Just picked up a used Plus Top pro at a pawn shop. Almost 10 years old and looks brand new! It's my first "nice" guitar that's not a $100 beater, and as a beginner, I couldn't ask for a better playing decently priced instrument. Whenever I pick it up, it's hard to put it back away! Great review!
Great playing.I own the same pelham blue standard, most surprising to me was how good it sounds clean
awesome comparison, thanks for making this video . It `s helping me with my choice
You simply can’t go wrong with those epis. These past 5 years, they have put of amazing guitars when compared to the Gibson versions. I own both and love them both. I love the semi hollow bodies epiphone puts out. Change those pick ups and you’re basically 99% there.
Just bought the Pelham Blue Standard. What a gorgeous guitar! Now if I can make it sound as good... I need to get a good amp next.
That pelham blue one is different for sure. Wow. Noticeable. Great guitar there.
Great video Buddy!
Great job man! I went with a turquoise Blue studio, which I thought sounded great when you were playing it! Keep em coming!!
Thanks brother!
Nice Vid Rich! Loved the Blue STD! Your performance was great man! I have a Korean ‘94 Standard LH in Cherry Sunburst probably the only color made in LH. I put SD Classic ‘57s in it along with Switchcraft Pots, Jack and Switch sounds great! Funny thing, the Truss Cover says Gibson in it not Standard, LOL! I’ve been looking at the Custom Pro LH in Black and the SG PRO. I’ve been playing EPIs since the mid ‘60s and have had to look far and wide for LH Versions! Please keep up the Good Work my Friend. Have a Great Day!!
Thanks Rick!
I liked all of them, but I liked more the Standard and Studio, not sure why. Very cool video, thanks for the review!
Welcome!
Great review.
I have a standard in that blue. Love it
Even though you were playing something similar to "Sweet Child O' Mine," I thought the tone sounded a lot like "Cliffs of Dover" right there. I really dig Epiphone - I bought two acoustics and one electric for my sons, and I have an Epiphone Dot Cherry that I use for a semi-hollow. They make really good Gibson guitars without paying extra for the Gibson name.
Which is why I have owned (and parted with) seven Epiphone models and am now getting another, a Sheraton II.
The blue one sounds so good.
That’s some nice playing!
I thought the Standard cut through the looped mix slightly better than the Pro. Probably because it's just a tad brighter. Was surprised at how good the Studio sounded for the price. It seems that all three are winners.
The red one sounds good. ❤
They sounded really good.
Your pics are absolutely right I got the studio last week I am now going to trade it in for the standard but the black one I have the studio I do have the coil splits I don't know what was wrong with the other one but I do have the call splits
Great review! I would have to try the guitar myself. Too see which one I like myself. Which one has the less muddied pickups? I a lot of classic hard rock. AC/DC, Stones, Beatles, Sabbath, Zeppelin, Metallica. Which in your opinion sounds better for this type of music? Thank you.
I have the standard in the blue love it but the tuners feel crazy cheap. Just bought a standard pro, also in the burst blue. Got it used for $250!!! Love it!!! The tuners are very nice, very solid. Love both. I haven’t looked close yet but the necks do feel different between the two
Great video, I really like these guitars, Currently own the plus top pro model. Great tone and great to play, cannot fault any I've owned.. I also own the Gibson version, the epiphone is fantastic value for money and won't let you down. Love your playing man.
Thanks brother!
Great vid bud have you tried the classic ?
I also have the standar version and upgrade with EMG James hetfeild pick ups and now its sounds great super super great
The probucker pickups are excellent
If your playing was all I was gauging my interest in purchasing one of these guitars upon, I would’ve had all three by the end of this video!
As it is, I just ordered a Sheraton II.
Those are beautiful!
They absolutely are. Owned one before and am getting this latest one to replace it.
I'm curious how the epiphone les paul custom would compare to these 3.
Hi! One question: do these modela port a maple cap or just a veneer at the top? Thank you! 🙂👍🏼
What is the black one called
So you’re from USA and do you still own that guitar in your studio (the black guitar)
I thought the Pelham Blue Standard sounded the best! I realize that individual guitars can sound better than an identical model, and one's ear is different from someone else's.
