Well... 5 years ago I bought a 8kg kettlebell. I was doing the swing for about 20 minutes.. The next 3 days I could barely walk.. That was how bad I did this exercise.. Very bad
I didn't touch the thing for 5 years after that.
Yesterday, I tried again with my newly gained knowledge over the years. I did the swing for 30 minutes (deep breaths inbetween every 10-20 swings). While I DO feel it in my back and clutes today. It was no way near the disaster 5 years ago...
This is a really good and helpful video. And you are not trying to sell me any bullshit, other than good solid advice.. Thanks you! ❤
I have arthritis, but I can still do the basic swing. I have been doing it for years using a 32KG kettlebell. But every time I watch your videos I pick up something that I’m not doing correctly. Keep up the good work. I hope to reach perfection one day.
Keep it up
So glad you mention the “baby weight” phenomenon. Nothing worse than videos with pumped up men - with clearly no previous kettlebell training - performing an alleged “swing” with a mini kettlebell.
I saw one bloke doing a “one arm swing” *throwing* a 10 kg kettlebell from one hand into the other. 😂
That "stick" trick to correct hip hinge is a game changer! Great video!
Awesome video, clear instructions and great tips. Thank you 💫
Great advice to avoid mistakes that I can see sooooo often at the Gym.
Great video, LS. Solid cues all around.
Thank you Gregory
THANK YOU MY BROTHER
Your video with Luka teaching the hardstyle swing is the best tutorial for the swing I’ve seen. I still rewatch it every once in a while.
This one, ACA?

Solid advice as always. ✔
Mind blown Thank you
I am grateful for these tips. Expecially the last one!
as a 60plus male, I think another thing is to use a lighter weight until you get the basics right, also, for me I get tingling in my right hand fingers like a nerve pinch so it is a bit difficult to do these reps. something with the kettle movement, I never have that when I am doing wieghts.. I think kettleballs are called a kenetic exercise that puts a stress on your arms not normally associated with weights.
Excellent tips, thank you!
You're welcome!
Superguet - danke vielmals! Immer tiptop, Dini Tipps. LG us Uster 👋
This is the best video of kettle bell swing form I’ve found. Thanks. Been struggling how to do it properly as I’ve heard that the spine has to be straight and perform the hinge in order to not put undue strain on the spine. Finally I can understand it.
You're welcome!
very helpful, thank you
You're welcome!
Best video I have seen yet on technique and tips. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Always great advice!
Glad you think so!
Really good advice on body mechanics, invaluable observations thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Ugh!!! Some of those examples really burned my eyes!!
The stick for the hinge is a great cue. So is the weight tip - I started out with a very light weight and my form was terrible. Once I increased the weight, my form improved greatly.
how is this not at least 200k views is beyond me. This explains the posture, area of body to focus your strength on when doing the swing and most importantly mistakes to avoid.
Great video!
Appreciate it!
Thank you for your content....
My pleasure!
for mistake 7, you can try doing swings holding a towel wrapped around the handle. because you don't have a rigid connection between the arm and the kettlebell, you'll know if you are using your arms to lift the kettlebell rather than momentum from the hips if the kettlebell hangs straight down from your hands at the top of the movement.
Ok- excellent tips - thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I find with the kettlebell it’s really good for your stability. I find that Iam walking better and feel stronger all over. I have tried loads of things over the years but think this is the best piece of equipment you can incorporate in your daily workouts.
I'm a noob, but it looks like all most all the mistakes are fixed by hinging correctly. The exercise seem to be driving the hips forward and back.
Good spot, friend!
You are the best in my opinion, the damn best
I see a lot of videos of people drop way down on the back swing. The way I was taught was essentially your hands are up in your crotch when you bring it back. That helps keep my back straight so I'm guaranteeing the power comes from the hip hinge vs. trying to create power with my upper back. As you get to the higher weights, this becomes A LOT more more important, especially in avoiding injury.
I remember when I first started doing the kettlebell swing, I was told to feel like you are fing the air with each thrust of your hips. After that I never really forgot. But this video did show me I was bending my knees too much. I hope to correct this from here on out. Thanks for these great tips.
Glad to be of service!
Thanks
Thanks for the Super Thanks, Tim! 💙
Nice video but... LS lifting that foot on a swing and lifting with the calf. Tut tut. LS should make a video about hinging ❤
Great video thank you! 1 observation and 1 question. First, i really appreciate your pointing out how important timing is, letting the arms come down and into contact with the body before breaking the hip hinge. In my experience this is also key to minimizing bell flop by making the arc less circular (or perhaps making it a smaller segment of a much bigger circle) which keeps the bell from rounding the bottom of the circle and start moving back up again, so those two points could be usefully connected to each other. Second, why do you move your feet the way you do? I've seen you mention this in other videos and that it is deliberate, but what is the rationale? Thanks for spreading the good word on kettlebells!
Moving the feet is a technique I‘ve developed.
Thank you for making videos with such solid instruction!
However, you never mentioned neck alignment in this video; in many of the video clips that you critiqued, the individuals fix their gaze forward and crane their necks at the bottom of their hinge. This causes undue strain on the neck, does it not?
Good point. We call it the "broken neck" syndrome. lol
Never heard the 'bonus mistake' at all before. Think I need erase and restart my whole swing form!
Kb swings. Always!
My favourite cue for glute activation is to finish the swing as if you are trying to hold your credit card between your bum cheeks 😀 (obviously this is just a cue - a conventional wallet is better for everyday card storage 😉)
is 12kg a good starting weight? (middle aged man); i just confirmed this by d/loading your ebook!
I just start doing these recently and apparently I’m bend my knees to much. I feel like my hip hinge is good and I’m not using my arms too much to bring the weight up but I’m definitely in a much wider stance and bend my knees more than you are in this video.
You didn't mention how they keep staring forward, bending the neck. You do keep yours in line with the spine, which is perfect form, just wasn't addressed. But hey, so much to focus on! I'm hypermobile so have to focus on every joint in every exercise! 😂 great video, love this ❤
Yes, you are right!
I think that's what he means at 6:39 straight back vs straight spine
Sir, love the content and your delivery. One ask. Please please reduce the volume on the background music or, even better remove it all together. I want to concentrate on you & your voice and not be distracted... Especially as you have something worth listening too. Thank you so much 👍
Noted, Dave! Thanks for sharing! 💪
@@lebe-stark No, thank you. 🤚
#9, don’t confuse STRAIGHT with VERTICAL. Same with the squat.
People do the swing wrong because every CZcams fitness expert does it differently in their videos . Dan Jon has the best and simplest explanation on how to do the swing in my opinion
People do Swings wrong because they never do them, let alone give them the practice they deserve.
Is kettlebells only for men over 40 or younger men can use it also?
Younger folks can profit also from it!
Hey coach, where do you get these videos from😂. Its called shooting shit with confidence.
That's what I'm learning from these b-roll folks too! lol
@@lebe-stark 😁
I never got the ebook
Check your spam. It went out twice if you signed up correctly.
That is why dont like doing exercises like this its cux i know my form is not good but KB swings i must master
What’s missing here is a discussion about what the goal of the kb swing is. What muscles are we trying to work? Seriously.
Mid-section and legs; specifically your back legs.
i saw a video where the guy says its not a hinge.....its a squat. i dont think so.
I’ve been doing them wrong for years. 🤦🏼♂️
I send your videos to my friend all the time but he never watches them. I fear for his back.
The first guy looking like he waiting for the booty warrior.
I see the mistakes in the bad videos, all the time at my gym. I want to correct them, but I'm not sure how it would be received.
My rule used to be: Give advice when asked; otherwise don't undermine the authority of the trainers… even if they don't know better.
@@lebe-stark right, I really just want to save an injury. Anything else is a bonus.
These KILL my lower back no matter how hard I try to follow the guidelines for a correct swing. I wish that I could do them but it isn’t worth the virtual incapacitation😢
Maybe too much volume or weight?

