      Scotty Kilmer I have two of the $10-20 ones and, at least in my experience, it does all of this same stuff. What makes the difference is the software used. Sure, you don’t get all the recall info and specs but in a pinch I can find that stuff online.
      I’ve been using the Android app “Torque”. It even has the ability to scan through all possible PIDs, even finding a lot of the ones that are “hidden” by the manufacturer. Now, it takes a lot of work to figure out how to use the data that’s coming in once you find those hidden PIDs, but I was still impressed with the feature.
      I’m sure the BlueDriver one is great, but for those of us that are broke as hell, the $10-20 ones work fantastically for the price. I’ve had both (an iPhone and Android one) for almost two years now with no problems.

I replaced a bad ABS front speed sensor because of the code I was getting and recommendations in the app...With the replacement part I got similar error about a week later, but it was saying the same sensor was dirty instead of bad - turned out the replacement sensor was bad. Another new sensor and codes cleared and went away! Saved me tons of money instead of taking it to the stealer - er dealer... even after buying 2 sensors and the blue driver I was out $180. Dealer wanted $400. It’s since paid for itself a few times over!

    I have had one of these for quite some time now. 5 or 6 yrs. They do way more than $100 dongle you buy at the local parts shop. Live data is nice, saves reports for printing or viewing later, and give details on how common the fault is and what the most common solutions are. Its not a professional tool, it lacks the ability to command different systems and pull air bag codes (though it can pull air bag codes on some vehicles I suspect licensing issues) Great tool for the diy or backyard mechanic, I do not regret spending the $100 on this at all.

    If you have a Lexus, Toyota or Scion you can buy the factory techstream software on a disc and a usb obd2 cable for about $30 on ebay. You can do live function tests and adjust setting that only dealers could. It also read abs, air bag, transmission, engine and body codes as well. Best $30 I have spent.

      Eman 08 True but the Chinese ones do almost all what 500$ devices do except the reflashing ECUs which u hv to pay more $$ to toyota each time you need to use that service even if u already paid 500$!! i never heard a hacked techstream damaged any car entire electrical system🤤🤤

    • @Shwalker07
      @Shwalker07 Před 6 lety +4

      A lot of older earlier versions had malware & problems but the later version I bought did not. I thought the same skeptical way as you did but it is the full software and I scanned the disc for malware/viruses before I installed anything. Nothing was ever damaged nor did I receive false readings on my Lexus GS300 and I have used this software and USB cable on about 20 different Toyota and Lexus vehicles. Program new keys, read engine/air bag codes, change climate program settings, live function tests of actuators, live data of sensors plus sooo many more features I have personally customized and gone through. Why go to the dealer and let them charge you almost $100 for personalizing certain features when you can do it yourself at anytime for a third of the price? The only thing it can not do is reflash ECU's but if you can not admit for $30 you get what your $500 device can mostly do then your crazy. I am glad I sold my Snap-On Solus just in time too because I knew all these knockoffs were going to take over for other vehicle makes as well and they are only going to get better in time...

    Ha! I didn't even know Scottie endorsed this before I bought one. I compared data from this to my friends 2 year old SnapOn Solus and the bluedriver actually gave me more info thru the OBD ports than the SnapOn. Of course with the SnapOn there are more adapters for proprietary dealer adapters but as for standard OBD2 this thing is the best.
    For example, my 98 Nissan Altima is OBD2 but it also has the proprietary Nissan connector. The bluedriver read more than the SnapOn scanner did. Even after I invested in the proprietary adapter for the SnapOn expecting to learn more info about my cars problem it still didn't offer as much info as the bluedriver. So needless to say I'm impressed

    I have this Blue Driver & let me tell you, it's AWESOME!!! when i got a "check engine" light i used it to see what codes were in it. & then once i find the codes i screenshot it & then see the other info. I love clicking on the smog check & mode 6 for more info on the car.
    I helped out my friends cars & my family's car just by using this scan tool. Best part cuz it works through bluetooth u can use your phone & tablet.
    Last time when i used it for the check engine light i saw the codes, then rather than clearing it i decided to just go to our mechanic & screenshot the codes i got.
    He used his real scan tool & let me tell u this, it READ THE EXACT SAME CODES from my Blue Driver. i went "i dont need a 3,000 scan tool when mine can read the same codes for 100$
