Monitoring your blood pressure at home is a critical element to keeping your blood pressure under control. When it's high you typically don't have symptoms and oftentimes when you come see me you get nervous and your blood pressure goes up. It's very helpful if you are taking it on a regular basis at home so we can tell if we need to make some adjustments. Here are a few options in blood pressure monitors that can help you with this:

Excellent explanation well understood.thanks doc.
My uncontrolled blood pressure destroyed my kidneys. Had the transplant in 2018, have been on Amlodopine twice a day ever since.
Have been on it for 12 years. Great medicine.
I had debilitating lower leg spasms for three months nightly, had to sleep in a recliner. Doctor took me off it and I have not had a problem since.
Thanks for sharing, it was informative 👍🏾

Very impressive. Thank you
extremely helpful information.
Oh.. Thank you doc, so much for the information... I get it...
I would never take it again. It caused me so much pain in my swollen feet and ankles. Some days I couldn't even walk. I went on a whole foods diet and lost 35 lbs in 7 months but was off amlodipine in just one week just by changing my diet under my doctor's care. Lots of leafy greens and vegetables, no sugar, no flour, no vegetable oil and my triglycerides dropped 115 points. In one week. BP is normal now usually under 120 over 80 most days.
I’ve been on this stuff for a month and my ankles and legs are swelling . I’m freaking out .
Tben4433 your bp remains normal without any medication even now ??
That side effects are usually dose related. Did you try to take lower doses?
Worked great for me

Horrible medication I felt it was burning my whole body plus l felt my heart was stopping I went to emergency and my blood pressure was to high even with the medicine and that horrible feeling of passing out

It’s been a great prescription so far for my fiancée
I was on that for 8 years after I got my aortic valve replaced. Then I had to get a pacemaker last year. The docs took me off that and metoprolol and I was on lisinopril only. My blood pressure is high again, and now I'm back on both meds. I have not gained weight, but I've not lost any either. I am a FIRM believer in maintaining weight. Not going the Yo-Yo route. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!
Thank you for the advice
Have been on this med. Got off it now I'm pleased to say. All the long term meds I've experienced have had bad side effects. Good plant based diet + exercise the best way to escape the medical doctors drugs!
Couldn't agree more, unfortunately many aren't willing to do that. Certainly even with that there are some that may still need something but if the majority would change their lifestyle then we wouldn't need to talk about these things as much. Thanks for watching!

Very useful information Doctor, love from India.
Thank you so much good information 😊
I haven't had a headache since I took Amilodipine
Dr. Richardson, I thank our "Lord" for you. You just calmed all my concerns surrounding this medication. Thank you Sir.
Thank you again Sir for all the great good that you perform.
Dr. Richardson, since my last very positive comment to you, I am now back on Amlodipine. Sir I feel wonderful again. I believe that I personally feel so much more functional with a good BP reading.
thank you good source of information..
My Cardiologist just prescribed AMLODIPINE, i need to take it for 30 days and do a follow up in June.
Tested twice by withdrawing use or reducing dosage and did confirm Amlodipine causes excess daytime fatigue and drowsiness in me. I have not overcome this side effect, and 2 to 3 naps a day is unacceptable...it's killing my productivity. It's good at lowering numbers, but does seem to lower Diastolic more.
I take amlodipine and lisinopril both are really good too me. I never had any side affect at all..
I am on multiple drugs for hypertension. Mine is of the variety called isolated systolic (top number) hypertension.
There is no better medication out there to treat this condition. My number is consistently 115/70. I’ve had my upper number as high as 195. This medication is a godsend for me. As an added bonus, it has a long half life which keeps my blood pressure on an even keel.
Thanks for the info
I tried alternative ways of reducing my blood pressure, drinking beet juice and listening to calming music etc. All without success. Strangely, my low readings often follow work in the garden. I put my feet up for a while after midday lunch, and again after evening meal, and that helps reduce swollen ankles, and yoga breathing exercises help reduce general stress as well as apparent better BP readings. 5mg Amlodopine does the trick for me although readings do fluctuate, and occasionally cause nausea which soon goes away if I turn my attention to something else.
I drink beet juice 2
Also health food has a mixed vegetable drink too
I started taking this medication a month ago.
They put me on 5 mg first.
Then they changed it to 10 mg.
So far , so good with no problems at all ! 😁
Thanks for the video!
Good luck to all who take it and I pray that it will work for you with no problems.

