🔹 Why USB-C for iPhone?
Apple's transition from the lightning cable to USB-C was a significant move. However, the USB-C market can be quite chaotic, making it hard for consumers to find a good product without proper guidance.
🔹 Value for Money? Not Always!
Interestingly, USB-C cables are one of the few product categories where the price doesn't always dictate quality.
🔹 Ranking Breakdown:
1. Mophie Fast Charge USB-C 3.1 to USB-C 3.1 Charging Cable ($10)
Surprisingly tops the list with its affordability and performance.
USB 3 cable with top-tier data transfer and charge speeds.
Braided design with a sleek metallic head.
2. Amazon Basics Double Braided Nylon USB C ($20)
-Affordable and part of Amazon's quality basic lineups.
-Unique double braided nylon design.
-Average charge speeds with slower data transfers among USB 3 cables.
3. FasGear USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 Cable (~$15)
-2nd best in data transfer tests.
-Average charging speeds but comes with a braided cable for better handling.
-Metallic head keeps the connector cool.
4. Cable Matters 10Gpbs USB C to USB C Monitor Cable (~$12)
-Superb charging and data transfer speeds.
-Basic design with a slightly tacky rubber coat.
-Distinct cable head shape for easier removal.
5. Anker Powerline III ($15 for 2)
-Best for standard iPhone 15 users.
-Excellent charging capability at an affordable price.
-Rubber-coated for a familiar Apple aesthetic.
-USB 2.0 with decent data transfer speeds, albeit not the fastest.
🔹 Notable Mentions:
Chubby Cable: Expensive but excellent handling.
Apple’s own cables rank lower with the 240W cable at #15 and the 60W cable (included with the iPhone 15) at #18.
🔹 Top Tip:
When shopping for USB-C cables, prioritize the USB version (USB2 or USB3). While USB2 may suffice for standard iPhone 15 users, those with the Pro versions aiming to connect their phones to drives should opt for USB3.
📌 Final Thoughts:
Don't be swayed by expensive cables with fancy finishes. It's essential to understand your requirements and make an informed decision.

So if you're planning on getting a USB-C cable, pay attention to the USB version. Out of the 21 cables in my test group, only 4 were USB-C 3.x. Within that group, two were USB-C 3.2 and two were USB-C 3.1 and biggest difference from what I saw came from the data transfer speeds. Now, even within the USB-C 3.1 and 3.2, there are variants where an older version is faster than a newer version. For example, USB 3.1 Gen 2 has faster download speeds than USB 3.2 Gen 1.
What a dumpster fire...
Great information thxxx
Reviewer not influencer eh... It's a dumpster fire because you did now know the difference between USB 3.1 Gen 1, USB 3.1 Gen 2, and USB 3.2 when you initially shot and edited the video? Did you even know that only the 15 Pro phones support USB 3 when you shot and edited this video? Your video is a dumpster fire. Oh but all that time you spent making this nonsensical video, gotta monetize it someway right? Let's not forget that afflilliate link revenue... You have lost all credibility as an honest reviewer. Let's see how you censor your comments section.
It’s because of the cable length. There is no sense in getting 3.2 if it’s 1m+ as the signal diminishes too fast (only exception is glass-fiber cables - but you would notice that heavily in pricing of the product).
So maybe make a video for the best charging cables (like MacBooks can handle 120w which most cables do not support) and one for the best data cables (they are going to be shorter than 1m then - so between 0.5 to 0.8 m). Makes the most sense financially as well as effectively. A charging cable that is 0.5m is annoying- a data cable that can handle only 5 Gbit/s instead of 10 is also annoying. Moreover, great charging cables (not regarding iPhone as it is 30w only) are hard to find and can get pricey.
What would also be interesting is have they been tested for hazardous chemicals (like ROHS certification) - there is no sense (at least imo) to use a cable that you need to wash your hands after every contact. Especially regarding eating / preparing food after that (and yes at home that should be normal - but still on the go that’s not always possible) or going to bed (like also having the cable in bed etc).
So this would also be something worth looking at in my opinion.
