    You should check the system information and see how much amperage your MacBook is actually charging. It’s possible to hear the charging tone but it’s actually in a low wattage fallback mode. This is actually not good for your computer, especially if it’s under normal or high performance use, you can damage the battery and charging components by using chargers that are under wattage. I wouldn’t recommend people use that for their devices for serious work. As an emergency cable for a few minutes, obviously it will be fine

    • @NewAppleTimes
      @NewAppleTimes  Před 10 měsíci +1

      You are right. The cable that came with the Mac charges at 94W, but this one only at 28. So yes, it's better to not use it as your normal method of charging, thank you for the warning! I will pin your comment so that everyone who watches the video is aware

    • @NewAppleTimes
      @NewAppleTimes  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hi! I'm afraid I don't have an HDMI TV set to try it. However, speaking out of my knowledge, if it's a very heavy video it might not work since Lighting is only USB 2.0 speeds (very slow). But again, that's just my guess so it may actually work!

  • @danielegger6460
    @danielegger6460 Před 10 měsíci

    Okay, so you already have a USB-C charger and you have the USB-C cables that came with all the devices. Why on earth would someone pay extra money to use this adapter providing less features and less charging speed than simply using a USB-C cable? If you're selling your lightning device, you might as well sell the cables with it rather than paying a chunk of cash extra to keep using them (and let the real USB-C cables rot in the drawer). This adapter would only make a tiny bit of sense lightning cables had a proprietary plug at the other end -- but they don't, it's USB-A or USB-C already.

    • @mjrausch
      @mjrausch Před 10 měsíci +3

      There are car interfaces that are Lightning and cannot be cheaply or easily replaced (like in the $90,000 Audi A8). This provides an easy way.
      Also many accessories that were made with a soldered Lightning interface (the Shure MV88 microphone comes to mind). Cheap and easy way to keep your gear running.
      Open your mind up a little.. not everything is usb-c ready yet. And this is a great step.

    • @danielegger6460
      @danielegger6460 Před 10 měsíci

      @@mjrausch I feel sorry for you and your Audi A8 and I'm happy at the same time that Apple has your back covered for just $30. For the rest of us, Apple and it's exotic connectors (on some products at least) have already annoyed us long enough to happily ditch it for good and use the cables that we already use for all non-Apple devices. For instance to connect "normal" devices, I previously had to resort to various crazy Lightning to whatever and potential more (like USB-A to USB-C) adapters to e.g. connect my audio interface. Not to mention that there's always a big chance that the darn lightning charging cable always kicks the bucket exactly when you need it the most (so you have to always pack a bunch and of the right variety because, guess what, my Macs only have USB-C, most random charging outlets still are only USB-A).
      I'm glad it solves a critical need for you, but getting excited about a product only a few thousand people on this planet actually really need seems quite a bit over the top.

      @@danielegger6460I was never arguing that USB-C is a welcome change, and I'm no apologist for Lightning.. just that this adapter is great, and why it exists in this in-between period.

    Nintendo suggests 65Watt charger max or risk damage to the console

      And it has to be one that can output the right voltages that the Switch requires

    • @NewAppleTimes
      @NewAppleTimes  Před 10 měsíci

      The thing with Apple Power Adapters is that, just like the Switch, they support Power Delivery, which is a standard by which the connected device and the adapter "talk to each other" to determine how much power should be drawn, and that's what it takes. Therefore, the fact that it is a 96W power adapter does not mean that it will charge it at 96W, but rather that that is the maximum it can support (for example, when charging the iPhone with that adapter it peaks at 27W)

    • @CreativelyJeff
      @CreativelyJeff Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@NewAppleTimes how do we know that Nintendo doesn’t have old hardware that doesn’t communicate this. There have been issues with 3rd party docks that bricked or fried the switch and it could have been due to “non-communication” or non-compatibility.

    • @NewAppleTimes
      @NewAppleTimes  Před 11 měsíci +4

      I think it is a good thing to just not generate all the waste of all the existing lightning cables, they can be given a second life. However, I think the vast majority of people buying it will be those who have some accessories that connect to the lightning port, not cables.

The only reason I might buy is because I’m switching to the iPhone 15 pro
