  • Vintage & classic cars painted black is the subject of this compilation, where 140 black cars of the 1920s through to the 1980s feature. A huge variety of car types feature, including the Ford 100E, Mini, Wolseley 1500, Rover P4, Austin Healey, Vauxhall Velox, Triumph Mayflower, Chevrolet Corvair, Jaguar S-Type, Peugeot 403, Morgan, Lanchester LD10 and many more - 140 photos in all, all of black cars only.
The downside of owning a black colour car is that they tend to show dirt very quickly, and by all accounts touching up paintwork on a black car is more difficult than with some other colours (is this true?). They can look fantastic though, and this compilation includes some of the best-looking black cars I've seen in recent years.
Do you like black cars? Do you own one? Let us know in the comments section what you think of black as a car colour. Is it too sombre?
Thanks for watching, if you're new here please take a look around. The Old Classic Car channel is a mix of videos all with classic cars as the main theme - show visits, garage tinkerings, owner interviews, museum walkarounds and more can be found here.

Such a lot of lovely old and not quite so old cars in black. The Winchester taxi rear lights appear to be from a Cortina Mk 1 Estate, if not they are very much like them. Always interesting these colour themed videos so thank you Rick for putting it together.👍👍

When I first moved to Beijing in 2003 all the cars, and I mean everyone, was black and all the taxis were tiny little red Xiali sardine cans, they were tiny. It was fascinating over the years to watch that change to bigger, really up market and more colourful cars and multicoloured Hyundai taxis which were introduced for the 2008 Olympics which I did go to.
In Shanghai where I lived for 4 years, the tendency now tends to be for white cars predominantly because of the heat and to reflect the sun whereas black cars absorb the heat.

Thanks Richard for yet another great video. You must put a lot of effort into them and your in-depth knowledge adds so much. Black seems to suit pre-war and late 1940s classics, maybe because back in the day so many were in fact black and so it adds to the air of authenticity. My favourites in this collection: Austin 16, the gorgeous MG YA, the Big 15 Citroen and the Vauxhall Velox. The more recent MGC looked unexpectedly smart in black.

Hi 👋 Good images of a variety of different models. That American Motors Pacer is nice. I like the design of them. I have not ever seen one here in New Zealand. I think the Citroen Tractions looked good in black. They mostly were built in black. My mother's Uncle owned a Citroen Traction. I can't remember that, but she told me about it. She said it stood out on the road because it was French and not a common sight here. The Morris Oxford and Austin Cambridges were popular here. Two families in my street where i lived had them in the 1960s. The old Rovers were built like tanks, i remember going to a Demolition car derby in the 1970s and a few drivers used old 1950s Rovers. It was an American Pontiac that won the derby. Thanks for this video.

As my late comedian friend, Frank Carson would say, "It's a cracker! It was an unusual approach to have the cars all in black. Black is ideal for showing off well polished and chrome festooned cars, but as the son of a taxi proprietor, my weekend job was the labourishly polishing of them a square foot at a time with hard Simomonise wax. Grrr! Greatly enjoy vid from the top family of enthusiasts!

My take home cars on this video are 1, has to be the 59 chevolet impala, circa 1970 a neighbours cousin owned one for a short while. It was pink with a white roof. Massive thing it was. He ended up banger racing it at the Aldershot stock car stadium, as a 13yr old we went to watch it meet its end.
It never done very well as I recall.
No 2, has to be the Zephyr MK IV And 3, the A95 Westminster
I've owned three black cars, 1955 Singer Hunter, 1966 Hillman Imp, and a 1984 Granada estate.
I love your videos as they always take me down memory lane and reminds me of days gone by, things I wouldn't normally think about. Cheers 🍻

I do have a front view but sadly the reg. is just out of frame!! It was in North Wales in 2006 if that helps, it has both an AA and RAC badge on the grille, plus a large single Lucas foglamp.

You certainly keep meeting the challenges. There cannot be many Phase Two Vanguards, but you have one in your photos. Had a look at the history of the Vanguard to be sure. It would have been wonderful to have a full side view. But another Challenge met. You keep showing Rover 75 Spot saloons & their like & i suppose they are as close as we are going to get to a proper Rover 12 sportsman saloon. Just a fraction bloated. I imagine the Maestro 40th anniversary day at Gaydon was not possible to get to. It had a lot of A40 farina's & was used as a Jowett owners day along with a big Austin, Morris day with all the sub makes that come with them. Jowett being associated with Fisher & Ludlow, hence Morris.

Thanks, I had thought of going to the BL day at Gaydon (same for the more recent Rootes & Ford gathering) but in the end other things got in the way and those trips didn't happen.
