    brian's recorded voice on the early lp's - unmatched- anywhere, imo. "girls on the beach" - on a summer day...omg!

    When Brian is engaged he has one of the most wonderfully expressive voices

      Yeah, I just finished reading David Leaf's biography of Brian (2022 edition) and that's one of the main things I learnt. Brian's voice wasn't that bad after the 60s, he just often wasn't bothered and discarded his falsetto partly to attain a more mature image.
      Listen to the SMiLE concert in 2004 and you'll find out that he still had it

    Brian does pretty good here! What strikes me more about this mix, though, is the production seems less... awful. Keepin' The Summer Alive suffered more, I think, from the milquetoast production than it did from the writing (Brian could, can, and always will turn out a beautiful melody). This has a lot more bite than the released mix.

    Carl’s vocal lead on this song is pure perfection. Brian can’t do it justice.

    Are these the same lyrics as the released version?

    • @Providence..
      @Providence.. Před 3 lety +7

      No, there's some notable differences, hard to describe in text, but the first verse is not in the released version, the chorus is the same, there's two extra lines in the bridge after the first singing of the chorus, etc.

    • @Allthisisthat31
      @Allthisisthat31 Před 5 lety +14

      Actually, both songs are called "Oh Darlin' though they are indeed very different songs. As we all know, the Beach Boys hit "Darlin' sung by Carl is a completely different (and wonderful) song.

    • @blossomgardner2297
      @blossomgardner2297 Před 5 lety +3

      However, this isn't their hit Darlin', which was originally intended to be a Brian solo record.

    • @GoodGamer3000
      @GoodGamer3000 Před 4 lety +26

      There's:
      -"Darlin'" from _Wild Honey_ (1967), by the Beach Boys
      -"Oh! Darling" from _Abbey Road_ (1969), by the Beatles
      -"Oh Darlin'" from _Keepin' the Summer Alive_ (1980), by the Beach Boys *(This song)*
