Built in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Soviet army's victory over fascist Germany, the cathedral has become a spiritual symbol of Russia, glorifying the greatest triumph of life over death.
Interesting facts:
- - The steps of the cathedral are made from melted-down trophy weapons of the Wehrmacht!
- - The captivating architecture of the cathedral is executed in the Russo-Byzantine style;
- - Two tiers, height of 96 meters, 5 domes;
- - 18 bells, the weight of the largest one is 18 tons;
- - The complex's area is 11,000 square meters.
The temple has become the most expensive in Russia, with a total budget exceeding 6 billion rubles (over 66.5 million dollars).
The monumental main gates of the complex bear the slogan "Nobody is forgotten, nothing is forgotten."

He went on to say that Russians are the true Christians and Russia is a force of good to the world. Is that how you see it? That Orthodoxy is the true, original Christianity?

I'm looking at this church with the same awe as looking at some architectural wonders of the old world, like Egyptian pyramids, Petra, Mayan temples, Acropolis or something like that. Já conheci as do centro de Moscou (Cristo Salvador e São Basílio), a de Peredelkino, (subúrbio de Moscou), de Vexkhoturie nos Urais, e de Yekaterinburgo (Na Krovi). Every thing deeply attract me from the front pavilion ; the Jade color, the architecture, the masonry, the interior lighting, the acoustics, the ambient, the prayer chanting, the commemoration of the falling heroes and the outside drizzling rain. I have a wonderful memory of visiting the monastery town near Moscow, then called Zagorsk - in early 1990's when times were very hard for Russians .... Now called Sergiev Posad - St Serge Holy Trinity Monastery & Cathedral.
It had started to snow .... and the beauty of the building took my breath away and I had a rare overwhelming sense of great reverence ....
@deecapetown I was in this monastery 10 years ago. I was impressed by what I saw. This monastery has a very rich history. It is much more interesting to visit such places if you first become familiar with the history.
This is absolutely beautiful, witth a part of Russian culture history, spirituality, and history.