Were all these made for iPhone certified? I know anker typically is. I do appreciate the information I was wondering about this stuff myself. I definitely hate how short the Apple one is 😂
USB 3.1 = USB 3.2 Gen 1 = 5Gbps
USB 3.1 Gen 2 = USB 3.2 Gen 2 = 10 Gbps
One of the reasons why I like to watch this channel is that Monty looks a lot like my dog who had passed away. You are not forgotten Oscar, I still miss you.
Great review as always, thank you! Any advice on the usb c cable for the Apple CarPlay? Preferably the ucb c and lightning to usb 2 :) Challenging, right?
Another awesomely made video, I love watching your reviews over many other because you get right to the problem and tell us the solution.

Excellent channel, amazing video, thank you and I have subscribed!
Great vid! Would love something on charging blocks or just general best charging setups for the 15 Pro
As far as charging the iPhone 15 goes, any compliant USB-C cable will deliver 60W at minimum which is double what the phone will draw, so technically any compliant USB-C cable at all is sufficient. The only limiting factor for charging is the power adapter you're using. Data transfer is what's confusing. The Pro models have USB 3.2 Gen 2 which allows for 10Gbps, but not every USB 3.2 Gen 2 cable is transferring data at that speed from/to an iPhone 15 and I don't think anyone has figured out why yet. There are lots of threads about this on Macrumors and the iPhone subreddit.
EDIT: Just watched the video now that it's available. Thank you for all that testing. Ordered two of those Mophies. Hopefully Apple will clear up the confusion.
Much anticipated your amazing I love my esr magback wallet but please could you have Canadian Amazon links to the specific products.
Great review on these products. I wish you had yet to mention the low price for the Mophi cable since now there's a chance they might raise the price.
Have you tried different cables with the Pro models with the Mac for backups or syncing? I’ve used many 10Gbps recognized cables including an Apple Thunderbolt 3 cable and I’ve never gotten more than USB 2.0 speeds.
Great video, what cable do I get if i dont care about transfer speeds, just charging
Is there any way you can do a 3-5 month update how these are holding up? Obviously you can’t do durability test now but I think durability of a lot of these is something SUPER important aside from them being 2.0 or 3.0. Personally even with my 15 Pro I am one of them that could care less about transfer speeds so yeah, durability is my biggest thing for sure. Been lucky with Anker and if they ever failed me, just contact them and they sent a new one so I know I can rely on them.
Thanks for making the video. Thanks for pointing out the fine details about cables. I will purchase base off your hard work. Using your links of course.
I’ve been waiting for a video like this!!! I have an ignorant question: I ordered the FiFine K688 USB mic for podcasting. When I connect it to my macbook, I need a usb-c to usb-c connection. Do you have any suggestions on the best cable to use for digital voice communications when connecting my mac directly into a USB-c mic?
Great as always. How about a test on USB 3.2 for the iPhone Pro?
Always blowing us away with this solid review content 😎 💪 sending good vibes from Winnipeg!
Thanks for this video. Unfortunately in Australia, I cannot find the Mophie cable at that price on Amazon Australia site or any local sellers, so that Mophie cable is no longer that good value option here.
Right on time with this!! Can’t wait
What was the name of the orange usb c cable you showed at the end?
This is useful, thanks. Atm I am using the usb c cable that came with my iPad Pro m1 as well as a usbc to a cable i got with my DJI gimbal, both have been working out ok, the DJI cable is notably slower, but the charging block I am using is an Anker Gan with 1 USB c port and 1 USB a port.
hey there! great videos! have you reviewed any screen protectors / tempered glasses yet for the 15 pro?
Great video as usual. I have to say that I rely on you for most of my accessory purchases. Love your style, really appreciate your thoroughness especially appreciate the pace of your videos. Well done once again.
Can you do one on powerbanks for the 15? I have the morphie XL which only has lightning cable so need a new one
Would have liked to see ungreen include in your comparison, I have one hub and an HDMI to USB cable and I like both so would like to see how their USB cables are
Im just here to watch Monty be a good boy.
