73 is a good overall camera for photos, video, vlogging, real estate and all the things you mentioned. 🤷‍♂️

    GH5 winner here for me. The stabilization was a bit 'clicky' from the G9 at times, particularly in the 2nd battle GH5 smoothed that right out in comparison. I suppose if this battle were more photography weighted we might see the G9 shine a bit, but... for me its only really got the faster shutter speed. Nicely done! I am a G9 shooter and love the camera. It has a newer processor and better stabilization than GH5 but record limit of 30. I do have a G85 for unlimited recording if need be. I do wish I had the shutter angle and the built in focus pulling feature on GH5. That said, let’s see what the GH6 has in store!

      i was really impressed with the g9! i'm crossing my fingers for a gh6 but man, it seems like they're going all in on full frame with the new s5 being announced.

      What is the built in focus thing? And does the shutter angle thing really make the video better is or it just to make the process quicker for changing settings

    • @scottmorgason
      @scottmorgason Před 3 lety

      Provolt I believe the GH5 has a feature that allows focus pulling by predetermining the area of focus by two or through points as recording. And yes the shutter angle just allows you to skip a step in the process.

      @@scottmorgason thanks just checked it out, looks helpful but is a pretty lengthy process. I'm not sure what circumstances that would be useful in and if that's really that important. Doesn't look like a significant feature to justify a $300+ price diff

    • @scottmorgason
      @scottmorgason Před 3 lety

      Provolt it could be helpful in product shots for exact focus and allows for smooth transitioning. This is why focus pullers are paid a bunch of money on set as well. It’s an art. But hey, I get it. The G9 is my go to camera and I love it!

    It's funny that G9 has better IBIS and little bit better autofocus than GH5, but in this video it performs worse 😃

      @@CalebHoover I have a question my friend: what file format do you record in (MOV, MP4, AVCHD)? I edit with Premier Pro on a PC, so i assume .mov is not what I want to use. But im confused when it comes to mp4 or avchd...do you have a preference? And if you have a video on this, please link it bc I have looked but was unable to find it. Thanks!
