Our video about Roberto Duran: czcams.com/video/3l7_tUXbrVs/video.html
And Thomas Hearns: czcams.com/video/iwMsec3wvvY/video.html
In the 80s, a remarkable rivalry unfolded in the world of boxing when four outstanding champions in adjacent weight classes competed to determine the best, engaging in nine bouts among themselves. This period is now referred to as the era of the "Four Kings."

See the commentary was good until that jerk start talking about Mayweather Jr girlfriends see his video should be deleted it was no need for that!!
😊
I remember!
You r a badass from the jump you r the master you got SUGAR RAY LENARD LOVE YOU MAN CHAMP
I said I'd watch 10 minutes before bed and ended up watching the whole thing. I'll pay tomorrow....but it was worth it!
Why you so weak? That statement reveals your weakness on a couple different levels
@@Guru-ue2yp You might be the biggest clown I ever seen. Let my boy live his life, he clearly loves boxing!
Me too 😂
@@Guru-ue2yp you're a toxic clown lmfao, get a grip
Yep, me too.
Sugar just had phenomenal stamina. Absolutely and totally amazing how he could always find his second and third and even fourth winds.
Thats what is known as "HEART" RAY HAD A TON OF IT!
Must be something in the water in Wilmington neighborhood where he and Michael Jordan were both conceived, born and raised.
Their families lived blocks from each other. Did you know that?
Legend 🔥
I termed in warrior spirit in an earlier post but yes it is simply stamina. His stamina was exemplary. That dude even with his flashiness will always give you a fight.
"Out cold like a housewife on Xanax..." lol love the wordplay
I was looking for this comment!!!!!!
Grew up in this era. The greatest era ever
what a time that must of been!
Man you in your 60s lmao
I grew up in that era too. "The Four Kings" era was something Extra Special... *_Leonard, Hagler, Hearns and Duran_* All Giants in their own right... The most Amazing part of it was they were ALL so close together.
We all get old. Its life. @@Jack-ol1io
What an era it was!
That’s my father starting at 5:15 He said Sugar Ray was the fastest thing he’d ever seen. Fractured his ankle in the 1st, fought his heart out till the 6th. That’s something to be proud of Dad.
Your father (Frank Santore) was a excellent fighter, you should be proud. :)
@@steverakes6182 thank you for saying such, it’s greatly appreciated😁🤙🏽 He’s always said that if he didn’t injure his foot, he’d have gone the distance and given sugar ray a real fight, but he acknowledges that there was no path to victory for him, you can’t hit what you can’t catch. SRL is on a short list of the very best to ever do it.
Did he upset that ref, man he was getting wailed on in there. 😮
@@ash6415 hahaha no he was just known for his heart, ref knew that I’m sure, and they weren’t as careful back in the day. Even when he went down the last time he wanted to get up.
@frank_e_stein respect to your dad, he was one tough dude.. he's in there with one of the GOAT'S for sure.
when you make Tyson cry in admiration you know you did a great job ...
I can definitely see why my dad is such a big Leonard fan. This dude was highly skilled.
My kids middle name is in honour of sugar Ray leonard , my favourite fighter ( between him and Ray Robinson anyway)
Leonard, had superior skills, was very smart, and had the heart of a lion. My favorite fighter as well, and yes, he would’ve beat another great fighter in Floyd.
Little known fact Wilfredo benitez was rays brother in law must have been fun around the dinner table😂
Kid of the 70's...i grew up with the 4 kings...a golden age of boxing...thankyou
Yes.
Hagler, Tommy Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Roberto (grew up so poor ate garbage to survive) Duran.
"But Tommy was from a generation that didn't shave their armpits."
Some absolute gold commentary here lmao. Well done!
🤣🤘
"he almost sent him to his ancestors ..."
"he hit him that his grandkids will be dizzy ".... lmao
@@ALLNAMESAREALLREADYT LOL, great ones also.
"He was more persistent than a Jehova witness" and "And Floyd found it harder to stay upright, than his son's future girlfriends" had me laughing baaad😂😂😂
We always look at Leonard like as a pretty boy and boxings sweetheart, but boy was he tough. His speed and off beat style was beautiful to watch!
Yep, agreed. I used beautiful in my comment as well, which feels like an odd word to describe violent fist fighting, but man . . . it's an apt description of Leonard's skills in the ring.
if he is pretty than im scarred to know what you concider as ugly
@@justme-eb6lzWide majority of people thought he was pretty, you’re in the minority here
Sugar Ray Leonard's speed and accuracy were legendary, but his footwork and ability to string together long, varied combinations were a thing of beauty. That sounds weird when you're discussing a brutal sport like boxing, but "beautiful" is the only word I can find in my vocabulary that even comes close to describing the way he fought.
😊😊7o
Transcendent.
Definition: "greater, better, more important, or going past or above all others: transcendent power/beauty/love"
Example: He describes seeing Sugar Ray box as one of the transcendent moments of his life.
