Medication is not the only way that you should treat your high blood pressure. Many times through lifestyle changes like diet and exercise as well as managing your stress you can make a big impact on controlling it. I would never take it again. It caused me so much pain in my swollen feet and ankles. Some days I couldn't even walk. I went on a whole foods diet and lost 35 lbs in 7 months but was off amlodipine in just one week just by changing my diet under my doctor's care. Lots of leafy greens and vegetables, no sugar, no flour, no vegetable oil and my triglycerides dropped 115 points. In one week. BP is normal now usually under 120 over 80 most days.

I tried alternative ways of reducing my blood pressure, drinking beet juice and listening to calming music etc. All without success. Strangely, my low readings often follow work in the garden. I put my feet up for a while after midday lunch, and again after evening meal, and that helps reduce swollen ankles, and yoga breathing exercises help reduce general stress as well as apparent better BP readings. 5mg Amlodopine does the trick for me although readings do fluctuate, and occasionally cause nausea which soon goes away if I turn my attention to something else.

@@youngnurse9994 , I'm glad that you have your blood pressure under control. Also, I am happy to hear that you're watching your sodium intake. I'm sure that your heart rate was three digit as well.
I know why my blood pressure was dangerously high back in October 2020. When I went to the doctor on November 09th, the young lady check it three times to make sure she was correct. I also told her please don't take another reading because it was making it worse. Everytime she blew up the cuff it was squeezing the hell out of my arm. When I walked into the exam room to check my vitals, I told her that my blood pressure was to the roof. After she was done with taking my vitals I told her once I explained everything to her that she was going to understand.
My daughter and her husband was blessed with the birth of their first baby boy. He was also my first grandson. Due to the pandemic shutdown. My son and his family and myself couldn't be out there when he was born. We just patiently waiting until Thanksgiving. Thursday night on October 08th around 9:15 pm my son called and said that the baby was rushed to the hospital because he was found unresponsive. And he was on a ventilator. ( Long pause ) my son made all of the arrangements to get to Kansas City Kansas ASAP. He died on Sunday October 12th @ 9:55 p.m.
After I return home and still reeling from losing my grandson. Thursday October 29th before day break the storm caused damages to my house. Two trees landed on the edges of the roof, power outage and debris. The hurricane just devasted this southern region. Power companies as far away as Canada, Wisconsin and North Carolina. Therefore because of all of that is why my blood pressure was dangerously high. I'm still having problems with the grieving process. He was only three months old and I never got a chance to hold him. I have to be strong for my daughter. Day by day is what I have to do now.

Thanks Doctor. I've been on Amlodipine for two years now and I tolerate it well. My PCP first prescribed the lowest dose of Lisinopril, but it was WAY TOO STRONG for me. I was running to the bathroom having to urinate about 20 times a day. Sometimes I didn't make it in time ! The other side effect was an irresistible craving for salt ! Saltines, pretzels, Bloody Marys, potato chips. I had NEVER desired those edibles before. Everyone's system is different. Always work with your physician..

I had taken this med for about 6 months when one leg was swelling with pitting edema midcalf. I'm very active, certainly no blood clot symptoms & as an RN for 40 years I was bummed when my doc put me on it for hypertension. My sister had both of her legs swell with pitting edema while at the coast, same thing. Via both of our doctors, it was the Amlodipine. There are plenty of other antihypertensives to take, we both take Candasartin now without any problems. Amlodipine as a first choice for hypertension seems outrageous to me.

Does it have less side effects than Warfarin? My father was on Warfarin before he died and he use to constantly have problems with bleed badly from a little skin tear and lots of bruising. Does Eliquis have these same issues?
