Very nice portrait 🎨🖌️
Thank you so much 😀
Your content is so helpful, thank you! As a newcomer to oil painting, I wonder if you always varnish your paintings as the final step? Thank you! ❤
I do a final varnish with Gamvar after about a two month drying period. If the painting has to go sooner, I coat it with ReTouch Varnish.
If the painting is a commission, and the client is living close by, you may offer to give it a final varnish after 6 months to a year if more thickly painted. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
I suggest to just study the Rococo portraits, if you use a projector to transfer a photograph to the canvas it will look wooden no matter what you do - you have to sculpt the person with your brush strokes as you observe them and find the nuances that create the perfect composite of reality - a photograph gives one harsh slice and if you just paint by numbers filling in the light and shadow you will only be average unless you drop the training wheels of the projector and sit with the client - I hope this helps
Awesome advice. I’ve never used a projector. I do you photography but often work from life… when possible. It’s hard to get commissioned subjects to find the time to sit. Maybe if they better understood the process. 🎨
Shelly has never used a projector, she does not need or ever used "training wheels"
