  • As Bet struggles to raise funds to buy the pub it's looking like the end of her days behind the iconic bar at the Rovers Return.

    The soul of the show died when Bet left. She was so important to the canvas and her loss was just irreplaceable.

    Such a big loss when Bet left, she really was something special in the street. The shoulder pads and glam was brilliant but people forget she was a great actress

    "It's what my public expect". Bet became very regal once she became the landlady of the street.

      She commanded respect like Annie Walker, minus the airs and graces that Annie would put on......

    Liz asked for a packet of Winchester cigarettes in the cabin and Rita gave her 20 Benson & Hedges.

    Sarah Lancashire was well fit back then ,ohh time is a cruel mistress.

    • @shanefolan
      @shanefolan Před 4 lety +1

      She wasn't really though;she was just plastered in make up/well made up by the make up department, looked very glamorous,dressed very well and was blonde with nice hair etc. But if you look at her face-it really wasn't attractive-masculine jaw and not all that attractive. Compare her to street beauties like Samia Ghadia, Michelle Keegan or Alison King[in her younger days] and Sarah Lancashire doesn't compare.
      Plus back in 1995 with the exception of Tracey Shaw the actresses were generally all average looking women and none were really glamorous looking so Lancashire stood out more in that aspect as she was made up much better than her colleagues. Corrie in the past 15 years though has had much younger and attractive actresses than in the 90s.
      After she left the street she starred in that 'Where the Heart is'[only less than 2 years after this] and all the glamour was gone and she looked very average looking. Even look at Raquel in her final months in 1996 in Corrie when the character was not as made up and you can see she was very average looking.

      i personally think sarah lancashire is well cute, shes a natural blonde, got a lovely nose, kind eyes and straight teeth ,
      shes the spitting image of sinead dont u think?

    • @shanefolan
      @shanefolan Před 4 lety

      @@freddiemeyer4563 Perhaps she had something to her but to call her ''well fit'' is a bit much when she wasn't. She was written like the femme fatale of the show too and was a model which looking back is quite laughable.

      @@shanefolan beauty is in the eye of the beholder ...u should see some of the people i get told by freinds that are ' fit' and i see them and think 🤮
      it depends on your taste
      i like tall blondes with big noses
      but i see your point a litte, shes not as typically beautiful as alison king

      @@freddiemeyer4563 ''beauty is in the eye of the beholder''
      Research has largely disproved that though in that still the majority of us are attracted to the same type of people- which likely is why the Michelle Keegans, Brad Pitts and Cindy Crawfords of the world are so appealing as we all recognise the elusive beauty traits there. Or why the young Meg Ryans and young Tom Cruises sold their films so well etc.
      It also explains why so many sex symbols and box office draws end up looking the same because casting directors knows who will sell well [Brad Pitt/young Robert Redford, Jennifer Aniston/young Barbara Streisand, Courtney Cox/Demi Moore, Kathleen Turner/ Lauren Bacall, Michelle Pfeiffer/ Cameron Diaz, Matt le Blanc/Tony Danza, Matt Damon/Mark Wahlberg etc]......
      I watched a documentary on this once and it showed how recognizing physical beauty is pretty hard wired to the brain and that we all look for similar things. Two young babies were put in front of screens and shown two faces;each time the baby will stare at the more attractive faces surveys and scientists would deem as more attractive . Science says it is perfect facial symmetry and so on. Or that we are typically drawn to bodies with low fat/higher muscle and height for men while numerous studies show men like women who are smaller and have good breasts etc.
      And yes I see your point that tastes still remain different but the fact remains that as animals we are all wired to seek out the fittest of the species for reproduction so that ultimately we end up going for the same desirable qualities in seeking a partner with our primitive brain. The reality is that though demand is much greater than supply and that most of us are average looking and lack the look of the sex icon and then so we ultimately will look for other qualities in partners. In essence, physical beauty needs to be overlooked for many of us in seeking partners as it's not a realistic target to seek a David Beckham or Jennifer Lopez as our partner.
