Yes, Thunderbolt was unexpectedly great.
And 8th MS Team too
@@riblo72 That's one of those things that's always endeared 08th MS Team to me. They felt like machines: Tings broke down and needed repairs, logistics and consumables were a concern, they had the slower, slightly ponderous movement you'd expect from a 60-ton walking tank.

Not mentioning Gundam Thunderbolt despite being OVA is such a crime bruh. It's practically War in The Pocket & 0083 of a more modern time 2015s. Mature theme, Adult MCs, the harsh reality of war, etc.
Still waiting a new movie/season of Gundam Thunderbolt, especially when the manga at its final arc.

This is fantastic. Also thanks for showing some clips of Macross Plus.
Fun fact - Manga entertainment put a tagline on the back of the VHS for Macross Plus (which goes to show what an old otaku I am) that ‘MP was the Top Gun of Anime’ I do concur the same applies to 0083
More anime reviews please
Gundam, or any mecha for that matter, gets instant like!
This got buried from my feed and only found by going to your channel. Suppression is real
You sold me so hard on this Gundam, loving the old school anime style. I miss artists having their hands bleed for their art. Passion equals profit
I remember watching this back in the early 2000s during the Adult Swim run. This and 8th MS sold me on Gundam after being mildly interested after seeing Wing a few years back. Especially after a certain national event canceled the original run of 0079 back on Toonami in 2001 and blue balled me the ending for years. It's not all bad since that led me to learning about Bittorrent when it was later invented like two years later and I grabbed every last fansub of UC I could back then.
Yup I always thought CN canceling msg was rather dumb considering that it made no difference on the outcome of that particular event. I even saw it on the news that morning while at school and yet an animated show is somehow worse than that.
This is actually the series that introduced me to Gundam its a badass series and highly recommended for people who haven't watched any Gundam series. I also LOL @ the timeline universe that's actually why I didn't go full throttle on Gundam to many universes with different stories that dont even go together kinda like jojos bizarre adventure.
0083 is fantastic. I love the "boots on the ground" perspective and energy it has, like you said, soldiers who have a mission to complete and just want to get home alive.
This is where It's a Gundam shines, bringing sanity to the madness that is our current 2024. Thank you my brother, we need this more than ever!
As one might imagine from my pfp I am a Macross fan. But UC is the only time line for Gundam. Origin is amazing and I loved Hathaway. I will try Stardust Next.
Dude SERIOUSLY thank you! The Gundam franchise can be SOOOOO intimidating to get into! Thanks for the recommendation! Ill definitely check it out 😊
Glad you mentioned one of my favorite Gundam title (08 MS), I was at the first episode of this series (0083) but haven't got the time to got back since then, I'll give it a swig later, maybe. Nice content as always.
He isn't kidding about the animation. It's like someone told them to go all in but they went even further beyond.
That's OVA for you. Bigger budget, more time, more frames of animation, more drawn details, better visuals. Worth waiting for another episode drops in local video store every few months.

The holy trinity of Gundam: 0083, 0080, and 08th MS Team.
Thank you Gundam. You singlehandedly turned me to both the Gundam series and the kits, which I love making. But something about the shows never entirely clicked with me because it always felt like it boiled down to some kid screaming and making bad decisions because Tomino's space magic told him he loved someone in an enemy mech. But Stardust Memory, ooh baby, that is some peak 90s anime.
0083 has my favorite Gundams of all time. Such a great series.
It's wild that with things like War movies and Star Wars being so popular in the West, mecha anime aren't more popular. Gundam, Macross, VOTOMS, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and Space Battleship Yamato being some major examples of "Star Wars" in Japanese media
8th MS Team was absolutely brilliant. I loved the grounded part of the war, and for some reason I was ignoring Stardust up to now, guess not any more.
Yeah I did like that one too because War ruins the mind on both sides and that show kind of showed it I mean most early gundams showed you that yeah war is terrible.
Stardust Memory has some nice osts
Gundam making a video about Gundam? Preposterous!
Gundam 0083 is fantastic. Gundam 0080 is basically, "Oh, you think war is an adventure? Here's a little taste of it. How do ya like it now?". 08th MS Team happens during the One-Year War - it's set on a Zeon-occupied Earth that somehow *isn't* deep in an impact winter after having a *freakin' colony* dropped onto it only a few months previously. It's a bit rushed in terms of story over its 12 episodes, but it's still a strong series. I agree, these three are peak Gundam for the OVA market.
Thank you for coming to my slightly autistic Ted-talk 😅
Top Gun + Gundam?! You sold me on this series so hard that I immediately went on ebay and bought the DVD before the video ended. Please feel free to do as many recommendation videos like this as possible papa gundam

