Did Rishi's 'rot' start with Boris Johnson? | The News Agents

  • We sit down with Boris Johnson's director of communications, Lee Cain.
In the last 48 hours Rishi has accused Starmer of being a threat to national security and a delight for Putin, a work-shy sloth who clocks off at 6pm, and a leader who's going to rig the electoral system forever more.
Is this the sound of a man who thinks his campaign is going to plan?
Perhaps the problem began long long before Rishi Sunak called the election - or even got into power.
We ask the man who presided over Boris Johnson's 2019 campaign - Director of Comms Lee Cain - if he accepts the rot set in with him. The lies, the Covid parties, the narcissism - and the opportunities missed by the last Conservative PM to hold onto his massive majority.

He said is was austerity doing the damage, but that was his parties idea, its what they insisted was the only way, now they admit it was their choice just a pity it did so much damage, but some of us were saying that it was and would from the start.

As with all his kind, it's always someone else's fault. The whole party and its machinery have worked off the premise of never accepting responsibility or accountability for years now, Johnson and the people around him accelerated that exponentially.

Perhaps those who sneer should learn more about Lady Starmer's Jewish heritage. Sunset on Friday is the start of the Sabbath, which is marked by a shared family meal. This is a tradition which even Jewish families who are not otherwise "religious" have followed for more than 2,000 years - part of the "glue" which has held them together to survive the diaspora, inquisitions and the holocaust. As a teenager with a Jewish girlfriend, I made time for her to have dinner at home on Friday evenings; she made time for me to attend church on Sunday. [NB also what T May used to do on Sunday mornings!]

Lee cain, MAN UP, you were responsible for not telling Boris & the campaign to stop lying, & not telling what was possible & what was not.

Some are skipping over what he said, and opining as if they hadn't. He said there would be exceptions, but he was still committed to an already-existing family pattern. In my book, that is a decent family man who also recognizes his responsibility to the State. There is no there, there. Calm down.

Brilliant interview by Emily, gets to the very heart of problem.👏🏼 Typical deceitful Boris, ‘everything OK as it is / too hard to change’ etc. But wasn’t OK or hard at all to speak about change when playing on people’s fears & lives during Brexit campaign & in order to get into power. That deceit’s continued with Liz Truss, Sunak & rest of party - I’ve never seen this level of lies & misinformation in our politics ever! That public mistrust does now affect Starmer & Lab too, rubs off on all politicians & Tories have been pushing that mistrust of him. No politicians are liked much atm, we’ve all become disillusioned.

These Tory attacks and spin are so pathetic that they are almost adorable. (I AM A CHICKENHAWK AND I"M GONNA GET ME SOME CHICKEN!) But along with the pity I remember the damage that has been done and get back to rage.

It's a classic case of transference. All they accuse Labour of is exactly what the Conservatives already have done.
I respect Starmer for saying that he will try and keep his Friday evening family time. He'll be literally working in his house.
