  • This is a Part 1. Part two will have a sound demo of the QSC CP8. Sound demos of the Bose S1Pro was done in other videos.
Since making this video I have purchased a Turbosound iP300. In some ways it outperforms the QSC CP8 • Outdoor demonstration ...
Also look at the Yamaha BDR10 for $390 specs say 129dB??

It works. Many performers on the Acoustic Guitar Forum use the CP8, acoustic guitar/mic plugged directly in. From my experience plugging an electronic drum directly in, I didn't have enough gain and needed a mixer. Of course the need for reverb. Great thing, the CP8 is easily run on an inexpensive 150 watt external battery!

@@WWeiss-nv5vz I don't know if I'm reading you right. Are you trying to say it's a smart move or a bad move.. But yes the CP8 is there cheapest line.. which in my opinion sounds better ALMOST THREE TIMES AS LOUD!! And they're worrying about a locking power cord? And by the way The connection for the locking power cord on the speaker needs to be paired up with a actual locking power cord!! When I do DJ jobs and jobs.. I have a ton of those type of cords not the locking kind.. I can care less if it's locked or not.. never did probably never will..
Their QSC speaker the subwoofer the newest one has a locking power cord which I have.. it's blue and it matches the subwoofer. There are times when I can care less as long as it's powered..
If you're a good engineer smart person but you know how to set things up so people won't trip over things then who cares about a locking power cord..
And to be honest with you it's amazing how the CP8 sounds compared to their higher end almost identical when I switch them back and forth.
PLAYING THE CP8 WITH MY VIRTUAL AMPLIFIERS SOUNDS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! VERY LOUD.. ONE OF THEM IS ALMOST LOUD ENOUGH TO JAM WITH AN ENTIRE BAND!!
Bose is for home use in my opinion That's who they go after for the most part.
It's just funny because all these things the guys talking about with the bows are things I never even thought of.. REALLY A BATTERY-POWERED PA SPEAKER LOL!! Very expensive You obviously have electricity if you're on stage so why not plug it in.. it doesn't make any sense unless you're in the middle of a field or something trying to Entertain someone without electric?
Never came across that yet. I have battery powered speakers small ones a lot less expensive I use when I carry to a cookout or a small get together..

The Bose S1Pro can't compare with the CP8 as far as dynamics but it has its place. It is very popular with acoustic duos, buskers, and DJ's doing outside ceremonies. If you pair two S1Pro's up wirelessly they are pretty impressive compared to the little Bluetooth speakers you are describing. The 6 lbs weight difference and smaller size compared to the QSC make it my #1, pick up and go speaker even over the CP8!

@@WWeiss-nv5vz I'm a DJ I've done weddings for over 16years.. complaining about 6 lb is nothing.. there's always electricity no matter where I've been a DJ, karaoke host, open mic, doing a show etc... Even weddings far out in castles.. there's always some place where you can plug in electricity.
CP8 is extremely light.. extremely small.. And it's a lot cheaper better in so many more ways in terms of dynamics, sound quality and volume.. just one of them is louder than two of the Bose speakers.. so actually you're carrying one speaker verses two that's a lot louder!! An extremely cheaper!! It's a no-brainer.. not to mention I always carry a small cart if I need it with wheels that goes easily into my Toyota Corolla folds up like a small tiny table.. is always a road to push it on if I need to carrying a bunch of stuff at once. I can fit a subwoofer, mixer box, two CP8s, even more on this little cart that folds up.. very light can hold up to 300 lb.. never really carrying anything. Can also just put everything on top of the subwoofer that has wheels..
So I don't know what everyone's talking about never had any of these problems you guys mentioned.. The fact that it's so much lighter carrying one of the Cp8 that performs better louder than 2 of the Bose speakers and a hell of a lot cheaper!! I mean come on it's really a no-brainer.. Carry one CP8 or put it on the little card if you don't want to just subwoofer there's always electricity.. and it will outperform two of those Bose speakers as I mentioned. A lot lighter cuz you're using one, louder, better dynamics. And let me see $800 CHEAPER!! As for the Bluetooth like I said Amazon you can get a battery-powered one that a smaller than the palm of your hand as thin as a matchbook I'm talking tiny with 5-hour battery life $15 APTX, no latency, APTX HD. things are coming down on price. You stick it right in your pocket Don't even know it's there. Feel like I said I'm a sound guy an audiophile and everything else I mentioned. Sound is it for me!! If I could plug something in I will even for backing tracks.. it just sounds better sorry.
Neither of the speakers weigh a lot.. if You are having trouble carrying the Cp8 You got to be extremely out of shape or extremely old or both. Find that kind of weird.. to me if I'm having trouble carrying one or two of those CP8s it's time for me to retire..
I'm a 51-year-old man in shape and the CP8s are a breath of fresh air for carrying if I ever need to which is rare. Like I said I got the cart and the subwoofer that also has wheels.
Most places I play have ramps too.
But to each his own... ;)
I understand all these so-called bells and whistles but they're just not valid to me at all.
There are things that matter, there are things that don't there are things that have valid and things that are not.