Balletic?
The greatest sugar Ray leonard
Nobody's listen Nobody's better than Sugar Ray Leonard
Sugar Ray's conditioning and technical boxing skills were on a whole other level. The commentator's descriptions of the power shots were hilarious. I really enjoyed this video.
Ray really was AND STILL IS one of a kind. I followed all his fights right up until he finally hung up his gloves. The 80s in that weight division really was special and a golden decade for boxing.
Prime Ray eats Floyd JR’s lunch everyday. Twice on Sunday.
Yep
Same goes for Hagler, Hearns and Duran.
But prime Robby caramelizes prime Sugar.
@dlaw4444 the four kings are timeless, put them in any generation and they'll rise to the top
Y'all underestimate Floyd Jr but it's fine...but am not mad since it's Ray
"Floyd had more difficulty staying upright than his sons future girlfriends" 😂😂😂 dude... 🤣
"Duran was more persistent than a Jehovah's Witness" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
"It was the 70's so Ray beat around the bush" 😂😂😂
Thomas Hearns had the best nickname of any fighter ever. Motor City Cobra is just cold.
hitman hearns is colder
Vanderlei Silva “The Axe Murderer” is the coldest.
@@cliptomaniac2562 sure... but we were both talking about Thomas Hearns you are talking about a different fighter. However cold his name may be Wanderlei Silva wasn't a boxer either.
@@ym2676 And he preferred Hitman
One of my heroes growing up....wow.
What a great era of boxing!!! Before I was born, but anybody who loves the sport can't help but be in awe of the talent and competition!
God I love this man, what an absolute assassin in the ring. So skilled, quick, but the heart to fight and the guys he fought. So tough. Absolute Legend!
Leonard stamina is cut above the rest
That was a treat to go down memory lane with those warriors the old guard. They don't make them like that anymore. For you young fight fans hope you enjoy watching those classic fights.
He's been my hero since age 9 in 1976 and still is to this day.
Best channel for combat sports
Straight up
I been watching boxing since the 1980s and i think a lot of people dont realise how good SRL was, i seen em all and pound for pound hes the best IMO. Fastest hands barring probably Roy Jones , footwork, power, boxing skills and the brains. And above all always had that heart and guts to dig deep. A rare quality for someone so skilled.
Ray had a slightly better blend of speed and accuracy with deceptively great power, but not quite Roy’s level of power.
Jones had a slightly better blend of speed and power but was still very accurate, just not as accurate as Ray.
Ray was faster than Roy Jones, and more accurate. Jones had a better blend of speed and power.
Ray Leonards spirit has been a blessing to this world.
My favorite fighter of all time.............
Well, that Brought Back The Best memories that I have 1960,1970,1980 and some of the 1990's
OH and Joe Frasier &Ali.thank you very much.
My first Boxing 🥊 hero ! Before Tyson, De La Hoya , Chavez and Canelo . That’s how Boxing became my favorite sport watching Amateur fights Sugar Ray and the 1976 Olympic boxing team! Memories 😊
They were at the peak of their career! I loved that fight because you saw a boxer turn into a puncher and you had a puncher turn into an expert boxer! If only Wilder had the trainers that Hearns had!😎
Great video! RIP Marvelous!
The commentary on this video was great. The puns are priceless
“Ray merked Lon so bad it made his grandchildren dizzy and almost sent Hearns to his ancestor” this narrator is spitting poetry bars 🔥 🔥 I’ll definitely sprinkle some sugar on the like button ✊🏽
Back in the 70s &80s fighters who became world champions had completed a long and successful amateur career (80+ fights) and around 50 pro fights …they could all box …into weight training too and a good diet too…and this produces fantastic fighters like Ray Leonard , Hagler , Duran , Holmes etc etc …..
I really like the narrator. He's funny as hell
Sugar ray punished his opponent lower punches and quickly switch to started to hitting on head shots In punches to a knock out punishes. One of the greatest fighter in history since Mahamiali from his retirement .Sugar Ray is taken boxing by storm with his quick switching his punches from head shots to switching to the knock out techniques hitting the opponent. The Greatest advantage as a boxer during the late 70s and 80s since Malhmiali boxer. 60s and 70s championship fights.
"Scared?"
"...just a little"
Not many would admit that
Sugar Ray Leonard was my first favorite boxer, and is now my all-time favorite. I followed him since I was an 11 yr old kid watching the Montreal Olympics 1976. Sugar Ray Leonard, Legend.
This is the legend of the boxing history
His footwork is still just insane to me. He slide steps so smoothly.
Edit: lol the Mayweather Jr. gf comment was gold
When Iron Mike says, "You were beautiful.".....that's it.
GOAT.
ive probably watched at least like 20 of these in the past few days love the longer docs
10:36 "It was the 70's, so Ray beat around the bush..." 😂
My favorite boxer ever.