Txs for the review
I have Gibsons and Epi's. What do I think?
I need to practise. :-(
Nice playing!..
The Epis are very good value! Somewhere along the road they got a whole lot better!
The black Customs with Emgs are awesome!
MH models in particular.
Can you throw one of them into a review?
As with most Les Paul type guitars, the necks split back on the fret board if there dropped, They all do that, so glue em back up if it happens. There only wood.
I have 2 that I had to fix. (not dropped by me)I bought one busted knowing I could just glue it back up. There actually stronger after the fix! go figure?
The pickups in these are fine, side by side next to a traditional, you can get very close sounds to the gibsons pickups. Mess with the tone controls or your amp and there a dead ringer!
These are great guitars!
Get em second hand if you cant afford em new!
Many aren't played much!..
I dont have a blue one but I like that colour very much!
"Thats all Folks!"
What’s the difference between Epiphone les Paul Standard “Pro” and the standard “Plus Pro”?
Thank you in advance.😀
He plays so well also
Thanks for te video- I have tested this very model today for one hour- Beautiful guitar - and I have to say I like it very much - either the feeling of the neck and the sound - splittable pick ups don't look like making a very strong impact - one main problem !!! I have been playing for almost one hour as said and I needed to tune the guitar several times - Now I don't' know if this was my one or is this a normal thing for this guitar? (sure I know already of the famous straggle Gibson and similar have with tuning but I think it was too much - In a gig probably would stay in tune for one song only) - Any suggestion or comment ? any hint? any advise? - Thanks again - Mauro
I had to change the nut on mine. I made a video about it, you can search it up on my channel.
@@RichBischoff sure I'll do - happy new year
Wooodoggy by Golly I just picked up Les Paul studio It’s read it’s awesome
That Studio sounds best to my ears
Lol I just got the Phelham blue standard, so epic
Probuckers are great !!
probucker dark sound’ standart clear sound’ studio cool sound
I hope one day to get a Nice LP. Theres a 100 locally for 40 bucks with new strings but I'm flat broke. Hahah. I'd love a tele as well. One day! For now it's my strats! Love the channel man. Wish I could infinity sub. Hahahaha
Thanks man!
Hi thanks for your video, is 2007 a good year for ephipone? I can get a used classic one for 300 or a new one studio for 400, which one do you recommend?
I'd get the new one.
@@RichBischoff Thanks for the very swift answer, the used one has a label instead of engraved serial so I think is second, Ill go with new one even if its a studio. I prefer Standard
Ya play what U Can afford. All three sounds great.
Epi has and does make very nice guitars for the $$. I shopped for a Les Paul (sub $1000) for about a year, including used ones. What I wound up with is a 2018 Gibson lp tribute. Is it better than epiphone? Not really. I had gone in looking for the tribute goldtop. I played it, and it was nice, but beside the gt was the tribute in honeyburst. Not at all my favorite color, but, it was a floor model, scratched up a bit. Once I played it, I took out my wallet. Was it the be all/ end all? By no means, but, something about it I loved. I did have to dress the feet edges and do a setup. For less than $900, I'm very satisfied, though I probably will change the harness and maybe pickups. I'm thinking of sending the top finish off and doing a dark natural stain.
Of the 3 here, the Pelham Blue is the nicest to me.
Thanks for commenting. None of these epiphones need fretwork, and they came set up nice. I'm covinced you don't have to pay a fortune anymore to get a decent guitar. That said, I wish I had a gibson, just to feel legit... haha.
@@RichBischoff I'll add to that. I agree on the epiphone lp I tried. All of them had very nice fretwork. I'm guessing since the tribute I bought was a 2018 model, and I got it in Feb 2019 or so, that the rosewood had shrunk a tad. I really didnt have to do much. Setup was pretty good as is, I just lowered the action a tad, straightened then neck a touch and then had to adjust the d,g, and b intonation very slightly. I will say the nut from factory was cut extremely well. I'm looking at getting an epiphone wildkat next possibly. Theres one for sale at a reasonable price not too far up the road in Houston. What I really need to do is spend less time with gas, and more practice, haha. Really digging your channel. Rock on.
