    In this video, we show you how to renew the Front Hub Wheel Bearings & Races and also replace the Brake Pads & Rotors on your FJ80 or FZJ80 Land Cruiser. This would be the same job for a Lexus LX450 since the FJ80 and LX450 are kissing cousins. This job would also translate well to any other Toyota/Lexus solid front axle vehicles like the FJ40 and FJ60 Land Cruisers, Older Toyota Pickups, and 1984/1985 Toyota 4runners.

    Excellent!
    I never reuse a cotter pin, lock washer, snap ring or dust cap if possible.
    Caliper grease on the caliper pistons is a great idea and could also help prevent corrosion.
    The organization and simple instructions of your video's is superb in my opinion.

      Thanks for the compliment Richard. We appreciate it!
      I never reuse cotter pins, but I have reused lock washers, snap rings and definitely a part like the dust cap. For snap rings, it is definitely smart to replace them, but I have got away with using them in certain applications, like the one that goes onto the end of the axle. I reused the snap rings when I was doing a service to the front axle on my 85 4runner.
      There's not much that can go wrong with the dust cap other than it getting a little chewed up during removal by the screwdriver and that can easily be cleaned up with a file or on a grinding wheel.

    Another awesome video guys. Word of caution when it comes to fish scales: Did ya check those fish scales for accuracy first with known weights? Take a 1/2 gal of water & weigh it to see if those scales show "4 lbs". A full gallon of water should weigh 8 lbs. I've been fishing all my life ( I'm 62, yikes ) and most fish scales, even when brand new, don't seem to be very accurate when weighing fish under 5 lbs. This goes for digital or analog/spring scales. Certain high quality fish scales ( like "the Boga Grip" ) can be sent to be calibrated and certified by the IGFA ( International Game & Fish Association. ) for dead-on accuracy. I have a decent set of both analog and digital fish scales. They are accurate over 5 lbs, because they both indicate the same weight when weighing objects of a known weight. But they are still kind of hokey for anything under 5 lbs. Just saying.

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Actually, a gallon of water weights 8.33 lbs. I know this because it was something I learned when I was studying to be a firefighter.
      I did put a 10 lb weight on the fish scale we used and it registered 10 lbs, so I figured it was accurate.
      I didn't know that the fish scales aren't that accurate under 5 lbs. That's good to know.
      I've been fishing all my life too and I'm 58.
      I'm glad you like the video. Happy Wrenching and Fishing!

    • @howabouthetruth2157
      @howabouthetruth2157 Před 11 měsíci

      Wow, we were always taught that a gal of water was 8 lbs. Thanks for sharing that, because 1/3 of a lb is quite a difference. Interesting. Yeah, it pretty much takes scales that are made to weigh low weights only, to be accurate under several pounds. That's why the pro tournament fishermen use a balance beam instead of scales when culling fish. Many of those tournaments are won or lost by mere ounces, so they can't trust any scale when trying to determine "which fish is heavier" of 2 fish that are very close in weight. @@TimmyTheToolman

      Thanks for noticing that. The kit part number, MCAX-1521, is the same part number for the listing for the FJ40, FJ55, & FJ60/62 and for the FJ80. @@serge1060 I haven't done wheel bearings on a LX470 or 100 Series Land Cruiser so I'm making an assumption on the wheel bearing set-up since it doesn't have a solid front axle, it's IFS.