Thank you for providing this information. In the video you said "[you'd] consider [the Anker Powerline III] to be the baseline usb-c cable for anybody running a iPhone 15, NOT pro...". Why would the Anker Powerline III not be suitable for the iPhone 15 pro line? And do you have usb-c cable recommendations for the iPhone 15 pro line? Lastly, would your usb-c cable recommendations vary depending on the length of usb-c cable (3ft vs 6ft vs 10ft) for charging purposes? Thanks again!
iPhone pro can do usb3 but if you’re not worried about data speeds, that cables fine. It does up to 60w which is more then iPhone pro will charge at. There’s other anker cables though like anker flow if you want to use same cable to charge your MacBook. If you care about data you’d want to get Anker 765 cable it’ll do data and 140w
Because of all the strangeness with USB cables I’ve been buying Thunderbolt cables for several years. Now I just buy TB 4 cables. They work on everything at full speeds for both power delivery and transfer speeds. Older TB 3 cables might be a bit slower on charging some very high speed charge devices, but otherwise they’re more obsolescence proof. Yes, they may cost more, but they last much longer too.
@@xPaPaDx people these days thing everything good is cheap. I used to spend over $165 for a scsi cable from Adaptec. In today’s dollars that would be about $300. Did we complain, no.
Your dog is ADORABLE!!! What a great assistant! Hope he's well compensated with RSUs! 😊
Thank you so much for your review. I appreciate your effort
thank you for this video. there are a lot of confusion on USB-C.
I haven't tried these yet, but just wanted to share with you. Enjoying your videos-very informative.
Love your videos. Super informative, thank you!
I would be great to know how you gathered your data for this reviews. How are you testing transfer speeds (download, upload, or both)? What type of 5.5GB file you are using for your test? What are the specs of the computer you are using for test? etc ... I have the Cable Matters USB-C cable mentioned in your review, and it takes my computer (M1 Max MBP, 64GB RAM, macOS Monterey) ~18 seconds to transfer a 4GB video file. Would love to know how you are able to transfer a larger file in 1/3 of the time. Thanks!
That is approx 4000MB / 18 secs = 222 MB per second. So look at what you are reading from and then what you are writing to e.g. hard drives/SSD, a USB stick or some other type of portable storage drive. One of those may be the limiting factor. In some cases how they're attached can also be limiting i.e. a fast SSD drive in a cheap/poor SSD to USB enclosure might not transfer at max speeds, there could be poor quality connections or drivers...everything in the chain needs taking into account not just the cable. As far as I remember he said on another video he is transferring files from some fancy iphone to an NVME drive which can work on the order of thousands of MB per second, and the fact that ANY of his cables can transfer 5.5GB in 6 seconds clearly shows his setup is not a bottleneck (it's basically 10,000Mbps USB 3.x Gen2 speeds). Actually I'm kinda surprised his phone can read files that fast to spit them out the cable and onto the NVME. I don't know anything about iphones do the latest ones use NVME inside? Anyway.....
My two very recent Apple purchases use braided cables. I love them.
Been following you since your iphone 5 days and i am so happy and proud to have seen your growth, I have been an on-off sub for a while but I like seeing the changes and improvements on your videos. I still remember you throwing rocks or pebbles on the Lunatik taktic cases of yesteryears. =)
Monoprice has the best USB-C charging cables that I have ever tried, by far. The physical connection is very snug and secure. My priority is charging speed (100 W, so my laptop can charge) and cable length (10 ft), not USB3 data speeds. I think lots of people would be served far better by those two attributes than transfer speeds they are unlikely to ever use.
Any recommendations for usbc to usba connections for connection to a car that doesn’t have usbc? Thank you
Could you do a review on the Pitaka Magez Slider 2 and Air Omni?
What about charging cable from the old MacBook Pros or iPad Pro? Those are USB C 3.0 right? I mean, if I have those, I dont need to buy another cable for my iphne 15 Pro right?
Can we get a most protective phone case for the 15?
Does the Mophie cable support video output?
Walmart sells the Mophie for $8.99.
