My cousin did this to me in the 8th grade. Worked great. Went from batting around .300 to batting above .450. He must've been onto something cuz he had 2 sons get drafted and make it past double a
I’ve noticed this trend a lot recently. A lot of people love to create this big load and have a huge power stroke type swing, a lot of kids always start like that, maybe because catching up with little league pitching isn’t an issue. But it’s just not ideal for making a lot of contact. Just go straight to the ball
That Japanese hitters understand this very well, look at Othani, Suzuki, Yoshida, or Murakami. Those guys have their hands set off their body in a ready swing position just to drop and unload on the ball. Pretty cool to see the difference in Japanese vs other countries stances
Yes. this is my teaching technique since 1987. I call it "Taking the hitch out".....always reminding to keep the nose down. This gains time to see pitches as well.
Good tip. Just making it easier to get in rhythm with the ball. I’m only 7 but I’m so dedicated to this sport…. Any tips I can learn from the pros then I’m ALL EARS.
You’re already heading in the right direction. Always stay coachable and open to positive criticism. And try your best to emulate/copy all your favorite pros. @@benjamindague-classicalgui764the pitch clock sucks. Baseball was never meant to have a pitch clock. The only reason they have it is to cater to casuals who have the attention span of a peanut.
Daughters first time playing all stars. Coming from rec league she has never faced anything in mid to high 40s. Slowly but surely with us watching you videos we have managed to move forward with quickness little by little. You're teachings are true testaments and it works.
I did that when i was young and my coach kept trying to "correct me" but it ruined my batting % so luckily he allowed me to do it my way in the name of if it works for me it woks for me. Now is best for everyone..
The stride step has no benefit to the swing itself. It's all about timing and rhythm. Unfortunately, timing is the main cause of many issues in the swing. A lot of young hitters also tend to prematurely shift their weight forward with the step, losing power in the swing. I always recommended the "post-stride" technique, or what I personally did was start with an open stance and then step into a loaded stance. It kept my weight back and wound up while allowing me to be set early enough that timing would stay consistent no matter the pitch.
I remember having a coach in All Stars during Little League that broke that down to us, he said no matter what all of these Major League players have these fancy stances but they're all coming to the same place strike the ball. Such a good blessing I don't know why granderson is teaching it though he used to hit like .225
And ball players are always encouraged that ‘it doesn’t matter where you start, as long as you get to where you need to be’. My hitting coaches growing up altered my stance to where my hands were already positioned at the “load point” like CG and Judge are explaining. Very uncomfortable for someone who prefers to position their hands more freely so it takes a lot of reps for it to feel natural but the results are undeniable once you adopt it. This technique is almost mandatory for players with low read-n-react skills or naturally slows hands
Yes. It’s a lie. They aren’t hitting from “there”. They all have to use some sort of loading mechanism and mostly it’s hands back and slightly up. We need to stop telling kids loading to hit the ball is bad!!
@@chadrides914 you dont watch must baseball do you? Stances change depending on the count. If its the first pitch, yeah, hes loading up. If its a full count, you are gonna see what we are seeing in this video.
Pujols did this and I idolized him as a kid. I hit lead off because I always got bat to ball at a young age. I always thought that his stance was important for that.
Judge still had a leg lift. If you remove your leg lift or toe tap you lose a lot of power from the transfer of weight and gravity of placing your foot down
practice practice practice. pro hitters have been playing since they were 5 or 6 years old some even younger. it doesn’t mean that your technique doesn’t work
I completely agree with goblue. Quick question -- are you pulling off the ball? With this technique, if you pull off/away from the plate, you're going to struggle with low and/or outside pitches.
Set the ball up on the low tee and keep swinging. It takes a while to truly feel the hinge and snap. I have a feeling you’re maybe not letting the ball travel feel enough, because I had this issue too.
The key take-away here is he would sway allowing his head to move forward. The barrel isn't snapped back first then twist. There is a sequence in the swing working from th ground up.
This is an honest questions no just for me to learn but would doing what their doing in the video make me lose power because I’m already in my load or what???
AHHHH Curtis Granderson. The strikeout King. As a Tigers fan I did not miss that guy. Not sure why he's acting like he was ever on time in his career. That was his downfall. All pull but often late isn't a good combination.
If you have great timing, you can hit no matter how bad your swing mechanics are. Great swing mechanics can make up for insufficient timing, to still hit line drives. Players Having more strike outs than hits is not a good example of good hitters.
Lol judge did the opposite of granderson. Curtis got ride of the moving load, Judge said he did and proceeded to load and move his hand position back and up.

Curtis Granderson was a good ass player.
Curtis was such a great hitter. Only a handful thylakoids can hit like that man with power and speed. This guy was a way ahead of his time
Rickey Henderson has entered the conversation only because Mickey Mantle is passed out at the bar.
