You literally fly out of your seat on the first hill going down.. this is one of my fav rides there !
i love camden park! my first real amusement park i ever went too, the big dipper never feels safe lol, actually sitting at a picnic area behind the rollar coaster, you can watch the wood bend waaaay too much, but i guess thats the thrill of the ride.
I love how treacherous this ride is. That makes it so much more fun! Being one of the few things to do in West Virginia, Camden Park is super fun.
It seriously looks like its going to break
i used to go there in the 70s...the wheels would lift off the tracks and then slam back down and the wood would shift on the sides... Great fun
It’s over 90 yrs old what do u expect
I mean, it’s the best, and only, theme park in our tri-state. I live 10 minutes away from Huntington, and it’s literally the best you’ll get. Just expect that this is West Virginia, and nothing’s perfect.
Trust me if it would have broken it would have broken already. Im not sure if its gonna be open in 2020 though when they open up. Its up to my boss wether or not grounds takes it down🤷🏻♂️
Why?
Oh my gosh! I used to ride this thing all the time with my cousins. My grandma lives right near Camden Park!
I live 15 minutes away from Camden park
My Grandma took me and my Brother to Camden Park in the Sixties.. God Bless her we would.walk her around the park til we could walk no futher! Loved driving the cars!Craig Hazelett Marion Ohio
@@craigh7172 That's so sweet! I'm glad you have great memories there also :)
Thank You!
Do you still live near Huntington?
This brings back so many memories. I haven’t been to Camden park in almost 20 years. I rode this coaster for the first time 40 years ago. This ride started my love for Roller Coasters.
The only thrilling thing about going to Camden park is not knowing whether you'll leave alive or not😂
Lauren Gearheart true 😂
Damn that's true. I hit my head on the rattler. I'd rather spend a day here than a weekend at kings island. Mostly because I live an hour away in Charleston
@@leebailey6181 what is wrong with you
@@asmrpretend6249 what?
@@leebailey6181 you hit your head so hard you forgot that camden park is trash and kings island is ten times better
i've lived in WV for twelve years and i never knew we had any theme parks/roller coasters in the state
i thought people were too busy shooting stuff or something
The kids at the end saying, "I wanna ride it again!" Reminds me of being a young kid and just riding this coaster all day. This was my first amusement park. I was 5 or 6 my first time. The Big Dipper seemed so huge back then. My kids still love going to Camden Park.
I rode it this summer and it is a classic, however, I was scared the cars were going to fall apart before we made it back to the station. Whole lot of shakin' going on!
Yes
Well it won't win any speed records, but vintage coaster..check..creaky wooden..double check..and that lift hill..Well it's a slope really.
I'd ride it, just for the hipster value.
gallimead Yeah It was slow in the video because there were children on it, but most of the time especially at night it goes much faster. When they had the very last seat open (they don't let you sit there anymore) I ended up hitting the person in front of me with my head and nearly flew out.
gallimead i went there its WAYYYY Faster
I have rode this and the Haunted House pretty much every summer give or take a few between kids for 36 years. I love taking my boys (9 & 11) every year to spooktacular on Halloween there. It's so fun. I have rode so many different roller coasters over the years but there is just something about this one that is so fun. The whole Park is nostalgic and awesome. I've watched rides come and go and the park change with a fire taking out the skating rink to a couple years ago one took out the bumper cars. (Sad) I will continue to go and take my kids and hope they one day get to feel the nostalgia of riding the Big Dipper and Haunted House with their kids.
I was fortunate to ride this a few years ago and it was awesome. Off the ride, it's fun to watch the supports shake when the train passes by! It looks like it's about to fall down, which just adds to the fun!
Sawbones is a show about medical history, and nothing the hosts say should be taken as medical advice or opinion. It's for fun. Can't you just have fun for an hour and not try to diagnose your mystery boil? We think you've earned it. Just sit back, relax and enjoy a moment of distraction from that weird growth. You're worth it.
This was my ride back in the day. When I was 8, the thunderbolt was still there.. The tilt-a-whirl was still by the log flume and the enterprise still stood by the cafeteria. I was on the Hot Cat and a lady had a violent seizure 2 cars ahead. I lived like 2 hours away from CP and my parents always brought me here every couple of weekends during summer, soooooo many memories.
Don Smith I wish I could have visited Camden Park back in the days. I'm fourteen and live in Springfield, Missouri so my closest amusement park is Silver Dollar City which is unfortunate. I wish I lived near an amusement park where my parents could just drop me and my friends off at the front gate and pick us up later. Can't really do that at S.D.C
Thunderbolt was the Arrow Dynamics Shuttle Loop Coaster that used to be at Kings Island. Am I right?
