Putin's famous Munich Speech 2007

  • Vladimir Putin's landmark speech on February 10th 2007 at 43rd Munich Security Conference where he openly criticized the US for its striving for a unipolar world, its unrestrained use of force and its disdain for international law. For the first time since the end of the Cold War he made clear that Russia does not intend to fit in this kind of world order. Despite his criticism, Putin didn't seek confrontation but called for a new partnership on a fair basis. The Western mainstream media, however, distorted his speech and portrayed it as a malicious attack. Watch and judge for yourself.

He gave "those warmongers" the benefit of the doubt and time to self-reflect. At the time of this speech, Putin already understood that "those warmongers" were too narrow-minded, blinded by greed, and not capable of putting aside their world's hegemonic ambition, no matter how many people they killed in the process. Putin knew then that he had no choice but to protect Russia's interests militarily.
Today, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian and Russian young men are dead. The so-called "Collective West," aka "those warmongers," has lost its marbles or is demented. For all his period of ruling his Tzardom, he always pointed on bad things that are relevant to his own actions. Now he is "demilitarizing" an already weak country, which had no threads to Russia, and "denazifying" smaller neighbors by using Nazi propaganda methods, rhetorics, and absurd skewing and stretching the historical nonsense written in chauvinistic empire and USSR periods.
In his speech, he cared only about his plans to rule till the death and do the usual empire stuff - bullying and taking over neighbor territories. He started with the Chechen republic of Ichkeria which was already acknowledged by Russia - yet they made provocations and started another "campaign" killing his mentioned hundreds of thousands of people and placing terrorists on the throne of the territory which is not under the Kremlin's control - they reconstructed medieval relationships like they were between Tzardom and Cossacks. Chechens are vassals, who live as they want, but pay with their meat when needed. Russia politically is back in the 16th century, but in many areas where still no gas pipes and sewage - they are also physically in medeval. It is degrading...and fast. And he talks like that only because he has nukes - otherwise, this is mostly an unpopulated state with a population smaller than Nigeria with the same development level.
He refuses to care about the development of the country. He has his "gas station", the covering gang, people silenced - everything sorted.
All his rhetorics are bout other reasons for their problems. And people grew on this culture of blaming everyone except themselves. What can You expect, except criminality of mentality in a huge part of the population?

These promises were blatently disregarded, causing Russia to have well founded and justifiable security concerns, leading to a complete breakdown in trust with the West.
The outbreak of the war in Ukriane was predictable. NATO paved the way for this war. The organisation that we put our faith and trust in to keep peace in Europe has failed us all.

Russia responded militarily to an attack by Georgia, which was entirely a) legal and b) expected---you would probably defend yourself too if attacked. What remains remarkable to me ---especially when compared to actions another superpower has accustomed us to---was the restraint and intelligence of the response: it was over in a a matter of days, with very few casualties, effectively ended the civil war and the senseless loss of life that had been plaguing Georgians for years, and then... the Russians just LEFT (haha some invasion!) Not only did they leave, they DISMANTLED their old Soviet military bases that still remained in Georgia. So essentially they came, saw, ushered in peace, disarmed and left Georgia to its free elections (and US-trained president Sakashvili ). Compared to aggressions of choice (not defensive) which flout international law (Kosovo) to instigate and extend conflict (Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan... ), only to end in expropriations and installation of puppet regimes and military bases (largest in Europe, in the case of Kosovo), I wonder which better illustrates for you an attachment to "peace, rule of law and prosperity" for all

One of the few politicians who stay consistent over such a long period of time. He's the one who wanted to join the Western alliances after the fall of the Soviet Union. Why did we say no ?
We're reaping what we sown. The US has always wanted a total win against Russia, they never moved on from the Cold War. They cannot tolerate any form of counterpower, they want that unipolar world with the US at its helm. The current war in Ukraine could be over tomorrow if the US were serious about it and about peace. But they keep fueling this war, at the expense of Ukrainian lives and cities. And if it goes on, they'll throw Europeans into the mix.