Glad you liked the review. I agree any time you add a second speakers it adds the illusion of a stereo sound field even though both are running mono. My number one choice especially for keyboards is the QSC K8.2. It blends wonderfully with the lush Bose mids. It adds the crisp highs missing from the Bose line because Bose doesn't have a dedicated tweeter that goes up to 20Hz. Check out the Nord Keyboard Forum. No, next step up at $250 more at $650 the QSC K8.2 is a huge step up in performance! I am planning on making a video about them one day. For whole band most go with K12.2/KS118 Subs. If it's a money issue a pair of CP8s would probably do 175 people. Never tried it - maybe only 150, maybe 200 max with sub. Really need a good subwoofer to pair. Most bands use a pair of 18 inch subwoofers. CP8s still sound great outdoors but less people. The CP8 has incredible headroom and stays crystal clear at their maximum. QSC has a 6 year warranty! The QSC CP8/Sub2 is a great combination! Really depends on what you need?

IMO, you shouldn’t call a review a “shootout” unless you include an audio comparison. Most of us are capable of reading the spec sheets, and don’t need help in that department. Also, IMO, you shouldn’t include an audio comparison that is just recorded on a smartphone mic. Ideally, you should be using a pair of good small-diaphragm condenser mics plugged into a 24 bit A/D audio interface. I do appreciate the care that you go to when determining/comparing max volume of powered speakers. With all of the inflated power and max SPL specs being posted, you’re really providing a service by providing us some more realistic measurements.
PS - If you do include an audio comparison, can you please find some more representative audio clips that at least include some vocals and real instruments. Even hearing you talk through a vocal mic would be more useful than listening to some techno-pop instrumental clip that has no real acoustic instruments in it.

I do this just for fun and try to help people wade through the numerous similar products available. Giving people specs on one or more speakers saves people a lot of time. I try to give the specs and explain what they mean for the people just starting out. I will take your suggestion about a mic demo-thanks. If you have any audio clips of acoustic instruments, please send. I make on average $15 per video, not exactly a job to retire on.

We toured this summer with a pair of QSC K8s, and though they're compact, by the time you include the mixer, the stands, the mic stands and the board, it took up half of our Honda CRV. So I always appreciate compact and lightweight equipment. That said, the Bose is a specialized piece of gear. Its feature set is awesome: battery power, light weight, Bluetooth and 2 channel mixer. But its not going to cover a large crowd, or a large area. It's grab-and-go for only the smallest gigs. On the other hand, a pair of QSCs will suffice at an outdoor gig with 150 - 200 people. So really, it would be nice to have a pair of QSCs CP8s plus the Bose S1 for house concert type gigs. And the Bose can double as a monitor when its not the main system.

Not to mention a musician, audio engineer, musician that plays all the instruments, sings live performances all the time, and a lot more... Not enough time lol..
Also the extra things with the Bose s1 pro the bells and whistles as you call. YOU'RE PAYING MONEY FOR EXTRA THINGS LOL!! Extra things that can break easily overtime..
You can get the CP8 for $400!! The s1 pro on average cost $600!! You're paying for that battery!! And you're paying for a lesser performance using the battery not as loud not as good!! More dynamic impression and everything in between.
And the CPA outperforms the s1 pro in just about every way!! Including SPL levels. Everything's not about SPL how loud some goes it's sound quality too.. But the CP8 also sounds better..

