Forget the Cafe Nero BS and present your case.
I find the lack of taking an official stance on nonces and podcasts disappointing.
Love podcasts. Hate nonsense. Hate nonces. Hate shit clapping intros.
We must remind them every time.
A troubling sign of the times! This post Oli regime, really need to outline their stance
I'm still fuming
i find their lack of faith disturbing
That BoJo journo hit audio overlay is probably the most genius thing I've seen on the podcast.
Time stamp please?
@gideonpepys Around 30 minutes

It really confused the fuck out of me
🤣 Biggup Laura and Seán₂ 🙌 boss level shit
Do they ever address that Seán had a body double in the opener?
only comment i’ve seen thank you
Thought I was going mad
I think the “nothing to see here” caption was them low-key addressing it
12:16 - "Could care less about the UK", they care a lot then
No, they must care at least a little and maybe but not necessarily a lot.
Excellent nod to Americans who use this phrase often, and always incorrectly
They COULD care less... But not by much.
Pet hate!
The core 3 pod members are a great group, and I get that not everyone can do every podcast, but if Laura and Sean were added for a big 5 podcast I think you'd reach the pinnacle of poljoe
Sorry, who was that at the beginning pretending to be Sean?
For those of us older individuals who were in despair when Thatcher and her neoliberalism were voted into Number 10, i would ask you to be a bit more generous in your remarks about my generation. All my instincts told me that it was going to be the beginning of the end of everything i held dear, a safety net for all , basic utilities that we all owned.I was 36 yrs old at the time, working as a Health visitor and living in a bed sit. Not all of us had it easy, i never changed my mind.
My mum was like you. She struggled financially throughout her life and always hated thatcher and then John Major for making the country worse off for ordinary people. I’m 36 and I know Kier Starmer is just going to continue austerity and he’s a red Tory. I’m really worried how much worse it’s going to get for my family and the country.
Is the postal vote issue not just a beautiful example of karma seeing as it was privatised at a discount under the Tories !!
Fucking yes Laura: 'it isn't a tax rise it's removing a tax break for the rich'.
Jesus, 8 years since Brexit 😱. Now I feel old, and I now have a teenage son asking me how easy it is to study in Europe 🤣
My son, who's mum voted Brexit, has been quizzing me on it for his gcse politics why so many people voted for it, and what they think now... i had to explain many of them have died since...
Well, if you're any kind of a parent, maybe you could let your son know that the Turing scheme has replaced the Erasmus programme, so now he can study/work all around the world, not just in Europe.
@@TomT243 Shame if they actually wanted to work in Europe then...
@@TomT243 A bajillion times more complicated though. I'm going through the process and it sucks :/
@@zoranblackie5921 They can still study/work in certain parts of Europe..but hey it must suck for you that you only want your kids to stay Europe-bound, & not explore the actual world out there. I pity your kids.
USA generally thinks of the UK as either "historical entity from the Independence War" or "one of those small European places with castles and where people talk funny" xD
American here. Britain is like History Land at Disney World, but dirtier. We generally think that Britain’s major social issues are too burdensome for any political party to solve. You have ten million too many people living in the UK. And the NHS as constructed and financed is impossible to fix, I have no idea how you’ve lived with it for so many years. Good luck with the election tomorrow, hope is eternal.
@@danziegner Haha. That's a rich opinion.
Are they wrong? 😅
@@olixz Maybe so, but glass houses and all of that. I wasn't left too assured about US civil society after a recent trip to San Francisco. Quite a different city from when I visited 20 years ago, and not for the good.
It’s going to be weird going back to one pod a week… what am I going to do on my lunch breaks 😂
One minute they’re enemies, next minute they’re allies, it’s no fucking wonder the Tories are imploding!
Wow that was a quick 6 weeks! Thanks for making it better with these! 😂
Hurricane Boris has just arrived back from Jamaica
Oh no, he didn't talk about 'watermelon smiles' again did he? I better not mention it in case he calls me a 'tank-topped bum-boy' again
Boris was praising himself. I expect he's been promised a seat in the Lords.
Feel cheated every time when there's just applause to start
BloJo wants his Churchill return to politics moment. Do not count out his narcassism.
Pojo finally getting the scoop on the Boris asking a journalist to get beaten up call 😱
Boris, was a US citizen and was born in New York. Despite him renouncing his citizen. Because he was born there, he could ask for it back. So he could EASILY make his way to congress in the US. Which I feel is MUCH more suited to Johnson's style of politics and would not be suprised
As a M.A.G.A republican
Did Ed get younger?
😂
@@zoranblackie5921 and hotter 😰
@@user-mx9iq7pi6u So it's not just me, then? That's reassuring.
My italian friend had no idea who Keir Starmer was.
Do you honestly think those of us who grew up under Thatcher don’t understand how difficult things are for young people now? We were their trial run!
Yes they mean you personally. They think everyone who's in the same age bracket is exactly the same and thinks the same way. You should write to the editor.