I am barely starting to learn guitar the past week. All three sounded exactly the same to me. If I were to guess the differences could have been from user caused variations in play.
Naw. If you're new to guitar your ears just don't know what listen to yet.
I can not justify the price difference especially with Gibson quality issues.... epiphone just makes sense!
Are the coils really tapped or just split on the Standard Pro?
Probably just split, I couldn't tell a huge difference.
Split
They are spilt. I have the pro. It’s my first guitar I just started learning
The standard was by far the best sounding of the three.
I own the same as the black 1 she rips
What mic do you use for recording your voice?
Lyx Pro CMG 50 www.amazon.com/LyxPro-CMG-50-Microphone-Professional-Television/dp/B01IE0506Q/ref=asc_df_B01IE0506Q/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309770125437&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=526440729387664746&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9029787&hvtargid=aud-801381245258:pla-585376472589&psc=1#aw-udpv3-customer-reviews_feature_div
Studio sounded good man. Not sure about that
How about buy a used Gibson?
I guess if your looking at a tribute or a studio, then those are reasonably priced. Almost everything else I've seen on reverb.com used is pushing $2000-$4000 range.
@@RichBischoff something misunderstanding, sorry for that. I have got one. I said how about you get a used one.
You can buy a epiphanies and do all the upgrades on the pickups and electronics for cheaper than a Gibson
Clean please clean overdrive honestly you can't tell much difference I like your sound it is my preference but on demos you need clean
Given the fact that gibson doesn't exist right now, I would say it is out of my budget
I don't much worry about sound. Those are easy remedies. Playability is everything. I can play my jay turser lp far better than any gibson lp. I put Saturday night specials in it and wow. A 300 dollar guitar with 200 dollar pickups that sounds better than my buddys 2500 gibson. Pisses him off.
Kind of goofy to demo them with a lot of overdrive. So, how much do they cost and how much do they weigh ? Please. That's the info I need.
I'm shocked to say I preferred the Les Paul Studio model
Yeah honsetly the more I do this the more I realize there are just some great guitars for not very much money. The studio is great.
I’ve got that studio. about 5-6 years already? I’ll never have a reason to upgrade
Kai 661 how is it live?
I just picked up mint 2011 model for 100. Sounds good so far
@@RichBischoff 10 years with Studio Ebony - I'm happy with it.
I own 2 Les Paul Standards, and looking for a 3rd. The pick ups are pretty good as well. (^_^)
7
I have standard pro and standard,i more like pro sound.
in the end ... why buying a Gibson ???
Great sound great playing but Gibson is Gibson nite and day but man can you play
Gibson learned a great deal about designing guitars of many kinds from Epiphone.
You right but guess what Epiphone never improve to beat out Gibson my guess they are comfortable ln price range for people who wants Les Paul. Just think for a minute if Gibson learn from Epi than why Epiphone not on top and make better quality than Gibson
Sorry Edwin, but that’s immaterial. There have been instances when the servant becomes the master, but somebody had to teach them.
Yeap and now Gibson is on top Epi not bad I have both even changing pickups still Gibson shine even the cheaper ones like Studio are better than the more expensive Epi for the almost same price.
Although I own and enjoy one Gibson guitar, I still say the value for a Les Paul such as these three is far greater. It would be different if the ES-335 were still available today for the same relative price (adjusted for inflation) as it was in 1067 when a family friend of mine purchased one.
During the 60s and 70s, Gibson was owned by a company titled Norlin, but they got free from Norlin in the 80s. It’s possible that Epiphone could split away from Gibson and make their mark again as something other than Gibson’s poor man adjunct.
the clean sounds were really... missing
Of course in 2021 we now know that these weren’t “inspired by Gibson” so clearly they are all garbage. ;)