LIKE THAT SPEAKER THEY MADE A LONG TIME AGO TONS OF SMALL LITTLE SPEAKERS IN AN ARRAY COMPLETELY OVERPRICED... I think that people are all caught up with bells and whistles I think it's more of a gimmick type thing..
I've never been to a show WHERE I DIDN'T PLUG IN SOMETHING LOL!! If you want battery powered you buy a small speaker for the outside at house a little party or whatever like a JBL Xtreme or party speaker..
The right application for the right situation.. Bluetooth doesn't matter because you can buy a battery-powered Bluetooth for under $20 on Amazon and if it breaks you can always buy another.. BATTERIES NEVER LAST BUDDY!! NEVER AT ALL!! Especially if you use them a lot so if you're constantly using a battery WHEN THERE IS ELECTRICITY RIGHT THERE THAT'S KIND OF CREATING A NEW TYPE OF DUMB SERIOUSLY!! Use electricity use the cord you get better performance too. Do you know how much cost to replace that battery if something goes wrong? AND IT WILL!! You're probably looking at $300!! Might as well buy a new speaker..
The way that I look at something like the Bose, you're falling for the BANANA IN THE TAILPIPE!! When are those bells and whistles truly needed in any live situation?
you're paying for them!!! When you really don't need them!! AND BECAUSE IT'S BOSE YOU'RE OVERPAYING!!
Their products are pretty cool. BUT THEY'RE ALWAYS OVERPRICED AND OVERRATED! So many better choices out there like QSC!!
And remember Bose is kind of a fraud!! They love to do their ( JUST USE YOUR EARS AND NEVER GIVE YOU ANY SPECIFICATIONS CRAP!! TOTAL DISINGENUOUS STATEMENTS!! )
You should have both if you pay not much money!!

Beware the Bluetooth on the S1 Pro. This is a known grievance among owners of this unit. I've owned mine for 3 years now and have gigged with it a dozens and dozens of time. I love the speaker a lot. But the Bluetooth implementation is atrocious on any music that has a big bottom end (Funk,DJ, etc). Something in Bose EQ turns the signal to mud. Sounds much better with a cable connect. You may not experience the problem but I have as well as many others. Check out the forum. I don't believe Bose has acknowledged or corrected the problem.

Yes, using the Bose Connect App you can add a second S1pro run wirelessly in true left/right stereo. If you want to run a stereo pair with the QSC you will need a mixer. Any time you add a second speaker about ten feet apart it makes a huge difference in imaging! These can be used as a stereo pair for home use but both definitely require a subwoofer to get full range sound. At low to medium volumes traditional hi-fi speakers will have a better midrange and cleaner high end, but at loud volumes say 90dB plus these will sound more dynamic or live sounding. In other words QSC gets it they put stuff in there for their professional crowd real musicians things people really need.. QSC KNOWS WHAT REALLY MATTERS AND WHAT DOESN'T!! BOSE IS MORE GIMMICKY..
    ------------
As for the backing tracks if you're serious about sound quality you should always be using a cord. You're already using mp3 compression wherever your source is from. Every time you had something wirelessly your degrading the sound quality.
Life situations you want to sound as best as you can.. I always use cords when I can. Even playing the guitar.. yeah I have a wireless system I'm sorry the cords sound better More expression less delay.. But that's another story..

There are trade-offs with dispersion if you understand audio engineering. The question is what's the frequency you response at those dispersions if it's not very flat then it's basically useless.. also the wider dispersion that you have the less efficient the speaker is.. meaning how loud it could go.
90° is a perfect dispersion You call it a beam how is 90° of beam lol we are most of people are in your crowd if you're a DJ or if they're listening they're going to be plenty far back enough to hear everything perfectly. Then of course you have the venue you're doing if the venue has bad acoustical properties and all that stuff sometimes you don't want the dispersion to be all over the place sometimes people don't want to hear and be right in front of the speakers cuz it's too loud.
All depends we are on what you're doing where you're listening from.
Again a win FOR THE QSC CUZ THEY KNOW IT MATTERS AND WHAT DOESN'T!!
I don't consider the Bose speaker a good live speaker it's a good party speaker for your house.. NOT TO MENTION OVERPRICED PARTY SPEAKER!!