That sparring session against that amateur gave an interesting insight into Leonard's pysche. When the guy had a go at Leonard, he was a bit affronted and put him firmly in his place, almost like "do you know who the fuck I am?".
He was a savage in the ring in his prime, for all his fancy skills and good looks....
Suger Ray Leonard is still one of my all-time favorites. He never ran from any of the great fighters of his era. He fought the best of his time and won them all. I didn't want to see him fight those monsters. People like Tommy Hearns, Marvin Hagler, and the Panamanian Devil, in my mind growing up, were true monsters, and I thought Sugar Ray should never have anything to do with them. But he never backed down from any of them. That was truly amazing for me, to watch him go into the ring and not only survived but also flourished and became the winner.
What about Aaron Pryor?
Julian jackson next!!
Hagler is next, he needs to complete the 4 kings
@@Caulderborn I'm good with that.
Then Julian jackson!!!
People don't realize how brutal Ray Leonard was.
His name should've been "Killer Ray"
Speed
Accuracy
Ring Savvy and Deceptive Power
S.R.L is one of boxing’s top fighters to ever put gloves on.
Probably my 2nd favorite fighter next to Ali. Definitely my favorite as a kid growing up in the DMV area in the 70s and 80s.
Leonard was more warrior than he got credit for. The pretty boy look and the fast hands yeah....but i was most impressed with his warrior spirit. He took just as much as he gave.
Boxing used to be so much fun in the 70's, 80's and early 90's; these men were superstars, but what I didn't know is that some of these men were making more money than athletes in other sports like basketball, American football or soccer.
I enjoyed all of that... Especially, the delightfully, colorful commentary ! Thank you.
Thank you for the ride down memory lane... He is my second all-time greatest fighter... Following with an unsurpassed level of admiration, respect, and honor, as well as, the deepest of appreciation for teaching men of color nothing is worth havin0g if you are not willing to "fight for it!" in the of margins Muhammad 'Cassius Clay' Ali The Goat!🥊🥊
Nobody stood toe to toe with Duran back then. Although he lost the fight he won the hearts of many
What a fighter the guy was such a pleasure to watch so skilful he had it all WOW🥊🥊
Not fighting Duran and Hagler earlier are the only question marks about his greatness.
Duran earlier? Like when? He fought Duran I think at his best.
Not rematching Hagler, also wasn't a good thing.
He fought Duran earlier and lost
You must be young. Duran was a lightweight most of his career. He fought him in his prime. Hagler was a middleweight. Which Floyd never fought. And never was out of his prime
@bencasey624 That was never practical because Floyd never fought as high as Middleweight and most importantly Hagler and Floyd fought in different eras, lol.
Also by his own admission, Sugar Ray said that he only took the Hagler fight, because he could see that Hagler wasn't the same fighter. Especially after his war with Magabi, which was a great fight.
Some good one liners in the commentary. Oh, and great fighter.
Let it be written in Stones 🌎🌍 one of the Greatest boxing Pharaoh's of all times! Ray Leonard
Gotta say, your jabs ( puns) are on point 😂😂
Remarkable and legendary icon.sugar ray legend.thats what i. Call him.god bless him.
can you do one with the black bruce lee (mason dixon) or raymond danels please or one about lenox lewis
Ray admitted to being scared! what a humble legend!
cant wait to watch this when i have time....never seen much of him, cant wait to change that.
Out cold like a housewife on Xanax 😂😂😂😂👍👍
Never feeling bored watching his fights
Thank you for such a beautiful cataloguing of a legend
If Ray was 25 today he would go undefeated and devastate the competition. I think he was the greatest welterweight that ever stepped in the ring.
Loved watching his fights!
Ray Leonard one of the best to ever do it. Don't know why he doesn't get the props he deserves. TTPFP ever.
Im a 21 year old man looking at new age boxing and old and it cant be dined no one in this age could hang with these guys they show there hard work in every move its just amazing
I love your rendition, man. You're the best!

Those 15 rounders were crazy!!!
Glad you notice his face if he’s like this he’s pretty goood 🤙
Thanks VT.
Sugar and Radar both dipping and leaning in to come up with a hook at the same time and headbutting each other just goes to show you how much they were alike and how close their boxing IQ was.
I miss the days when boxers throwing 'flurries' was a thing. Roy was probably the last of that breed.
What a legend!
...in the Gladiator Era, Sugar Ray Leonard in his division was 'Tops'...no doubts about it.
This was an amazing video thank you very much just wow 💪🏾💪🏾
Ray could have been greatest ever, just amazing skill. Next to Robinson and Ali
You have to love it!!!...the animal instincts the GREATS have!!!
Love Ray Leonard; 1 of the greatest pure boxers ever!
Excellent compilation and commentary that would make Howard Cosell proud. Well done.
🥊🥊REAL SUPER STARS 💯💯
"More persistent than a Jehovah's witness"😂😅🤣