I'm happy that you're recently talking about positive things instead of being miserable.
The Winner does it's job to hype you up for the show, it's an amazing track!
I don't understand how a franchise like this has failed so hard in the West. The stories are well told, and it's serious tones are phenomenal...
It's the stigma of "Anime is for kids", especially when it comes to the older series.
Gundam is one of those franchises I always wanted to get into but never knew where to start. I am looking forward to more anime recommendations from you, big Papa Gundam!
Look for a short gundam show and try to pick one that is simmlar to your taste in anime or just look for a suit you like the look of and hope there is a show link to that suit. Maybe even look up gunpla/gundam kits of suits or characters. Some suits are from video games. There is always look up some spoilers that make the whole show worth watch still this on is a risk as you might know what happens and feel it not worth watching. My first gundam was gundam fighters G which is 49 eps and nothing to do with any of the time lines of any of the gundam universe. You can't go wrong and give up and try another gundam anime or manga. I might not use the right words as I only got into 18 and still learning but thankfully a rookie can help (search up and there are places on the web that can say where to start maybe /m/). All the best on this quest on this cool world of mecha/giant robot shows/media. You will see a lot of Sieg Zeon!
Well, there's some continuity porn involved, like the Bad Guy Group from _Zeta_ is founded in the coda, but I certainly didn't have any trouble following it as my second _Gundam_ show (after _War in the Pocket,_ another excellent show that's also mostly stand-alone.)
"The UC Universe, the correct universe, the only universe."
This is absolutely correct.
Much love Gundam, thanks for providing quality entertainment for years.
0083 is wonderful but my top spot is The 8th MS Team. The 8th had to me what was the best “average soldier/real war” feel. I 100% agree that’s what made these two stand out. The real icing on the cake is the fight with Norris Packard and his MS-07B-3 Gouf Custom.
Thanks for the recommendation!
Forever and always my favorite Gundam series!
Of course you wait until I'm retired as top admin of Gundam MobileSuitposting to do this.
I'm grateful nonetheless. GM Custom forever. 0083 saved the UC for me in the early Gundam golden era in the early 00s. 80, 83, and 08th are the holy trinity of UC.

Another fun romp with gundam is the Thunderbolt ona's. Two MC's, each on opposite sides of the war, one trying to stand above the conflict but eventually becomes consumed by it, while the other embraces it.
Can never go wrong with more Gundam.
I feel that Gundam is going to try to commit self wood chipper after Witch from Mercury. It seems to be the start of trying to get new/young into Gundam. And bringing in the wrong people like always. Iron Blooded Orphans should have been the direction.
The Greatest Thing about Having a Giant Backlog of the Old Classics when you get a taste for them is that you'll never run out of them because there are so many things from the World of Yesteryear.

Back in my teenage years I preferred anime over Western media. Didn't understand why.
Then I was tricked into disliking it by manipulative people. Once I liberated myself from their lies I returned to anime and understood what I liked about it.
I realized it was better written and didn't have the things I disliked the most from Western media.
happy for you for that friend! I'll be honest the wild and free sexuality in even the action shonen at the time is what drew me in and gave me that "hook" to it, but frankly over time the amount of deeply positive male characters who have the spotlight on them and their journeys and development as men is what kept me locked in.
I'm enlightened now and I can say that the lure of anime was used to manipulate the newer generations into forgetting their western traditions. Anime and manga mimic some western stuff but deep down they are empty. I'm not saying western media wasn't any better but all media is just one brain washing tool to promote hedonism. Unfortunately, I learned about this too late.
Every few years I pop on gundam wing, and have it play in the background as I remember being a teenager again.
I was thinking the exact same thing as you ; watch anime instead of Hollywood. It's no competition.

I remember every Saturday I'd stay up to watched Stardust Memory, being invested. I remember just watching in away as Norris made an absolute MOCKERY of the Karen, Sanders and of Shiro. It was what also solidify my love for the Gouf Custom as my third favorite Zeon mobile suit. And what I loved about all three of those anime was that there were no New-types like It'sAGundam said. It was fair game.
