    Good Explanation, I have no Tick, But I replaced the Oil Cooler Filter Housing with the Aluminum one only because I had a Bad oil pressure sensor.While everything was apart I changed the plugs and coils since I had 140K on them. I also added a Baxter oil filter adapter to run a spin on filter, this keeps oil in the filter, the stock cartridge one drains back within 20-30 minutes and you get the dry start rattling which may cause premature rocker failure. On my 2015 Grand Cherokee if you use the Mobil 1 M1-212A filter it clears the Engine Cover and has the correct flow and bypass PSI required for this engine. Definitely a good upgrade if you’re keeping your Vehicle for a long time and Can’t afford 60-80k for a new one.

    Just wanted to give you a massive shoutout mate, I decided to tackle this job myself after a few watches of your video! I had the issue on the other side so was a bit easier for me as I didn't have to fiddle with that pcv valve. After a few hours of cursing and some sunburn I managed to get it all fixed! Had a small issue afterwards as I didn't realise the white gasket had fallen out behind the thottle body but all fixed now and purring like a kitten! If you ever holiday in Australia ill have to buy you a few beers! Cheers!

    I just discovered mine making a similar noise but the ticking is at least twice as fast as yours at idle. Not sure what is is but this can’t be good. Also the noise goes a way for a minute or so then comes back for a minute or two.

    Great info on this issue. I just recently noticed the tick on my 2014 GC. I'm assuming that since it's apart, the valve cover and intake manifold gaskets should be replaced?
    Thanks.

    • @Moretimethanmoney
      @Moretimethanmoney  Před 2 měsíci

      Yes. Since you're taking it apart it's a good idea to replace the gaskets. I actually didn't and I've been chasing oil leaks and having to go in and replace the gaskets. Wish I had done it when I had everything taken apart the first time.

    Thank you for sharing this video! I am hoping to be able to take care of this issue myself if I can. I am not finding the video associated with the link about how to remove the air intake tube and cover. Has that been removed or am I missing it completely? I am a novice and not well versed in mechanics, but I think with time I can do it. If there are any other videos I am missing for removal of certain tubes/parts for this repair, please direct me to those too if you made them. Thank you!

    hey thanks very much for your time to make this video. Just a question, if the rocker arm that needs replacing is on the front of the engine, can you still lift the cam up high enough to remove and replace it?

    • @Moretimethanmoney
      @Moretimethanmoney  Před rokem +1

      Hey there! Yes it is possible to replace a rocker arm on the front of the engine. But the closer you get to the front of the engine, the more careful you have to be. If the timing chain slips, you'll throw off the engine timing and then you'll have to reset the timing which is really difficult. Here's another video which is great and he shows a safer (but more expensive and more difficult) method where you can change the rocker arms on the front of the engine without fear of messing up the timing. Hope this helps and good luck!

    Great video. Question for you. From what I've read, this is a common issue with the rocker arm going out, as it seems to be a poorly made piece. Is there a reason why you didn't replace all the rocker arms on that side, while you already had access? Thanks for your help here!

    • @Moretimethanmoney
      @Moretimethanmoney  Před rokem

      It's best to replace them all once you have access. I only replaced the one because of money. But once you're in there, replace them all if you can afford it. Also, using my technique the ones at the end are hard (almost impossible) to remove and replace. You'll need to fully remove the cam shaft to make it easier and then you'll need special tools to do that or you'll mess up your engine timing.

    i’ve got this sound only with hot engine and in D gear while standing. the sound disappears when i switch to N or when i start moving. Can it be the rocker arm issue as well or likely smith else?

    • @Moretimethanmoney
      @Moretimethanmoney  Před rokem

      It's likely something else. The rocker arm most is caused by then cam shaft rotating on the rocker arm and the ball bearing in the rocker arm having worn out so now the cam shaft is hitting the metal sides of the rocker arm. The noise is constant when the engine is running. Since you only hear your noise when you're in gear, I'd start to suspect the transmission.

    Dude quick question. How the hell did you get the valve cover off with that stupid transmission fill tube in the way? I got the pcv valve the cam sensor out but when i lift the valve cover off the back corner gets caught on that transmission fill tube. I’m at a loss dude. Any info is much appreciated

    • @Moretimethanmoney
      @Moretimethanmoney  Před rokem

      Been awhile since I've done this one so my memory is getting hazy. If I remember correctly, first make sure you remove the PVC valve. See about 5:33 in the video. If you got that piece off I think that you have to push the valve cover back towards the rear of the jeep and then lift it up and then you can slide it out from under the transmission fill tube with some jiggling. Anyone else done this more recently can give Michael some tips on how to get the valve cover from under the fill tube?

      Hey buddy thanks for the reply!!!!!! And your help. FYI for anyone working on a 3.6 from 2011 till ....... You don’t need to remove or loosen the 2 bolts for the transmission filler tube. Just push on it towards the firewall while picking up on the valve cover and pulling it towards you. Slides right out. Same putting it back in. Now on another note. I HATE THIS FRIGGIN JEEP!!!!!!! Since I bought it brand new it’s been a POS. My daughter has it now but ever since I brought the thing home it’s been a problem. Recall after recall after recall. Anyway I really appreciate the help.

    • @Moretimethanmoney
      @Moretimethanmoney  Před 2 lety +7

      Hey Simon! Unfortunately yes. What's happening is that the rocket arm has a ball bearing in it which has broken. Essentially it's a wheel inside your engine. When your engine runs, there's a pole inside your engine with little nobs on it. Those nobs control when gas is let into the cylinder and then the spark plugs fire and that's what makes your car go. That pole runs on the wheel and the wheel is not even. Which is why you hear the tick. Over time that tick is going to get worse and the nobs on the pole are going to wear down. Your engine will start running rough and won't accelerate as good. Eventually that pole (the cam shaft) will need to be replaced. That's really expensive and difficult. Your car will still run for a long time. Like years with the tick, but eventually someone will have to fix it. If you can't afford to fix it, you might want to sell the car.

    How do you get the bracket at 2:50 out of the way??

    • @Moretimethanmoney
      @Moretimethanmoney  Před rokem

      You should be able to get in there with a wrench and remove the nut holding the upper airtake manifold to the bracket. Once you've removed that nut the manifold cam be removed. You don't need to remove the bracket.
