  • The Les Paul Standard and the Les Paul Studio are great guitars in their own unique way. But how big is the difference and is it noticeable?

    I have a Standard and Studio and love them. They both sound like a Gibson Les Paul with subtle differences. It doesn't matter what model you play since a lot of your tone comes from your fingers, amp, EQ, speaker(s), etc.

    A Studio is all I really need. I don't think my playing is even worthy of a Standard but I keep coming back to the 60s Standard in unburst as the color is somewhat similar to the color of the Greeney LP and Gary Moore is my number one inspiration. Definitely the closest you can get to that color with a run of the mill production Les Paul. Just feel like I gota have that gorgeous finish and if I buy a Studio I'm sure I'll love it but I'll still be longing for an unburst or lemon drop Standard. I'm thinking buy once cry once.

    I have both, 21 Standard 60’s unburst with burst buckers 61 & an 05 Studio in wine red with 490R & 498T’s. Both are loved and were purchased as new. In fact the Standard I purchased at Gibson Garage in 21. Great experience! So, the Studio is going through some tasteful mods….I hope. I removed the gold pickup covers and black pick guard and now going to black hardware with a pickup change as well. Keeping all the original parts of course. I think it will look great with the black/burgundy mix. After 18 years of owning the Studio and having fun with it, I thought why not?? Won’t hurt the value. My studio has a slightly wider neck profile than my slim taper neck Standard, so they play and feel differently. Keeping them both!!!

    What is most important is the sound and how it feels in your hands and how it plays. Nice review but more about the sound...

    Great vid, but I think you neglected to factor in the play-ability factor as in, how the guitar feels to play. Sure you might get the about the same sound out of the Studio, but the Standard imo has a feel to it that just makes playing it more enjoyable. Personally I think you can sense the build quality just holding it, and if your guitar flows and conforms better with you as I think the Standard does, you are going to get a better sound out of it through just playing better and want to play it more. That's why I like the Standard over the Studio.

      Richlite was ~2012 to ~2019 but as with all guitar manufacturers, someone at Gibson will find a pile of richlite fretboards in the future use it on more guitars!

    I have a 2017 tribute and the feel of the neck, to me, is 1000% over the std. i just hate the stickyness of the gloss finish on necks.

    Not a Rosette, it's an trapezoid inlay.
    totally not a veneer it's a solid maple cap. Totally not pearloid. It's mother of pearl. Otherwise good video, visually the ebony fretboard against the aged Olympic white is gorgeous, reminds me of randy Rhoads (r.i.p) Les Paul custom. Sans binding and of course the pickups are going to be different than those used in the 70s.

    They chose “studio” instead of “student”, not trying to knock it. I play a studio. Love mine. I swapped pots, caps, switch, and wiring. Kept the 490t & 498r pickups, they are the Alnico 2’s I’d have replaced them with anyway. Will say the studio is thinner body. Switch hits cover and this will crack it over time. Don’t care though, that’s the beauty of the studio. I can beat the piss out of it, and it sounds killer

  • @SergiOrtiz
    @SergiOrtiz Před rokem

    Your studio doesn’t have top hats, those are called speed knobs, also the top on your standard is not quilted, its called flamed top.

  • @mboyer68
    @mboyer68 Před rokem

    Looks wise I prefer the Studio especially ones with an ebony fretboard. When there's binding on the neck but not the headstock, it just doesn't look right. So I prefer the Studio again. I definitely love binding but it's got to have it on both. With the neck outlined in binding but nothing in the headstock, it disappears, it looks...disappointing. So unfortunately my next guitar will have to be a Custom, yikes. I definitely got a killer deal on my 2002 Studio with the premium plus top. Sick flamed maple top and ebony fretboard with original hard case for $800 in almost new condition. I have a video from the night I picked it up and will post after cleaning soon.
    Side note, I think the used Gibson market will crash as the boomer generation continues to flood the market with their collections. I checked last night and there's 12,005 Gibson Les Pauls and 2,700 Gibson ES 335's for sale on reverb as of 11/27/22. You can filter and see what has sold, I went back about 100 Gibson ES 335s that sold and they're all around $2200 but most of them have asking prices way higher than that. The crash is coming and then I'll be able to buy my ES335 and LP Custom:)

    A Les Paul Studio is a REAL Les Paul. And if you're going for looks, the Les Paul Standard is DIFFERENT from the ORIGINAL Les Paul back in the day.

  • @Coolbeans1492
    @Coolbeans1492 Před 7 měsíci

    I think this dudes a bit of a snob tbh. Studios are cool looking less Paul’s (get it). I think they’re really modern lps instead of a classic type. I like the no binding and they used to come out with really cool colours for these things with premium plus tops. If they started doing that again and slapping ebony on the board again these would sell like hot cakes. They should drop the modern because that’s what these always were…

    If someone judges you for owning a USA made Gibson Les Paul studio over a standard, that person is not worthy of sharing in the "guitar love" and are definitely not worthy of respect.
    You can have your own preferences..but when people judge others for owning a 1000+ USD guitar made in USA....that person is a moron and probably can't even play guitar. Because a real player knows, the guitar is the most important aspect. It's the player.
    Great video man. Do one with the tribute. Maybe we can lure out some snobs.

      All those guys were around before the studio existed. A student model implies inferior parts, especially electronics. Not seeing major differences here.
