  • Hello Shiny Crafty People and welcome back to the channel!
Today I'm adapting a design I saw for a small ring box at the Japanese pavilion at EPCOT (the Disney theme park in Orlando) into a larger round box for my sewing notions!
You can really make this with any size box you want, but I used a very inexpensive cardboard container from the Dollar Tree.
Here's the materials and tools you will need:
1 Small box (I got mine for $1.25 at the Dollar Tree)
1 matching lid or material to make a ring (I use the lid that came with the box)
Fabric (I used two fat quarters)
    Matching thread
    Sewing machine
    Cutting implements
    Measuring tape or square
To work out this project, it took me about 30 minutes. However, if I was making several of the same size, I think I could make these in 15 minutes or less. Of course, you can spend more time getting details exact or go as fast as me if quantity is your goal.
I hope you enjoyed this exercise! Until next time, stay crafty!

I literally paused the video and stared off into space at the brilliance of folding the fabric to cut the square. That is an excellent tip! And such an interesting way to make the bottom, too. The whole thing looks creative and fun to make. It's a two-in-one sort of project; it can be a gift bag and a bonus gift at the same time.

My Aunt used to make these out of 3 gallon cardboard ice cream tubs. She would fasten a large button on each side and afix a carry handle of matching fabric and they were our overnite luggage as kids in the 60s. I could fit everything in there I needed and we called them 'twist bags'. Thanks for posting!

In keeping with your chemo shirt. I put zippers into the pant legs of amputee's so they can fit their prosthetic easier, and wear jeans again with their leg. Works on all pants, no special prep required, just need an 18 to 22 inch zipper, for dress pants I like invisible zippers. Then just open the seam of the pant, and about two inches both sides of the hem, pin/paste/clip the zipper, putting the opening side at the bottom, then sew it up like any other zipper insertion. Done. forty bucks,

My grandmother had this type of box made with silk, to keep her fancy handkerchiefs.

I am heavily into recycling so I plan to experiment with this concept using tin cans. I think I will try making the rings from strips cut from 2-liter bottles (cut crosswise, then snip and overlap ends to fit) after I cut off the upper bottles to use as funnels.
I feel a math adventure coming on!

Cake frosting cans also work. I get cream cheese cake frosting at the dollar tree to make peanut butter fudge, and the cans are sturdy white plastic under the label, so they sit very well for this project. Rings can be made from cracker and cereal boxes, or cut from *used* USPS packaging. It is a federal crime to use new USPS packaging fir other things, but the used packaging is pretty good quality for repurposing. My grandmother had these boxes made with her hand embroidered fabric cover. They were containers for her hankies, but the box also makes a very cute basic sewing kit.

That is very similar to a thread catcher that quilters have made for years. The top is an embroidery hoop and the bottom is two cardboard circles. It’s called the collapsing thread catcher. Great idea to use a box for the bottom! Going to try it. Would the zipper foot help sew the ring in?

I’m going thru my storage, looking for a suitable base! Already have my fabric. I’m going to make a matching set of a thread catcher and container! Thanks for the good idea and how to info!