I just started taking this medication on November 09th 2020. My blood pressure was three numbers over three numbers and with a heart rate of 135 bpm. Taking this medication has helped me a lot.

I really watch my sodium intake now!!

@@youngnurse9994 , I'm glad that you have your blood pressure under control. Also, I am happy to hear that you're watching your sodium intake. I'm sure that your heart rate was three digit as well.
I know why my blood pressure was dangerously high back in October 2020. When I went to the doctor on November 09th, the young lady check it three times to make sure she was correct. I also told her please don't take another reading because it was making it worse. Everytime she blew up the cuff it was squeezing the hell out of my arm. When I walked into the exam room to check my vitals, I told her that my blood pressure was to the roof. After she was done with taking my vitals I told her once I explained everything to her that she was going to understand.
My daughter and her husband was blessed with the birth of their first baby boy. He was also my first grandson. Due to the pandemic shutdown. My son and his family and myself couldn't be out there when he was born. We just patiently waiting until Thanksgiving. Thursday night on October 08th around 9:15 pm my son called and said that the baby was rushed to the hospital because he was found unresponsive. And he was on a ventilator. ( Long pause ) my son made all of the arrangements to get to Kansas City Kansas ASAP. He died on Sunday October 12th @ 9:55 p.m.
After I return home and still reeling from losing my grandson. Thursday October 29th before day break the storm caused damages to my house. Two trees landed on the edges of the roof, power outage and debris. The hurricane just devasted this southern region. Power companies as far away as Canada, Wisconsin and North Carolina. Therefore because of all of that is why my blood pressure was dangerously high. I'm still having problems with the grieving process. He was only three months old and I never got a chance to hold him. I have to be strong for my daughter. Day by day is what I have to do now.

I am so very sorry for your loss.
I can see why your blood pressure went up !
It seems like when it rains it pours .
I pray that the Lord will give you strength to be there for your daughter . And that HE will help you keep your blood pressure down.
They say , things will get better over time . The hurt and pain may always be there , but when you ask God for strength, HE will do just that if you put your trust and faith in HIM .
I shall keep you and your entire family in my prayers.

Thank you Doctor very much
Thank you for explaining doctor ankle swelling I find distressing doc has taken me from ten back Down to five and added. A water tab
Thanks Doctor. I've been on Amlodipine for two years now and I tolerate it well. My PCP first prescribed the lowest dose of Lisinopril, but it was WAY TOO STRONG for me. I was running to the bathroom having to urinate about 20 times a day. Sometimes I didn't make it in time ! The other side effect was an irresistible craving for salt ! Saltines, pretzels, Bloody Marys, potato chips. I had NEVER desired those edibles before. Everyone's system is different. Always work with your physician..
It helps me few times gets stuck in my throat it felt like it was gonna burn a hole in my throat
I had taken this med for about 6 months when one leg was swelling with pitting edema midcalf. I'm very active, certainly no blood clot symptoms & as an RN for 40 years I was bummed when my doc put me on it for hypertension. My sister had both of her legs swell with pitting edema while at the coast, same thing. Via both of our doctors, it was the Amlodipine. There are plenty of other antihypertensives to take, we both take Candasartin now without any problems. Amlodipine as a first choice for hypertension seems outrageous to me.
Thankyou good info my lower legs and ankles swell every day after setting to long I put pressure socks on all day been taking amlodipine for about ten yrs
Is it possible to elevate your legs while sitting “too long”, recliner, foot stool?? You’ve been on it 10 years, when did swelling start??
Thanks Dr appreciate it much u made me feel better about this medication
