For over 16 years, WDW News Today has been your go-to for all things Disney - news, podcasts, radio, and video. We've had a blast sharing our love for Disney, and it's all thanks to our dedicated audience that we're now the best website for Disney Parks News worldwide.
I honestly feel like Fantasy Springs is a new landmark, cultural shift in Disney theme parks. That sounds a bit crazy and over the top, but this is not just a new attraction opening, and it's not even a new land. It's a complete, immerse new storytelling format, including its own themed hotel. We haven't seen anything like this in years (decades even) and the amount of excitement that Fantasy Springs has drawn is like nothing else. I know there are a lot of "exclusivity" and wait times (like Tron coming to the U.S.) but those blurry, blobby concept drawings of Disneyland Forward look VERY much like Fantasy Springs. If the exclusivity is 5 years, it will definitely be more than 5 years before this comes to pass, so don't count out a U.S. version. I certainly am hopeful. The moment they started throwing out names like Peter Pan and Rapunzel for DL forward, it makes perfect sense to clone something you already have over starting from scratch.
Meh. At the end of the day, they're all just dark rides retelling the movie stories. And it looks on par with New Fantasyland to me. Nothing groundbreaking or paradigm shifting. Just the next step in what Disneys done for decades. It all just looks amazing. That's fact. They did a great job. đ
Except that at the end of the day, people are less and less willing to come to a ride that's already been made at another park... even if it's the only version they will ever get to experience themselves... why do you think there was such a lack luster thing around Tron's Florida opening? It's not that great a concept AND it's already been done AND it's in a nook behind another experience not too far off from it with space mountain... poor planning on Disney's part there... could have had a whole new ride no one had ever experience, instead Disney hit CTRL+C then CTRL+V.
I personally have to say while I'm definitely impressed by the technology and the way they brought the level of theming to life, I can't help but think that if this is the direction even Tokyo is going in than what even does regular Disney have to compete with, because in reality the Frozen ride is an upgraded version of an existing attraction, Tangled is a short boat ride with several iconic but also calm scenes from the movie without much storyline going on except for it being about Rapunzel and a Lantern Festival, and then a weirdly parallel version of Peter Pans Flight with modern technology while the original version sits just a few miles away at Tokyo Disneyland. Again, the theming and level of detaill is impressive but the choices made in the end for what was ultimately Disneys most highly themed immersive original theme park, leaves this to be a bit of an unfortunate corner that modern day economics has driven Tokyo DisneySea into where its also mostly driven on IP and money making with whats familiar for modern day audiendes
in that sense its defo a cultural shift, but idk personally if i think its for the better..
@minos468 It's kinda obvious. They needed to add more capital D Disney to the park.
Looking forward to seeing your vlogs on Fantasy Springs.
That gift-shop is GORGEOUS.
That gift shop looks unbelievable! I could spend hours in there.
I am excited for Disneyland forward project with new rides
Was going to Tokyo in Nov. 2024, but with the locals being excited, I think I'll wait till April 25. I don't want to watch toooo much to spoil it, but want to watch a little to hear tip and tricks. It's a fine line. They might allow filming so I don't watch the rides if that makes sense. Will be watching Stage 89 streamed soon. Thx Tom
I'm excited for the Fantasy Springs is an new landmark at Disney Parks.
Japan always has the best attraction
i would really like them to focus on clean up and maintenance. I go for the theme, beauty and emersion. The new lands and rides are great but not why I go multiple times.
Six flags fell into that trap. They kept spending millions on coasters every year while going cheap on maintenanceâŠthey arenât doing well.
I also think they could build and update smaller attractions to increase capacity quickly before building more 100 million dollar attractions.
Agreed. Disney is comparable to a government that doesn't fix roads, but spends millions on pet projects to win the voter's favor. Too bad Iger got back in and not someone more financially-minded. This administration spends to earn favor, but they will be damned if they'll spend to clean, repair and pay livable wages.