I live in West Virginia that's awesome you guy came over here
This reminds me of the Roller Coaster in Ocean View Virginia I remember everytime I road it I swore that thing was going to fall apart yet when the blew it up for that movie it took them awhile it did NOT want to come down......I really miss that place now a very distant memory
Many many good memories were made at Camden Park when I was a kid, I loved the Pronto Pups...which are corn dogs made with pancake batter instead of typical corn dog batter.
First coaster I ever rode 😀 good memories here as a kid.~
The old wooden roller coasters are still the best! I love it :) Thanks for the video
First roller coaster I ever rode! Always a classic!
Same 1st one ever
When Go Pro releases 4K resolution camera, these Theme Park Review videos are going to be mind blowing!
I used to go to Camden Park as a child, living in Kentucky. Is this the same wooden roller coaster I rode then?
Yes
I like to see that there was at least one roller coaster you got to visit here in west virginia even though it is biggest and the park sucks its nice to see you here
Ahhh the millions of rides on this thing since I was a little kid. That is one memory from my childhood I will always hold tight to.
I rode this ride all the time when I was a kid. So fun!
This was my first roller coaster! I loved it when I was young. Kinda surprised its still standing though!
IVE BEEN OM THIS RIDE AND ITS AWESOME
This ride always flings you out of your seat seemingly no matter what you weigh and feels like it's going to break apart at any moment. Good coaster though, certainly adds to the thrill.
I miss going to Camden park and riding this its been forever since i went there and i live so close to it, ever since i been to cedar point, i rather go to cedar point than i would camden park but this is a great pov of the Big Dipper good job Theme Park Review
This is awesome !!!
Wish I would have known you was going to be there I'd love to ride a rollercoaster with you. I've been watching you for years. Your legendary
Rode this six times when I last went. If you ride in the back, you will go flying. I learned from experience.
The very back cart isn’t available i dont think anymore. I was off shift and the dude told me on my day off that it was shut off so🤷🏻♂️
That looks super fun!
This is the manly man test part 2. You guys have passed it.
Great old NAD coaster! Nice small park with an incredible friendly staff
They have built over 400 roller coasters, which is kind of hard to believe.
Wow☺️ thanks! I actually work there during the seasons when its open! I try to be friendly as i can!
Out of all the places in the world that you've been, you choose to come to my local amusement park.Thank you, but you could've chosen a better park. lol
I'm 8 yrs late seeing this! Really enjoyed your video!
My first ever roller coaster!
I road on it today and i loved it.
For my fourth grade field trip me and my best friend rode this ride it was terrifying but I was also a really good experience I really loved it
I straight away thought of RCT 1.
This is my favorite coaster every time I went I rode it
Grew up in Ashland, Ky. We used to go to Camden park every holiday for the fireworks.
Technically my "home park" but kings island is only a few hours from here. This thing was my childhood but the place is very lackluster. Can't beat the classics tho
Johnathan Edwards my home park is Kings island but I’m gong here this summer can’t wait!!
Love those NAD cars
reminds me of the Roller Coaster at Blackpool with the tunnel at the end
Here's an interesting fact about Camden Park! When King's Island was still owned by Paramount (now owned by Cedar Fair), they attempted to buy Camden Park. The owners of Camden wanted to keep it a family owned park and keep it small (I'm assuming).
jacobbob09 they should of let kings island own it
Yeah , the family who owns it for the most part is very nice! I work there on season! Its more of a family park!
I live in WV about 35 minutes from Huntington we used to go every summer. And Halloween for their Spooktackular. Lord that park is so scary old and the ride are falling apart. That's one sketchy roller coaster. And The Whip ride scares me even more. It's honestly on it's last leg. I'm so shocked you came all the way to a local West Virginia Park. I really wish WV had more. But that's the park I've grown up on.
That's my favorite ride I ride it every time I go to Camden park😀
you should try Falken at Fårup Sommerland in Denmark its really great fun!
This looks sick to ride and fun
I went here in June rode this twice
Hey theme pack preview! I'm a subscriber, and I *love* your video's!!!!
Pls reply
xxx
Are you guys coming up through Fairmont, WV anytime soon? ;)
Not kidding I sat on the back of this and when on a drop I was standing up, I almost fell off of it. It seems they removed the back seat in this video though. It was a long time ago.
Yeah no one uses the back seat anymore honestly! I rode it twice off shift (i work there) and they didnt let anyone sit in the back cart!