It would help a lot if you had indicated how long each cable is. The second time I clicked on the link in this video’s description, the price went up to $11.99.
Thank you, need to update my cables 👍
I recently purchase a set of cables you recommended and they are great. I'm curious if you have ever done a comparison on wall chargers? Just want to make sure I'm getting the most out of my cables when charging my phones and tablets. Thanks again for all your videos, they are most helpful.
Thank you for your very useful video with great links. Take care.
question. What cable is is that big orange one?
Thank you for posting this helpful video!
FYI As of 1 day after you released this video, the Mophie cable's price has increased to $15
which charger adapter do i need for iphone 15? can i use any ? i have one of 35w and 30w but iphone 15 is only 20w
what should i do ?? i dont wanna damage the phone and i wanna do ir properly i dont know which adaptar to use
thanksss
Did you tested Ugreen or Baseus cables?
I love your explanation on things you make great videos with good information !!
I’m coming to you with a question because I need some help!! what is the best way of organizing all your charging cables for different things how can i label them ?
I got the Anker bio braided cable. It is only usb 2.0 but I only use it for charging and will never be doing data transfer. I wonder how it compares to the powerline 3.
Main difference is higher wattage, which unless your using it to charge MacBook Pro 14” or bigger or some windows laptops is irrelevant. I use their flow cables which do 100w so they can charge my MacBook and anything else I own. Bio cable does 140w. Which is over for anything Apple. Usbc can do up to 240w currently
Do you have a Zagg XTR3 review in the works?
Did you try Belkin USB4? Is that good?
Thanks for putting the time into solving one of life's mysteries. :)
I love how the dog in every video looks at him & is like - yeah I know my dad is crazy leave him alone 😂😂
Awesome! I totally followed this. However- is there a particular GAN that has to go with it?
Great video, but I need your help. I need a single cable that supports both USB C and Lightning AND Car Play. Any recommendations?
We appreciate you Aaron.
Worth noting that official apple cases as well as many third party cases have a very small charging cable cutout and so around 50% of usb-c cables won’t fit so you’ll have to ruin the case to make the cutout bigger or take the case off every time you charge your phone.
They make adapters that are usb 4 compliant to get around this problem. I had to order a 2 pack to use with my Apple case.
@@davidgramling9541 dont those adapters slow down the transfer speeds?
I liked the video (and the well dressed dog) Here's what would have made jt better for me: 1. Info about the cost of each cable at the time you were presenting them 2. A final screen, even a text list, of your final recommendations for a 2.0 and 3.0 that I could screencap so I'd have it available when I went to order. Thanks for your thoughtful video
Did you test any metal-clad cables? I need to buy some that are chew resistant.. my pets kill the nylon braided kind.
I find it hard sometimes that amazon gets so many knockoff cables that dont work as they describe. Looking forward to this video.!!
Glad to see Cable Matters in this list. My husband and I stand by this brand - their cables last a long time!! I’ve burned through Anker and various off brand ones.
Great information. I wish I would have watched this before I spent and wasted a bunch of money on different cables…. 😂 Thanks again for sharing. Any recommendations on Lighted charging cables?
What is a good solution so my car can have one cable but can be used for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro? I bought one on Amazon and it literally kills my USB port until I turn the car off/on again and my iPhone stops charging until I turn it off/on again…?
I ordered the Mophie USB-C 3.1 last week, and now I'm glad I did. It was one of the few that listed the USB version. I also got a similar USB tester because I was so annoyed at having USB-C cables that only charge, not to mention how bad Power Delivery makes things since they don't always push 5V 0.5-1A along with v2.0 data on all the time.
I ordered this as well and it doesn’t charge my iPhone 15 pro 🤔
What is the best lightning cable?
Do you have a video talking about a cable's charging control circuits and what's safe for iphone 15?
Are magtame 2.0 with magnetic adapters worth it ? I was planning to get few for charging iphone and lenovo laptop.
Great video. I’d like to see a video on the fastest charging usb-c y-splitter.
I’ve been getting MFI cables from Amazon, random brands but MFI certified. In your opinion does MFI matter or make a difference?
