    I have hyperacusis and tinnitus. It's a nightmare, and I'm forced to work in environments that are uncomfortably loud (for me). Some people get better over time, but some do not and there is no cure and very little awareness. Most people don't understand that I cannot tolerate loud noises and just think it's an avoidance thing.

    I am wondering if this is in one ear or both? I think if it’s effecting one ear then would it be better to remove the eardrum?It would cause deafness in one ear but at least she could live without out the pain? Would that even help?

      Surgery on an ear can make matters worse as well as better because as long as the auditory system in the brain is working it will convert electrical activity into noise. To make a person deaf on purpose you would have to damage a part of the brain.

    • @BristenBourque
      @BristenBourque Před 6 lety +6

      Hello Violet,
      I'm Anike husband. My story is too long to write out here on CZcams. But I was officially diagnosed with hyperacusis by a research center a few hours from where I live. I did live with this for over 10 years. I still have tinnitus, and it's not always pleasant. I however have very few restrictions in my life anymore as the hyperacusis seems to have been nearly eliminated.
      There is some controversy regarding homeopathic remedies. Many claim this to be nearly a placebo effect. However, despite what many would claim about these remedies as being a total waste of time and money, I have had great success with these remedies over the years. I have seen great results in others (including babies and animals, where the placebo effect would be cancelled).
      The key is to deal with someone knowledgeable. Many use homeopathic remedies, but are either naturopathic doctors (far from being an homeopathic doctor) or homeopathic doctors of questionable educational backgrounds. I understand some have reservations and there are some very bad scenarios out there from people "claiming" to be homeopaths when they are not.
      All I can say is that the homeopathic doctor I saw told me: "give me about two years, I think I can do something for you". Almost like clock work, I noticed two years later (totally had forgotten about the timeline), that the condition got significantly better, to a point that I can live a normal life. I even get to play a bit of music again (huge deal for me). I get to socialize, I was able to have two children and was able to handle crying babies and much more. To a point I was even able to go to an airshow with an F18 fly over my head! That last one wasn't a good idea, as tinnitus acted up for a few days, but I recovered fine.
      For anyone that wants more information, please send me a private message. The treatment plan that worked for me may not work for everyone as the cause is not the same for everyone, our bodies react differently to treatments and sometimes we just need a different approach for each case.
      The point my wife was trying to make though is that THERE IS HOPE. For those that suffer with hyperacusis, don't give up and dare to try different things. If it doesn't work, try something else. Make sure you are followed by professionals and make sure you don't harm yourself making things worse.
      All the best to those out there that still are struggling with this very little known condition.
      Bristen.

      Bristen Bourque
      It’s so rare to find a homeopath that specializes in ear,nose and throat. I think it’s best for homeopathic Doctors to also have a medical degree. You obviously did your research and I appreciate you advising others to do the same.
      I lost a very good friend to Cancer because of a “so called Doctor who was advocating his all Homeopathic methods.This was a young woman who had developed a very non-aggressive Cancer in her breast.The specialist was very good and thoughtful.They felt that with a lumpectomy she would have a very good outcome.That is rare in most breast cancer treatments but they thought that with surgery and then keeping a close eye on the area ...that would be best.
      Unfortunately her husband felt differently and thought he knew best. He found the first so-called Homeopathic breast Cancer specialist who claimed he had a medical degree.He charged them upwards of a million dollars to come to his clinic.....his house.He gave her huge amounts of medications and then told her to drink his special colored water.There were so many insane aspects of this so called treatment. He even did fake medical tests and then he told her she was cured.
      This all happened over 4 years and all her family and friends were under the impression that she had done both the surgery and the homeopathic methods. 5 years later she confirmed that her abusive husband would not allow her to have the surgery. I was stunned because she now was losing weight,nauseated and fainting. Her husband had not found a medical doctor who specialized in homeopathic medicine. He got a complete fraud who had designed a con around my good friends life. She went to the hospital that day and died 10 days later.
      They started to investigate her husband and look for this lethal con artist who murdered her.He was in Australia living off her money.He was convicted and the husband had all this children removed from his care.What the children reported was heartbreaking. I will leave it at that because it’s simply too horrific for me to write.
      I can’t stress how important it is to do your research into any health care provider. I am so glad that you emphasized that in your comment.
      I have tinnitus that is a lot less painful then others have. Mine is very transient and it’s more off an annoyance than painful.
      I have a great ear,nose and throat Specialist that was was incredible helpful. I wonder about this condition and I have so many questions about it? If anything I hope that more awareness is raised.I am glad yours has improved.🦋

      wow, that is a horrible story!!! I have no words... I think this is a huge part of why alternative methods are not incorporated in mainstream medical care as it should - because of dishonest and heartless folks such as the individual you talked about. I hope justice was had - he certainly deserved everything he got. I am excessively blessed to have access to an incredible homeopathic doctor (also has a medical degree) that has been invaluable to my family's health. I will forever be in debt to this man - who cares, doesn't charge millions of dollars and has produced RESULTS. Thank you for sharing your story - important for people to be aware of such terrible people :(

      @nuggetpie8711 Před rokem +1

      @@biancadaniel7190 I was actually managing it fine because my sensitivity to sound wasn’t that bad. But recently, my sensitivity increased and my TTTS started getting triggered by more insignificant sounds, notably my own speaking voice, which has been the most annoying part of this. My neurologist wanted me to try a more conservative treatment first, so he put me on Magnesium, B vitamins, and told me to try laser therapy, none of which did anything. At this point, I’m very hesitant of going back, because the obvious next step would be to try medication. I know muscle relaxants and anti-convulsants are the type of drugs that people usually get prescribed. From what I’ve heard, they can work, but once you stop taking them, the TTTS returns, sometimes with side effects as well. If I knew for a fact that medication would get rid of my TTTS once and for all, I’d definitely go that path, but personally, I don’t think I’m willing to risk getting possibly new health issues and/or complications of my current ones just for a temporary relief. Surgery is also an option to keep in mind. Of course, it’s not a risk-free option either since it consists of cutting the tensor tympani and/or stapedius muscle tendons, which can sometimes result in severe hyperacusis, but when it goes successfully, and for a lot of people it has, the spasms go away completely and forever. Anyway, take this all with a grain of salt. I’m no doctor, I’m just someone who has done some research on the condition they have, and those are just my conclusions from that research. How bad is your sensitivity, by the way? Does your TTTS get triggered only by the more annoying sounds like keys jingling or kitchenware, or also by the more normal sounds like your own speaking voice, other people talking, etc.? And by any chance, do you happen to also have TMJ issues as well? Because I kind of do, although pretty mild, and that was mentioned to me as a possible connection. I’m sorry for the super long reply. I really hope your doctor will be able to give you some answers and help you!
