I am looking to build ambient backing like this, let them evolve or loop, and play distinct once-off melodic lead over the top. This is easily possible with the OM?

Very nicely done. I already have one of these, but was considering a Strymon BigSky . . . however, this demo may have convinced me to stay with the Ocean Machine.
Thank you 🙏 I love Bigsky but it has no looper and delay, you can't use it as a stand alone pedal like the Ocean Machine
I have a pedal like that. It has some really cool features: the ability to change the position of the effects on the fly, a looper that saves the recorded loop when you switch presets. I found it to be great as a dual delay pedal. But the reverb quality leaves a lot to be desired. I really want to saw off some of the reverb to make the pedal lighter and smaller.
Ocean Machine has some good quality reverb modes, it's a good value for money for my taste
I kinda agree! The Ocean Machine is a great dual delay pedal but the reverb section is too basic as far as options go as it doesn't even have a pre-delay parameter or a low cut / hi cut setting... just tone.
I just removed the thumb up to make this video nice again. I will give it back when you get more than 69 likes.
