    I just repacked my Birfields, installed new wheel and trunnion bearings. Also installed spindle studs, drive flange studs, etc. It took me a long time but this video was crucial and I can’t emphasize enough how helpful this was. I also used the wits end axle seal driver for the inner axle seals and it worked perfectly. The wits end knuckle diagram poster was also very helpful. I would also suggest watching exactly the manner in which he does things as well as absorbing the narrative.

    Awesome video! I wish I would've had this when I was doing mine. Even with all the info online I still had questions, all which you answered in this video. For example the amount of grease to use (yes, I know it's 2/3 of the knuckles but my 2/3s could be different from yours, etc) so having an actual amount like 1 tub is great for someone that's never done it before. Another one is that you're supposed to use moly grease for the trunion bearings, when doing mine I ended up taking a guess and using red wheel bearing grease. While I don't think it will hurt anything, I always like knowing I used the right stuff. Maybe one day I'll take it apart, clean, and re-grease them with the correct stuff. Good job and keep the helpful videos coming!

    Incredibly helpful video Ryan. I've never attempted something like this and your information gave me the confidence to try it. It took me a big full day to do both sides, but I couldn't be happier. I bought the Wits End axle seal driver from Joey, glad I did, because there was a groove in my axles. You may have mentioned it, but my only scary moment was when I thought I lost the spring on the back of the axle seal inside the axle housing, I did find it though. It was helpful for me to have the photocopied the exploded view schematic with torque specs and tape to the fender while I worked. I couldn't get the birfields apart, but a can of brake cleaner and a power washer got everything clean. I also used your video for my front main seal, oil pump gasket, and distributor o-ring. You are a legend for this video. Just bought a 94 cruiser and according to the shop I had wheels and tires done on, they couldn't align it (I pull about 15-20 degrees left to go straight) because they say the driver front wheel is being pushed right by the king pin knuckle. I am super ignorant to all of this stuff right now and so had no idea what they're talking about. This video has helped me entirely understand the structure of the knuckle now. However, I still am confused as to how this could be pushing the wheel to the right like they say..

    • @OTRAMM
      @OTRAMM  Před 2 lety

      I don't know how the knuckles could cause a pull unless the bearings are either way too tight or loose. Even then I'd think it would wander rather than pull. I'd check and see if the left caliper is sticking.

    I've done this job a lot and this is a good video.One thing I highly recommend (And not sure why he hasn't done this? ) is replace all king pins studs, Nuts and cone washers also a drop of loctite on King pin studs inside the swivel hub as 80 series are common for the king pin studs to loosen and we don't want that on the track.

    • @OTRAMM
      @OTRAMM  Před 4 lety +1

      I prefer to just check the torque regularly. I've had several come through the shop that had the studs loctited to the knuckle. When those studs broke they were a huge mess to get out of the knuckle. Non loctited studs spin out freely when they break. The nut hugger from Wits' End is the best looking solution. Positive retention without locktite.

      I used a different camera filming this one. Most of the time the video was clearer, had some issues with focus though. i think some of it was because I had 2 cameras going and was biasing more heavily towards the other since I could see it's monitor. I think if I use this camera again I'll get one of the add on monitors so I can see real time.

    I was thinking to do this as preventative maintenance but since your shop does the whole job (both sides) for $200 I will probably just have you guys do it. ;-)
    Great, informative video as usual. Thanks for this.

      $200 for both sides is a great price. I need to do mine but I rarely have time and working outdoors in the winter sucks.

      @@jaimereyes7480 I was just joking on the price..haha...would be cool if it were $200 but that's way cheap. If yours are leaking and you can wait until summer then you can do it then as long as your birfs aren't clicking and not leaking too much gear oil and/or bearing grease.

      I got quoted $1000 at valley hybrids. Still a bargain.

      @@Simple_CZcams for both sides? It's really not that hard to do as you can see in the video. If you don't have the tools it would be better to spend the money on tools that you'll have and need for the rest of your life instead of giving money to someone else to do it.

    Really great presentation! You state the information and not a whole bunch of add-on garbage info like others feel compelled to do.. Also, what kind and thickness gloves have you found to work best for dexterity and tear-resistance? Thank you…

      I rarely wear gloves. I should but haven't found any I can stand. When I do wear them I use the orange 8mil nitrile from I think glove works
