The Atal Tunnel, formerly known as the Rohtang Tunnel, is a highway tunnel located in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It's one of the longest highway tunnels in the world, spanning approximately 9.02 kilometers (5.6 miles).
The tunnel provides all-weather connectivity between Manali and Lahaul-Spiti Valley, reducing travel time and enhancing accessibility to the remote regions of the state. It's named after former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who initiated the project.
