Hey John.. Catching up on the podcasts, but really like the instructional videos. We don't get much formal training out here in Cheyenne for our little league. You wouldn't happen to have a video regarding two-man positioning and rotation? - Thanks, Mike

Mike, thanks for your support. We are working on some of those right now.

You guys are entertaining (or may I say “edu-taining,” using John’s coined term from one of your earlier podcasts). I’ve been a coach for 16 seasons from LL to HS Baseball and all ages during summer ball. I found your mic’d up game management / Ejection Tutorial video last weekend as it came up in the “Up Next” sidebar in my account... I’ve now watched episodes 1-8 of your Behind the Mask podcasts. I‘m in WA state ... and considering looking into officiating instead of coaching. Where should I start to look for additional training etc. and what baseball age group is recommended for new umpires to get game experience?

I would look into high school officiating - in Minnesota they have a training program, I would guess they have one in Washington as well. www.woa-officials.com/

    Hi John
    Como estás?
I posted this question on another one of your podcast videos. I don't know if you see it respond to questions, so I apologize for asking again. The scenario below happened when I was the plate umpire. My partner was inexperienced and he called time when he should've not done so.
    R2.
Batter-runner hits a base hit to semi-deep left field.
As F7 throws to F4 to try and retire the batter-runner sliding into 2nd base, the ball is a wild throw that ends up in the outfield (right field).
When the batter-runner slides into 2nd the base, the base umpire calls him safe. During the slide the base is dislodged.
The inexperienced base umpire calls time to put the bag back but R2 is half-way between 3rd and home plate.
The offensive coach comes out and tells the plate umpire that because the base umpire called time R2 should not score and he should return R2 to 3rd.
What would you do: return R2 to 3rd or would allow R2 to score?

Checking in from Minnesota - just watched all your podcasts and videos in two days. What suggestions do you have about recruiting and retaining new umpires for the assocation that I'm a part of? Also, when you were younger, did you ever get demeaning comments about your age, because I get them often - I'm 20 and this is my second year of high school varsity baseball.

You're probably one of the better umpires in your area if you're doing varsity ball 2 years out of high school... If its the fans/parents, screw them, if its a coach, follow fed protocol and don't tolerate it

Connor, good for you for doing varsity HS at 20 years old! These questions were so good that we are going to use them on the next podcast! Thanks for your support