@@tersecwalsingham5778 They don’t mean me personally, it’s just a lazy generalisation. Every generation makes them, it’s nothing new.
@@ffotograffyddso you knew the answer to your question already
@@lazorr3260 I was making a point, mate. 😂
@@ffotograffydd sorry this is a youtube comments section, points aren't allowed
What is nuts now, is people are buying houses and flats purely to rent in cities like Prague and Budapest, pushing up rents and homelessness their.
Stop eating things you’re allergic to that’s how I ended up in hospital with anaphylaxis!
this is to all you out there that lost your loved ones all the hearts on the wall in London all died off COVID you could not see them or hold there hands as they Slipped away from you as you
were told YOU MUST STAY AT HOME while the whole tory party partied away not once but 27 times do it for your loved ones and make the Tories come last vote them OUT OUT OUT
Boris de Johnson is back?? Heaven save the UK!!
“She was writing about Reform today”
“Pro or con?”
That hit me where it’s pure
In a sense, the main opportunity afforded by Brexit was the opportunity for the UK to literally become the Homer fading into the bush meme.
It’s good to see that one of you used a sustainable/reusable container for your individual drinks. Nero use lots of plastic in their cups which cannot be recycled and the single-use plastic bottle also cannot be recycled easily. I’d love to see you guys thinking about these things. I was so distracted by your refreshments that I didn’t pay much attention to what you were saying 😢
Av. Da duo have valid points

the sweet two speak, dear. Keeps me happy and connected here living in Tokyo. So love the channel, he gushes x🎉
Bozza specifically said... they were all here..."..for one reason....to save the country .." .. i.e. NOT for Rishi...😂
Everyone loves Laura.. Can we have solo shows?
You silly gooses 🪿🪿🪿
2 things on the houses and inheritance tax - 1. If you're elderly and only have pension income remortgaging may be very difficult unless your pension income is substantial and you have adequate arrangements to payback the loan on death. 2. You have to pay inheritance tax before inheriting. It would be reasonable to allow the assets to be sold to raise the money for inheritance. E.g. the state could take a first charge against the asset so the tax is paid as part of the sale.
Guys, that green light is not a good look at all. It makes you all resemble leprechauns.
yeah. maybe add a backlit shoulder highlight first and see if it counterpoints the problem enough above the table.
I'm 71. I was brought up on a council estate. Even in the 70s, there were no council houses for singles. Even couples without children were way down the list. Private renting or buying were the only options even then.
Don’t worry Ava I’m basically allergic to everything to a low level and I just live with the pain. Should see me on a vape - I’m allergic to the flavours so I usually stick to cigs
Thatchers theres no such thing as society. Horrible doctrine
As soon as someone has multiple properties they are tied up in a business or a complicated trust to avoid inheritance tax. Look at the queen. Zero bill, how is that possible ?
Inheritance should work like Runescape where you get to keep your top 3 items on death and everything else is taken by the state
22:14 as a Londoner Ava really should know better. 850k is nothing for property in London. Anything under 5 mill really should not be liable for IHT in London. Thats literally just a victorian terraced house in Zone 2.
This podcast never looked so good.
Boris cut short his US holiday to claim his 100 MPs (dubious), or watch Rishi fall short of 100 MPs (didn't) to force a party vote that would reinstate Boris (more than likely). Nary a principle nor sense of duty between them.
Well there clearly are laws against giving away you're money whilst alive as well. No dodging the taxman for us normies.
There's not laws against it per se, but if you die shortly after giving a large gift then you pay inheritance tax on it like normal if it's due
Setup a trust with a lawyer. It only costs £1,000 or so.
I have replayed 1:40 over and over again and I cannot figure out what the guy was laughing or talking about
The way the other two are smirking as they look at him makes me think he was alluding to some personal or private info they don't want the listeners to know about. Ed would be proud of the OPSEC.
I had to check again 7 days later to be sure but someone got replaced by aliens
Alien invasion - 0:02
Aliens give back sean - 0:14
What was that ending?
See you at 2AM ❤
[Applause] Laura good morning morning Sean good morning good morning how are you how are you I'm yeah well I've been better I ate the almonds this morning didn't I
(I think this might be the first time the auto-subtitles have been 100% correct for the intro, lack of attributions aside, but until it's 100% correct, attributed, and provides a stance on nonces, this will continue! Unless I get bored first)
Is that some southern way of pronouncing almond that I wasn't aware of? Or is Ava a pod person?
I think she's just one of those people who tries to reconciled spelling to pronunciation. English doesn't work that way. Not even for Londoners.
😅I took a double take on that intro😂
Another adult intro. well done.
It would be cool if you could get Tom Nicholas on sometime
If the family home goes to children then the untaxed bit is £500K per parent so total is £1 million, which is why so few people pay inheritance tax currently obviously as assets accrue more people will but you`re still talking big money, love the show looking forward to tomorrow x
Exactly. It is absurd. Also, it benefits only children. It should be reformed so every child gets an allowance up to a modest amount and then gets pumped after that.