But I wouldn't say Putin is anti-Europe, he's just against what the EU has become.
If EU was what it claims wanting to become, which is a real European alliance that could compete with China and the United States, then I'm sure Russia would be all for joining such a thing.
But right now the EU is just an American administration, so there's no point. It would just act as a cancer that would seek to destroy Russia from the inside.
The EU would be so competitive if it pursued such a goal. Having the military might of Russia coupled with their natural energy supply, it would be a great asset for such a union. But alas, EU politicians sold us to foreign powers for a quick buck.

According to my experience (I am 40) In Russia we are focused on our selfs , but when we get in any conflict of interests, our first offer is always the best. Bcoz we respect people. If the opponent denies the fist offer, every offer he gets will be much and much worse. Putin is a typical Russian, and this was his first offer. It was fair and full of respect. He is not honest, and is a manipulator.
Putin talks about Russian interests being ignored and how NATO has expanded. The thing you people forget is that countries desired to join NATO and did so because of Russia's historical tendencies. Countries like Poland and Czechia wanted so much to join NATO that their leaders basically threatened to travel to the US and campaign for the Republican Party to their respective diasporas, to pressure Bill Clinton and the US government, which was AGAINST the integration of these countries into NATO. Ask yourselves why these countries wanted to join NATO. Why? Because Russia and eventually the USSR would force these states to join it directly or as puppets, and these countries were violently oppressed for decades, or in the case of Poland, over a century.
Russia even had the opportunity to integrate with the West and join it. Why did they refuse? "George Robertson, a former Labour defence secretary who led NATO between 1999 and 2003, said Putin made it clear at their first meeting that he wanted Russia to be part of western Europe. “They wanted to be part of that secure, stable prosperous west that Russia was out of at the time,” he said. The Labour peer recalled an early meeting with Putin, who became Russian president in 2000. “Putin said: ‘When are you going to invite us to join Nato?’ And [Robertson] said: ‘Well, we don’t invite people to join Nato, they apply to join Nato.’ And he said: ‘Well, we’re not standing in line with a lot of countries that don’t matter.’” Russia, as it always has, has not viewed other countries as equal to it, and has refused to take their interests or decisions into account, and refused to follow the protocol all countries have to follow to join NATO.
Russia's invasion is not justified in any way, and is itself a product of Russia's own behavior. The war started because Russia, as always, does not take into account the right of countries to determine their foreign policies and futures, just like Russia denied Ukraine its right to have a revolution and remove their corrupt head of state that went against their wishes for increased ties to the EU. Had Russia offered attractive alternatives to Western integration, respected Ukrainian territorial integrity, and respected Ukraine's sovereignty, none of this would have happened. Countries join NATO because Russia makes joining NATO attractive, a and being neutral unattractive. Before Ukraine was attacked, it did not want to join NATO, and could not join NATO. The population was divided and the majority did not support it, and countries like France and Germany, seeking to appease Russia (because appeasement has of course, always worked), opposed Ukrainian membership. The populations of Sweden and Finland also did not support joining NATO. Why did they decide to abandon centuries or decades of neutrality? Because of Russia. Russia is solely to blame for this war and the state of Russian and Western relations.

@@Nick-ov8ed all countries are sovereign until they cannot defend themselves, Ukraine pissed Russia off, Russia is inevitably going to win. Ukraine had multiple chances at making peace and (with the help of European and American politicians) spat in Russia's face. Perhaps you need to watch this speech again? China is taking over the US slowly and peacefully, I believe Russia would do the same if it could but the fact that it had to go to war means that war was the only option.

The current situation, is nothing new for mr Putin, everything was foreseeable and unfortunately happened. Thank god the Russians are well prepared and very sane to handle any situation. Since those times the west leadership got more and more corrupt, and the east developed. Now is the time of prosperity in the east and south!!! 🇷🇺❤️

Beautiful speech. In the light of what happened it was a very accurate analysis. I watched the English translation with Putin's voice. I didn't know he was so fluent in English. I knew about his impeccable German. He is one of the very few world leaders with a perfectly working brain. Another one is Lavrov. I stand with Vladimir!
