The Turkish Get Up is one of the most powerful exercises you can do with a kettlebell. It delivers on all fronts and demands correct technique and skill. For a very long time, we've done this simple and yet crucial mistake in the Turkish Get Up that may cause problems in the lower back.
Especially on the descending phase of the lift, there is one particular movement that you want to do in order for you hips to move freely to bypass your lower back.

This is one of the most important videos you have ever made. The advice on rotating the front leg instead of windshield wiping it to the side, hinging down to free the hip to move and protecting the lumbar spine is so important. Finally, bringing the weight to the middle of the body as you drop down… these all fixed my problems and allowed me to enjoy the getup. Thank you. ❤

Amazing thanks for this video. 3 things I learnt from this video that transformed my TGU:
    1) rotating the body instead of windshield wiping my back leg (windshield wiping irritates my knee skin)
    2) centering the KB on the way down when lying down
    3) the importance of hinging the hip as opposed to compromising the lower back!

I also want to point out this important thing; once you get more comfortable with the TGU you will want to go faster, do the movement quicker and that will defeat the purpose all together. It’s a big mistake in my ol’book. Do the motions methodically at a slower speed. If not you’re opening yourself for serious injuries.
