No he did not. The books in the series did. I've known some tough little guys but the book reads one big bad dude.

why wouldn't you be a fan? he's a fantastic actor and has never made a bad movie.. If it weren't for him Reacher would never have been a movie at all

This opening scene is not even part of the plot of the movie, but it's one of the best scenes in the movie.

All these people wanting to bag out Tom Cruise because he's 5'7" (170cm). I knew an ex Australian Army unarmed combat instructor who was only 175cm and he was the most fearless man I met in 40 years (also my best mate) he could have these monster's on their knees tapping the floor for mercy in seconds. It's knowledge and ticker that determines a person's ability, and this guy had it in spades. In his mid 80's he decided he was going to bust out of hospital, against Doctors orders, and go home. It took six Pacific Islander security guards to subdue him and get him back to his room on a gurney, after he had floored a couple of them first. He's gone now and I will forever be in his debt, as a mentor and a friend. Floyd Mayweather 173cm, Connor McGregor 175cm, Mike Tyson 178cm ? Tell them they must be big to be a good fighter 😂
People have nothing against Tom Cruise. Those who complaint are because in the books, he is 6'5" and described as intimidating just on sight itself.
Tom Cruise don't fit that bill. That's all.

That's not why Reacher being short is an issue. Those of us who read the books years before this series was filmed frequently read about the imposing size of Reacher and aside from being part of the way he was described his sheer size was an integral part of the story and the new site series captures that exceptionally well. Tom Cruise is a great actor. Physically unsuitable for the role unfortunately
I love how martial arts in the movies you have to kick everyone in the head twenty times before they stay down.
Being a badass has little to do with height. Cruise is a real life badass. No other actor would even try to pull off the stunts he does and his acting and fight scenes are many times better than Ritchson’s.

Cruise is a very good actor and yes his willingness to do so many stunts makes things all the better, but Jackie Chan is the lead actor stunt God.

Lucky for Jack Reacher, Sheriff Raymond Wood upon realizing he was about to be arrested for human trafficking and likely sent to jail for the rest of his life, didn't take out his gun and kill Reacher before committing suicide. But if that happened, the rest of the movie couldn't happen. lol
Man like that is to afraid to take his own life. Killing Reacher and run away is a possibility though.

I like Tom Cruise and have seen a bunch of his movies. Love almost all of them, but he's no Jack Reacher. Still, the first Jack Reacher movie he did was pretty good but the second one, not so much. Alan Ritchson is a much better fit for the character and they did a great job on the series.

I like Cruz in his MI movies but he is 5'6" . I'm fan of the Reacher series of books in which the title role is a 6 foot 5 inch 250 pound man. I find it hard to believe the fight scenes with such a small man.

Unfortunately, for the actual Jack reacher character, him being tall and huge, makes it unlikely that people are going to constantly trying to fight him hand to hand. Sorry, that’s a mistake that the author only got away with because it was on paper.

He was waaay too short to be Jack Reacher. The next actor was perfection, looks, voice, attitude, you just knew he could get the job done, shorty-not so much.

For those of us who didn’t read the novel, he made two very watchable movies.
When I watch the clips of your guy, I can’t imagine why people look at him and say I think I can beat him up. To that one aspect Cruse is a lot more believable.

i think tom cruise did an incredible job. a bigger guy just cant move as quickly and fluidly as a smaller guy. im not a tom cruise fan, but i think he was perfect for this role.