@@VideoGamePhilosopher Six flags got addicted to cheap passholders and then were trapped into a situation where they couldn't raise prices but also couldn't afford to invest to make those passes worth charging more either. Hopefully they are starting to break this cycle.
That and update current attractions (like whinny the Pooh)
The costumes in Fantasy Springs look very nice!
Iâd love to see them use the technology that they used for Pirates in Shanghai Disneyland!
Weâre saving for the overseas trip to Tokyo and maybe Hong Kong
Fantasy Springs looks amazing. Looking forward to the coverage of the opening of this next month!
I'm watching this and thinking "Wow"
Yoohoo bread? Makes me want chocolate milk real bad.
Do y'all have a date to visit/upload videos? If so, please share because I will be eagerly awaiting the full reveal of the land!!
I canât wait to be there on June 25th!! So excited!!
Fantasy Springs just looks amazing
This all looks amazing, but it will be so much better with, a Tom awed snark overlay, on it's opening.
The Peter Pan ride is all screens wasnât that what everyone hated about Runaway? I feel like if they built that anywhere else everyone would be upset but since itâs Tokyo itâs fine lol
Iâm not a fan of it, but have to ride in order to judge it
The ride is completely in 3D, and its theming is far beyond what Disney has done with Runaway Railway. The queue for the ride, alone, is above and beyond what Runaway Railway offers
I'm so excited on FS. I look at videos, posts, analysis every day to get more details and easter egg.
I'm so happy that their Frozen Journey is more relax than the one in Hong Kong.
I'm also excited to ride Peter Pan. There's not many 3D simulators in Asia parks. The only two I went on were spiderman and transformer. I know the us parks have a lot of that but I don't think the targets of FS are US guests.
Renovating a food court in July? Interesting.
So glad that the food court at the All Star Movies resort is getting a referb! I'm staying there for a night before a cruise in September, and after doing so last year I have to say it was not impressive and it definitely was not something I was wanting to experience if I were going to be at the resort for a week.
Fantasy Springs and Epic Universe are putting Tiana's Bayou Adventure to shame!
They approved new theme parks, but rejected a new hotel? Interesting.
I just booked a room at the Fantasy Springs hotel (ridiculously hard to get) for my trip in September. I'm super excited! But it's going to be hard avoiding videos, clips, and pics of the 4 new attractions. I want to be surprised when I ride them.
They sure know how to do things over there at OLC.
If Disney do build a 3rd park in Anaheim theyâre going to need to do something thatâs more than simply IP and I honestly donât know if they have it in them.
As I see all the ornate and highly detailed theming in everything at Fantasy Springs- from walls to grounds to attractions and restaurants to cast costuming- I canât help but contrast it to the stark detheming of WDW stores (world of Disney) and hotels (boardwalk inn) and sparsely themed attractions and uninteresting cast costuming. So sad.
To me the Peter Pan ride looks more like an individual-sized Back to the Future/Simpsons ride, but maybe thatâs just the fact that it looks like a vehicle fully surrounded by a bubble screen and I canât see any actual room for movement in those pictures.
Aloha DWD...I was at Disneyland during that first year after Covid once or twice a year since. I am going there again during this bit of a lul in the attendencnce. I was going to wait for Fantasmic but it will be a Zoo ..we will see...if ok..I can go again!
Thanks guys for all your work. Aloha
Make 2 for South America ( Portuguese and Spanish ), and 2 in Northern and Southern parts of USA.
WESTCOT!
Love the thumbnail lol
By the time I'm an old man, disney will probably just flat out own all of anaheim
I knew Tokyo was next level, but now I KNOW its way more than that. That is like going into the movies. I'm just gonna' have to try that.
I believe that the lion's share of Disney's investment in their Anaheim Resort over the next decade will be focused on the Eastern Gateway Project. Until they relocate parking and bus drop-off, Disney has nowhere to build expansions. I believe we are a very long way away from any major expansions to the Disneyland Resort, simply because of the infrastructure that must be relocated and replaced to facilitate such a larce-scale transformation. However, it is good to hear that the first crucial steps have been taken to begin making this a reality. đ
8.3 billion in a quarter. They make scrooge mcduck money from the parks. They can and should make major investments to add capacity.
