I watched this with my mom for the first time. After this line, I immediately looked at my mom in disbelief. She was CACKLING. The funniest parts of the series are when people hate on Cecily Strong when she’s literally written to be the most normal woman on the planet.
The Ben Vereen energy Tituss has here is brilliant. He looks and sounds stunning. He's chewing the scenery but at the same time it seems effortless. Sassy, seductive, campy, and sinister. Perfect. It made me nostalgic as hell for when I was in Pippin about a decade ago.

I'm not sure what kind of Schmega-musical land will be created, but I don't know if they can combine '80s and '90s, as the mid '90s to 2000s moved away from that pretty drastically, and back to smaller ensemble-focused pieces about culture, relationships and families (Rent, Passion, Avenue Q, Hedwig), a tradition that lasted a long time (Next to Normal, Fun Home, Band's Visit, Spring Awakening). I also think season 3 might have to do with whatever issue Josh and Melissa face next--likely the difficulties of parenthood. For that I'd definitely like to see a parody of Avenue Q, Spring Awakening, and Matilda...but it's probably too soon to go back only a decade or so! I'm also hoping they will parody all the musicals based on animated Disney movies--or perhaps theatrical musicals based on non-musical movies in general, which is also a whole thing...
I think season 3 or 4 will deal with magic of some kind there were a lot of popular fantasy musicals, like wicked (i expect that to be season 4) plus it could help with the lore of whatever schmigadoon actually is like did the leprechaun curse the town or what is the cause of it, plus if they do get a kid it can show them lost imagination that a lot of adults have. i just think it would be interesting i dont know what season 3 might be but 90s and 2000s musicals also started bringing in disney musicals like beauty and the beast, lion king, little mermaid, and aladdin i grew up in that time and i remember my parents taking me to those. I know season 3 will still be dark/realistic cause of phantom of the opera, les mis, cats, and little shop of horrors, but i have a feeling if we get a season 4 it will be more fanciful.
My dream season after this is Into the Woods + Wicked and the main theme is parenting their teenage daughter, since that's what Into the Woods is all about

What do you think? We'll be going to 90s and 2000s musicals (bringing a bit more rock to the soundtrack a la Rent and Spring Awakening though 200s would also include Wicked and Hairspray) or we'll be going back to the 20s and 30s (though those are a bit too much like the 40s and 50s musicals though with Fred Astaire instead of Gene Kelly and it kind of goes against their method of going forward in time rather than backwards - unless they're going for the 'complete opposite' line of thinking). Of course the one 70s musical they didn't touch was 'Grease' which of course is has a 70s version of 50s music so it sort of belongs to both genres of musicals we've seen so far!
I'm really hoping for a third season too. It'd be a waste not to. Following the pattern, they'd move on to 80s and 90s musicals. Ariana was only available for three days of filming. That's why she doesn't have as big a role this season. But she has a phenomenal Dreamgirls-esque number in episode 6, where she brings the house down.

That's literally the premise of the show? Josh and Melissa get stuck in a musical.