I'm going tomorrow with my bff,my mom,her mom,her aunt,and her 2 cousins!IM SO EXITED!!!
I live in that state I went to Camden park today actually.
my class went to Camden park and I had a. blast XD XD
Oh, the NAD trains!
you're awesome
Nice
The more thrilling counterpart to Little Dipper.
First time I went on this I flew completely out of my seat, nearly fell out. Terrifying ride, but was still my first ever roller coaster.
It was the sound.
How do you always get in the front?
This ride is so babyish
I feel like this is a good first big coaster for kids
I bet you their hips, butt and thighs were in pain after riding this lol.
I rode this one and it was so much fun we were sitting in the front and when we went down the drop I was sitting down and my butt bounced up
how many 'big dippers' and 'giant dippers' are there? we have one here in san diego as well. i guess they are all kinda similar - but how many are there really?
There's one here in Santa Cruz CA at the Santa Cruz beach boardwalk
One too many.
Yes
Koasterking are u in the UK or US?
UK.
+ThemeParkReview do you know when this was made?
I hope this is rideable if Fallout 76... imagine enemy snipers on the track and running them over with the car
Perfect begginer coaster.
I rode it today
This USED to be my favorite ride, I rode it today and the entire ride shifts around and the carts tilt, I do not advise you to ride it. This ride is GOING to kill someone soon. They never do maintenance or test the carts.
One of the turns almost gave out so they just attached more wood to it, I flew out of my seat as well as a 200-pound man.
Now if you have a time machine and can go back at least 10 years then sure ride all you want!
+Krystal Star (Krystal Covers) Please file a complaint!! It could save lives! They may not be aware of what is going on, and while it is not your job to do theirs, it is for the well being of others.
+RabbitGirl it's accually not that bad ... They rebuilt it three years ago
Krystal Star YOU'RE A GP
I️ LOVE coasters, and they are only as safe as the amusement facility’s attention and constant maintenance, especially the wooden coasters
That’s totally normal to lift out of your seat on the drop. It happened to me too.
Why aren't there break noises on the first lift?
Dumb question, but this big dipper wouldn't have happened to be the same model of rollercoaster as the big dipper in the (now abandoned) Geauga Lake/Six Flags would it? They look the same but I can't be for sure.
The one at Geauga Lake was designed by John Miller in the teens or early 1920s. It was sort of a long out-and-back layout with a lot of low rounded hills in the middle. It was a little like Zippin Pippin, but less wild. This one was by National Amusement Devices and dates from the 1950s, with a figure eight layout. Sorry, only the names are the same.
It's now called Ig Dipper
Savage Gamer ikr😂😂 it's been a joke every time we go there😂😂
Yep
I went on a other ride called the giant dipper to
Omg i saw u there xD
It's been here since my grandma was a kid
wow theres an ORIGINAL paratrooper? thats one old school ppark!
The train makes it look like the coaster has bumps in it
So the unique aspect of the Big Dipper is that the operator must manually brake the train as it traverses the track. No computer or electronic aided systems here. Just manual levers :D
Have you gone on Batman the ride Backwards yet?
The first rollercoaster of this channel where i am not afraid to go into.... :,(
I rode the Big Dipper 8 times in a row once
It's a safe and fun coaster to initiate young riders before they go on to the hardcore coasters.
Our bar came open on the big dip…it's not that safe
KALEB DA KIDD Holy crap! I hope they did something about it!
as your going up the tracks look really wide holy crap.
no thankyou lol.
i always refuse to ride this because i’m afraid i’m gonna die. this thing is SOOO old i feel like it could break at any given moment😂
I love this park but when you touch the wood at the side it wobbles
Every time i ride this at the dip i always fly outta my seat and it gets annoying
Lemme tell ya, this ride scared me as a child of 8 and it still scares me at an adult of 22.
But it’s so fun 😂😂
It would scare me to death at 71
I rode this and it wasn’t scary, and if you rode the back, it would fly up in the air. it was fun though
You know this is old when you see that the BullsEye is still there.
coaster studios brought me
omg the camera lense makes it look like the wood is bending
TheObnoxiousPuffin that’s not the camera it actually bends
TheObnoxiousPuffin I’ve ridden it
geez, how old is this thing?!
wow.
thanks
it is over 100 years old and it got stuck 2 times this year
It's only 60 years old as of 2018. 60 is still pretty old though.
Camden park is fun my cousin went on the ride and she said 3 of the boards broke the breaks failed so.. She went twice 0.0