Tom if Disney World was to build a brand new 5th gate park I would love it to be Pixar themed.
It probably will be a third park at Disneyland, as I can't imagine them trying to answer Epic with anything less. I think it's going to come too late, though.
That said, it's good for everyone in the long run; Disney has been able to coast for too long, and it's long overdue for someone to light a fire under them and make them cough up something more than repeats and reskins. Competition breeds innovation.
The Fantasy Springs attractions are too reliant on screens to tell the story instead of the screens enhancing the story.
I really want to go to tokyo disney. Could you recommend a good travel agent? I've only been to WDW and Disneyland in California.
Canât wait for demo at Disneyland they need to begin building that huge parking structure across harbor to free up the new park space. Woohooooo
Tom's Tokyo vloga are about to be incredible đż
Zootopia at Disneyland đ
WDW News, the Oriental Land Company know how to build attractions and lands without compromise. But if the rumours are true Disney's "Blue Sky" plan's for the new attractions at "Animal Kingdom" have already had large budget cuts to the original plan's. Disney don't like to spend to much money on their American Parks. Cheers, Chris Perry.
When are there ever not big budget cuts at Disney? Is it really that hard for the top executives to "take one for the team" and sacrifice for park attractions?
Why does fantasy springs map look like a key blade?
Pilot Rex is back. #noice
OK so do they serve Star Kist Tuna sandwiches in their Pirate ship??? The one I remember eating lunch at as a kid, did. There was even a Welchs Grape Juice stand..which was awesome, very poular at the time.
Nope. Itâs actually made of Arielâs sisters and cousins.
Sick but funnyâ@@timschultz2806
I bet D23 August actually will talk about the Disneyland expansion. Disney is going to be releasing A LOT of news for expansion plans across all parks leading up to Universal completing Epic Universe.
What does anywhere but Orlando have to do with Epic Universe?
Disappointed Tom didnât lay into Disney to do more stuff like FS for domestic parks lol
I havenât seen it for myself yet, so letâs hold the rant for the review
1:21 am? What is this release time?
Well if the release time is so weird then why are you up at 1:21 am?
@@themeparkcheetah what does their obscure release time have to do with me? you are like literal projecting
@@bingbong7633 well if you are up at that time why does it bother you
@@themeparkcheetah because its not their normal release time. why does it bother you that I find it odd. you are arguing about the dumbest thing
probably bc it takes time to make a script, record, edit and post a video, thereâs a lot to discuss
They paid to take the city council to Japan!?!? That seems very shady.
I'm really surprised that they didn't make one of the Fantasy Springs attractions a coaster, as that park is majorly lacking a decent coaster.
Fantasy Springs is more targeted towards younger guests at DisneySea, particularly because of the lack of more family-oriented attractions at that park (Flying Carpets was quickly dropped into the Arabian Coast port to increase capacity for little ones, besides what Mermaid Lagoon already offered). Asian guests also tend to not stomach thrill as much as western park-goers, as evidenced by the tamer ride cycle of Tower of Terror there, so I'm sure OLC and Imagineering took a look at the demographic and thought investment would be better spent in slower experiences.
Not to mention these rides definitely look like they have a higher capacity. They neeeeed rides with the ability to cycle guests through. Agree that their coaster offerings are lackluster though. We were bummed at how tame the ToT ride was when we rode, but the theming made up for it.
Cant tell if pan is more like spiderman or more like back to the future. Perhaps everyone is just pushed up into the same screen? Will need to see more photos and videos
Is that woman in the painting at 30:47 supposed to be the duchess who built the Fantasy Springs Hotel?
Tom its almost 10:30 pls
Anyone else catch the jungle cruise reference with the crab? đ
The big question is when will this come state side? It looks great and I would be willing to go there an participate but I'm 70 years old and they won't have anything here for 20 years.
I like the olaf statue and the ice palace and that there is going to be a new frozen ride soon.