Liebe Gruess zruck! :)
Nothing like watching this AFTER I throw my f**king back out :)
Best advice I got was ‘play chicken with your balls’. Fixed my form. Think about it.
I tried kettle bell swing.. and broke my lower back...I have been bed ridden
This is like the opposite of what Pavel instructs
The world of kettlebells offers more than just Pavel's opinions.
I thought the squat swing was a variation not really a mistake

Sorry I overlooked that, you were saying that it was a more advanced version of. That was the first swing that I learned. I’m a fan of your content and kettlebell training. Can’t move the weight you’re demonstrating but at 67 years old I’m getting there. Thank you.
You got this! Put in the required practice and you'll get there! Thanks for sharing! 💪
Was going to download your free ebook until the application asked for my street address. WTF?
You're misunderstand the download of free e-book with the application process to get coaching.
It seems, the more you teach'em,they do more bullshit...😂😂😂
LOL
"if you are over 40 you don't have alot of time"
Short life expectancy?
Growing responsibilites
@@lebe-stark it was my bad attempt at humour 😉
I'm almost 50 and have just started looking at kettlebells as an option. Your videos are really good mate.
Maybe show just one example of a proper swing instead of 100 wrong swings
I don't think he bent his knees into a squat a single time
Re-read the title, brother.

@@lebe-stark I got it, and thank you. You’ve garnered a follower and a customer.
again but louder for all the Crossfitters in the back
Lol what has this got to do with age for men?
man those videos are AWFUL. esp 20 years after KB's hit the west (again).
"How to fix this" you can stop doing it and do an exercise movement that isnt almost useless.
Are kettle Bell swings useless?
Put on a shirt...
Please put some clothes on (it's off-putting) and let your content be the main substance.
My body is the result of my substance, friend.
@@lebe-stark I'm 48 and maintain c. 6% body fat with very good definition. I've trained with kettlebells for years and my body, too, is the result of substance. I'm interested in what you may have to teach, but I'm just put off watching videos of someone half-dressed. The same applies to Athlean-X.
Funny because you aren't doing them correctly either, rookie!