Love your content.
@mobilereviewseh I’m curious if you’re able to test out power adapters.
Best cable I’ve ever had is still the Anker 643 USB-C to USB-C Cable (Flow, Silicone). Never had a single issue with them and they feel awesome. Idk about transfer speeds though as I only use them for charging.
yeah agreed I've bought so many of these cables recently, I don't really care about transfer speeds as I do not think I have ever transferred data off or to to my phone with a wire.
@@cursedrake7975same lol. Nothing beats the feel.
Anker is my go to
Anker has never failed me.
Data speed matters when you need to connect it to an SSD for video recording or you want to connect your phone to an external screen.
Please review TORRAS Rotating ring stand case. It’s the best multifunctional MagSafe case out there.
Would you make a video for Apple Watch series 9 accessories please? Thanks and your videos are helpful and informative.
Cygnett is good brand? i got cygnett in JB HIFI in Australia. its 2.0 cable
Could you test the nintendo switch ubs-c cable?
What’s that frame case for your iPhone 15 ? really wanna know
Can i play movies directly from ssd or usb c flash drive with VLC?
Can you include US amazon links in the description? Definitely wanna support your channel.
So, I snagged myself a Nomad Kevlar USB-C cable recently, really digging its solid build. But, hit a major snag when I tried charging my iPhone 15 Pro Max, which rocks an Apple Silicone case. Turns out, the oval cutout at the bottom of the case doesn’t play nice with the square end of the Nomad cable, blocking it from plugging in. Total bummer! 😑
I'm generally happy with fasgear and amazon basics cables, thanks for testing.
Can I copy this speeds if I move my stuff to a ssd from my 15 pro?
I got an Anker Thunderbolt 4 2.3ft cable from Amazon for 35.99 for my iPhone 15 Pro Max. It's Thunderbolt 4 so it backed up my 600gb in a fraction of the time it used to take with the old Lightning Cable. I use it for anything that requires Thunderbolt 4 speeds on my 14" M1 MacBook Pro.
But what does it do compared to this because i wanna get tb4 but can it even support it i think it’s only 10gbps regardless so it’s throtteled
@@Phaseish I know it’s only only 10GBps but I have other uses for it that take full advantage of the thunderbolt 4 speed. So it’s not just for the iPhone.
@@ADPeguero no i get it I was just asing if the iphone 15 pro max is doing Thunderbolt speeds with that cable or not, but I do think it's throttled, I think this is the cable I am going to get, i am using the cable now that comes with my i pad. works fine with my caldigit .
Can you please do a video for best cables for iPhone 15 pro also
@MobileReviewsEh what did you think about the ahsoka finale?
I’m having trouble with your links. It takes me to multiple anker chargers that are 2.0. Do I want this? Idk anything about chargers. Do you have the exact link to the anker fast charger for the 15 pro max. I’m lost lol
please test type c handfree witch one best for iphone 15 pro max
The links in the description only take me to a search on Amazon o can’t find the Amazon basics cable
What about difference between 60 watt , 100 watt and 240 watt ??
Can you do some reviews on some Baseus products!! Power banks, cables, magsafe etc from Baseus!!
I own the fasgear one and I love it!
Thank you so much for the thorough review, and for listing the top 5 with their links. Appreciate you Eh!
can you rate car mounts?
Didn’t know this about II & III
THX!
I got couple usb 3 gen 2 and the lastest usb 4 for the pro… data speed is crazy fast, i transfered 10 gigs of data literally in seconds.
There are a bunch of 2.6 ft passive USB 4 cables at Amazon that do 40gbps data transfer and can power most laptops, for around 20 bucks. If you get longer than that, data transfers drop to 20gbps or less, unless they’re an active cable. To me these cables should be topping your list.
Do you have a link for me maybe?
This. Like, I got the 40gbps version of Cable Matters for a bit less than $30, so weird to see the 10gbps version featured here at $70. Very odd. Even the active version is still under $70.
@@Lewinium Just look up USB 4. cables. They all list the specs.
Thank you for making all these iPhone 15 videos 🐐