When is it coming again?.
Tom still on Tokyo time
I'm just curious, is this 1.9 billion part of that 10billion dollar commitment they say they are going to invest in parks over the next 10 years? I would think as a company they would want to invest more i the WDW parks as I believe I read somewhere that they bring in the most revenue??
On another topic- How is it to travel to DL Tokyo without speaking the language?
Fantasy Springs looks good and all, but tbh the more I saw the more I went 'this all kind of looks very similar'. Lots of grass, wooded areas and wooden buildings with exaggerated features.
TOM!!!
Hopefully the Disneyland Forward project can help bring the Country Bears back to the Disneyland Resort.
Why do you keep shifting your glance left and right when you're supposed to be looking at the camera and talking to the audience?
Where are your new Japan vlogs at, Tom ?
Iâm working on them, many to come
@@WDWNT Can't wait to watch them
Fantasy springs looks so awesome but it looks like it's only kiddie rides and nothing else.
Thatâs a lie, the parks are always packed and saying that it will be âless packedâ invites more people. You could get lucky ONE day but the parks are NEVER not crowded
This is an excellent first step forward but I don't really care cause this is all decades off and we will never get anything as good and as quality as the Asian Parks.
So galaxies edge and guardians arenât high quality?
Lol. You're not a serious person.
@@ethanshackleton brother you are joking right
@@imtired1696these people are all over this comment section. Doom and gloom on every video
If unionizing results in them receiving the same benefits that employees at Disney World and other types of Disneyland employees receive thatâs terrific. Hopefully the union dues wonât result in them taking home less pay than they are now.
It certainly sounds like this is something that was long overdue from the point of fairness with other employees.
Not on topic but ITS TIME TO RETURN TO THE CLASSIC CASTLE. Rose gold needs to go
Is Tom back from Tokyo already?
I am proof of loving Disney not going to parks. We just spent 3 nights at a friends home in Davenport had dining reservations at grand Floridian to watch fireworks and at beaches and cream to watch Epcot fireworks. We wound up 1 night at pop last minute due to loud neighbors at her home. We enjoyed a lot of resort hopping but no parks. You can do Disney nearly free or cheap if you need a fix
A least someone gets it right!
not decades
Havenât seen KOTPOTA but since itâs a Disney movie I bet they will have man on monkey love. I hope not though!
Why does Asia get all the cool stuff? I want a Tangled ride at WDW, god damnit!
Because TDR is an independent company. They invest more on their parks than the Disney on their own parks.
Nobody needs another Pandora.
âïžđâŻïžđ€
âEasing back into their regular livesâ âŠ.its been like 3 years, who is still readjusting from Covid? The only thing weâre adjusting to is this dumpster fire economy
I hope those leather belts are vegan
Disney announces elaborate attractions then builds the cheapest thing possible.
Remember when WDW cared about immersing you? I am so jealous of SEA. Maybe if we all pitch in $2 âcashâ we can convince JOE, TONY and BOB to come back and imagine the crap out of the âFlorida projectâ.
DL Forward needs to clone Disney Sea not coasters. Just tighter with less Galaxy Edge-like dead space that I see there.
Too bad its just a screen ride sitting in a box. Boo.
Give us news, not merchandise
Disney springs looks amazing but it also seems to follow a current trend with Disney of focusing on boat rides - avatar Disneyland - boat, Paris studios frozen and rumoured lion king - boat, tiana - rethemed - boats, frozen Hong Kong - boat, Disney sea Rapunzelâs and frozen - boat. Iâll be sure to put boat rides on my D23 bingo multiplier
Pink flowers? cherry blossoms? It looks really nice, but seems to be more food and gift buildings than the actual reason for having a park?
Peter Pan looks very disappointing
My goodness, there's so much IP in the new proposal. Avatar, Black Panther, Tron, Zootopia??? None of those brands have lasting staying power.
Or perhaps the did in visitation is because the US parks are crap compared to the international parks. No new content and they canât even keep their properties clean without you having a rant to get them off their asses.
