Imagine: your parents or your accountant is going to rob you blind. So even if you earn many millions, someone is going to take it from you and then gaslight you. You will be broke, no longer able to work because you aren't that cute little kid anymore, and your familial relationships are messed up so you don't have that support to fall back on. The sibling rivalry must be intense, too. I wouldn't be so thrilled to be the sibling of a child star. They get all the attention, have all this money, and are the source of all the family upheaval. What a nightmare!!!!! I am so glad I had no talent or interest in acting!
Hollywood has been (for at least a hundred years) and will continue to be a breeding ground for horrible child actor treatment, and shame on any parents who submit their children to it.
this was a great episode- the agreeability between Nick and Matteo really worked. The episode was light, funny, insightful and just looked like they were having fun.

I look forward to this podcast every week, I love you both so much you always make me smile and snort laugh (it's good I live alone-lol). So fun little story, I actually worked at the winery in the 90's where they were filming the movie Parent trap. They filmed for several weeks at the winery so Lindsay and her mom and little sister were always coming into the Chateau to hang out and cool off between takes. Lindsay was very sweet and she truly lit up a room when she smiled . Her sister was very little at the time and was very shy. Deanna was incredibly warm and funny. She had her choice of people to hang out with but she always came to my side of the tasting bar and I would pour her free wine and she would tell me all about her day and the movie process and about her kids. I would always pour hefty glasses of really good wine and we would spend an hour or so just talking about girly stuff and about our lives. She was normal and down to earth. I also had a huge crush on Denis Quaid so when he walked in I almost passed out so I told her all about that experience. It was a fun time. It has been hard to watch Lindsay evolve from that sweet kid into a Hollywood mess I am so glad that she has found a happier and healthier path in life.

Loved Lindsey since '98. Never stopped being a fan, still watch The Parent Trap at least once a year. And, I also lose it every time she sees her mom. Super stoked about the Netflix movies.
Okay as a red headed adolescent In Lindsay’s hay day she did SO MUCH for my self esteem. All the pretty girls of that era like Paris Hilton etc.. were blonde and tan. Two things I absolutely wasn’t. And seeing a red headed girl with pale skin and freckles on TV actually be pretty was incredible for me. It was like oh ok I’m not doomed to be ugly my whole life. And IT WORKED because I grew into a whole badB. Lindsay was the first time I ever saw any of my features as beautiful and literally I will always love her for that.

You two do great work. As fabulous gay men, I feel that it’s vital for you to watch the original (the real) Parent Trap staring Hayley Mills. It’s a campy as one of Nick’s blouses, surprisingly subversively catty, and as funny as Matteo! (Also, Brian Keith was in his prime, Maureen O’Hara sublime, and Joanna Barnes as Vicky was the best wicked nearly-step-mother on film!)
Ohmigosh, Matteo, yasss! I adore Carrie Fisher. Her books Wishful Drinking and then Shockaholic came out at a time when I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, and feeling really horrible about it. Her absolute openness about how it affected her life, and just the way that she just uplifted the whole conversation about mental health with those books. It really destigmatised it for me, and I related so much to her experience of it. Carrie really helped pull me up from a lot of the internal turmoil I was feeling then, and I still quote her all the time.
I’m rocking Mateo’s gay card. “I think she’s a singer, she has Rumors”. Sir, she has two full studio albums.