Next time Torsten Bell is on Joe, Ava, have a chat with him about how to become a contractor for Joe and structuring yourself as a limited company for tax purposes.
The more interesting vox in the USA would be what do you think of the UK? Followed by, what do you know about the UK.
First question: "Show me, on this map, where the UK is" and save a whole bunch a time!
Who was that man at the beginning??
Ikea Starmer as PM is frightening
I'm getting 'The more cool relaxed junior A-level teacher covering the side of the course she doesn't usually teach 'cos the serious older teacher is off leading a GCSE field trip with two students not entirely sure what the boundaries of today's class are' energy.
9:41 Cameron didn't cut the aid budget, he increased it and has said since he considers it his "legacy". He didn't do that because he really wants to help people though. Unfortunately the aid budget barely goes towards actual aid and mainly goes to help fund corporate interests doing, often fairly exploitative, deals with developing countries.
what is going on for the beginning clapping? Who is wearing Seans clothes? XD
Thatcher: The witch is dead the right worship the Witch.
He bated Spaffer? Please don't make me sick guys 😅
Ed looks different without his glasses
Vitally important q - where did Laura get her boots
The L in almond is silent
The Royal Mail doesn't work. Is it really a good idea to use a postal vote?
Nothing to do with the Royal Mail, in places where the councils were organised they went out weeks ago and were delivered promptly. I completed mine and posted it back ten days ago.
I think a huge part that is missing around the wealth tax is it is NOT eroding wealth, the people with these assets already earn roughly 5% - 7% interest on that wealth so saying pay 1% tax on wealth could be rephrased as return 1% less interest on your wealth…
Who's that imposter!?
Ahh-monds; Ahhmonds for heavens sake
13:00 - whilst the Irish flag being on those ATMs is objectively quite funny in the context of Brexit, it’s actually a really good illustration of why it’s widely considered bad practice to use national flags for language options: there are various languages one might associate with a country (and various countries one might associate with a language). Even Pol Jo favourite Welsh is a minority language in Patagonia.
The more startling linguistic point came right before this though - did Shaun say “they could care less”? The expression is “they couldn’t care less” - think it through. 😋
25:34 that’s exactly why many people don’t understand why they have to pay inheritance tax, when they’re not getting anything and something they’re getting from their parents etc, is also being taxed (remember it was already taxed at least twice (their income & also stamp duty)
The posh entitled children have paid no tax on it!! The parents did and the parents are now dead!!!! If they'd done anything to earn the inheritance they'd pay 40% on it but all they did was be the fastest swimmer!!! Its a fallacy!!! If I'm a mechanic by this logic I should never pay any tax for fixing cars....coz the person who paid me has already paid tax on the money they paid me with
@shanemurphy8682 average price of a house in london is 550000, that means a 2 bed flat. I didn't know everyone in London is "posh".
And if you said you have to pay tax if you sell the property then I would understand but in many cases people are finally getting to own in a place rent free but can't and are pushed into selling to move elsewhere
@@anebawoods5442 But nobody has paid tax on the increased value of the house.
@@rob-c. not even the most ardent communist wants to tax increase in prices, you know why? Because prices go up & down every so often, because it’s not a realised gain, because it’s a family home and most importantly because inflation is a thing
@@anebawoods5442 tax free allowance to a child can increased to 500k if left to a child....so 50k @ 40% is 20k. So they get an asset worth half a million for the price of a used Toyota!! Im positively clutching my pearls
UK is over
9:40 This would be a great theory if it wasn’t based on an inaccuracy. Foreign Aid was one of only two departments that Cameron ring fenced from cuts. To round it out by bemoaning that people don’t do enough “cognitive thinking” is too good lol.
Despite everyone hatred of the Tories I personally am hoping this collapse and the ousting of such Tories as Penny Mordaunt will clear the way for Kemi Badenoch to finally become leader of the party. In 2029 if my choice is between a Kemi run Conservative Party or Reform I'll vote for Kemi.
YOU DONT PAY INHERITANCE TAX ON YOUR PRIMARY RESIDENCE!! I don’t know why this isn’t pushed into common understanding. Inheritance tax doesn’t affect your gran if her bungalow is worth a million quid.
#second comment. Former labour supporter, current green supporter. I genuinely and whole heartedly disagree with inheritance tax. You should never be taxed on something gifted to you. This is something you (shouldn't) have control over. Also taxing the belongings of the dead is just morally wrong, in my opinion anyway
Nonsense. Inherited wealth bakes in inequality.
No oli on election week😮😢
AVA if you have almonds in small amounts over 3 months your allergies will get better and can eventually go.

yet more trauma from ava "still won't say it" santina
It is fair because it isn't even your money yet.
It's your parents' money
And then they died
It makes sense to me that more money should come from inheritance than from people's actual income that they rely on.
And if your house has increased massively in worth, then you're asset rich. That's still a form of wealth. It's 4% of households. These aren't actually poor people. They can afford to loose some money agter they're dead
