I keep coming back to this performance after all these years.
me too.
Me too
As a drummer, this drum solo is one of the best and the most musical solos I have ever seen throughout my life! And the composition is definitely beyond amazing!
(applause)
As a drummer also ill agree with you insofar as improvising a solo live under the pressure of lights and camera.but aside from that my instinct and preference leads me to play a solo with more gaps and spacing between phrases. This performance needs more a stream of note flow which while impressive lacks breath and air or even resolve. The bass solo in contrast shows odd meter control moreso. Ok, my criticism is flawed in that the drum solo should and ought be a different event from the bass solo that proceeds it. But my opinion is ultimately based on my own instinct for such a solo moment. I cannot help but hear the drummer playing more like the bass player with a performance that is free over the odd meter form but still always anchored to it by virtue of skillful knowledge and control of odd meter play. I'm not able to play better but my practice to this always ends in me trying to space phrasing with rest and pause at select I tervals while my ears are still hearing and following the odd meter form but not necessitated by a co stant note subdivision flurry of play chatter. That said though and to rejoin in my agreeing with your overall positive point on the drummer, his mid to uptempo swing comping to the piano solo in the odd meter is astounding for me and the part I cannot play at all and will take me probably a year to learn haha
Actually I've listened again and I've changed my mind. You are right. You see I skipped to the solo and entered a point near its end. His phrasing at the start of his solo is exactly what I wanted to hear from him and the end I caught was actually an appropriate climax to the solo as a whole. So, I'm happy to admit that I was wrong and that you are correct. Great drum solo. The way he builds into the finale is pristine.nim foolish I entered half way and thought that was the full thing. My mistake and sorry for criticising you. Glad I rewatched it after responding to you, sorry I hadn't watched without skipping in the first place. Habit I developed from youtube skimming. I take back my former comments to you, well assessed by you and I agree his solo phrasing at the beginning not his solo is exactly as you describe. I'm impressed and watching that part again consequently haha
What I really appreciate in Jazz is how the public is focused on the music......they know when to listen....when to cheer.....and how long to cheer. In a way, the public is part of the band during the concert
Not really.
@@TheMaecki they didn't say they were literally part of the band, they do indeed contribute to the overall experience of the band. get a grip you smooth-brained fanny hahahahaha
Funny how people really start appreciating the music on their own when you don't tell them when not to clap...
Also @Owen L calm down jeez
@@oscargill423 ?? dw bud i was fine, just like to match dismissiveness with dismissiveness. its all people like that understand, unfortunately. thanks for checking in tho! :D
@@oscargill423 also, what kind of music is it where they tell people when not to clap? cant say ive come across that myself!
when I was between 20-40th years old, listenig dance and other techno music, "yeah - kokain life livin", after my 40th years, when I have Wife, two childs, this is the music I ever love!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for your music!!!!!!
I am still in complete awe for the drummer. Daniel Dor has a language! His own - is just so amazing. Many many compliments!
Drummer kept the feel of the song through his whole solo, incredible drummer and what a beautiful sounding drumkit!
actually the drummer is the most amazing part of the band
Daniel Dor ... What a drummer Oo Astonishing performance
153 peoples don't know what music is!
Mr. Cohen is one of the most innovative musicians around the World...
If You don't like his vision of the music or his compositions there's no problem, but....
Thumb down!?!?
Are You stupid or what!!??!
You're killing the real music dudes....
Long live to Mr. Cohen, the most PROGRESSIVE JAZZ MUSICIAN that ever walked on the Hearth!!!!
Love You Mr. Cohen!!!
:-)
Daniel Dor is just killin' it!!
D'or!! Sensationnel ❣️
They all play so comfortable in odd times i'm envious.
Let's have take five in 7/8 for a moment:)
Daniel Dor.... Wouuaaa thank you for your musicality !
Tremendous Avishai Cohen Trio! Don´t miss the Avishai´s solo!
I've seen and listened this a lot of times, in a lot of other occasions. I can't get enough of every single performance. Wish really to have the privilege to see one of your concerts.
Too marvellous for words!!!!!
One of the best musicians in the history of music....
I hear a lot of Zappa music ideas, but not in your style, that is a personal trademark....
You are free!!!!!!
Your music is free because your soul is free too!!!!
Thank's for all music You play....
You love music, and everybody can "hear" that mood when You start to play....
We all got something from Frank Zappa, FZ has the audacity to express it and face the world with it. Thank you Franck for your Courage and Resistance, and Thank you Avishai from a pure fan from Casablanca - Morocco
Superbe live : ...
I like how you can always recognise one of his tunes two bars in, from the syncopation. ta-taa, ta-taa, ta-da-ta.
I would press the thumbs-up button twice if it was possible. That was amazing!
Maestros, gracias !
9:18 - 10:10 I remember having heard Avishai play a jazzy walking bass but I had forgotten the song ... found it!!
Avishai plays so much unique music that one might forget his mastery of more traditional playing styles. It is really refreshing for me to hear him rip off a superior jazz walking bass. I get the impression that he values his unique musical creations more than some traditional western playing styles since I rarely hear him integrate them into his newer music. But just in case his listeners forget, every once in a while he lets us know that he masters all styles of bass play!! ;)

Maybe was "new swing" ?...
Now this is how a genuine experience of art should be like! Amazing on all scales!
I have no words... All incredible musicians, great drummer, superb pianist and what a bass solo Avishai, you're the best ❣️
Thank you guys 🙏
My goodness, I needed that. Thank you.
Can't get enough of this! The pianist solo is superb😍😍
totally not my genre, but on a technical level is this amazing beyond explanation, amazing soli by the bassist and the drummer. simply art work in the making
And the Pianist too!
Well... that would only be another comment from me. Really... I'm loving this virtuoso! 😍😍😍
This is just amazing
The most impressive is how natural they play a 7/4. They don't have any doubt.
Like they are taking a stroll down a shadowy lane in perfect step.
Wouhaou !!!
Amazing ! Inspired to improvise vocally on this ! Is amazing rhythm, lyricism dynamics , superb !
Thank you very much guys and team. Just what this man needed at the right time. Pow-Wow

Avaishai always gets amazing drummers...Mark Guiliana, Daniel Dor, Ziv Ravitz, all incredible!
incredible. just plain good music
Virtuoses !
The pianist (Nitai Hershkovits) was not lost, he was enjoying the solo, this isn't some amateur show these are amazing players don't belittle them.
+Stefan Sora Ivanovski even the greatest artist fail sometimes ....
+marcoviolinista98 is being lost a failure?
+William Barrett of course not, but the faces he made when he continued playing after avishai's solo were tremendous 😂. Excellent musicians
He was likely trying to see if he could comp in there, but Avishai is playing rubato, meaning free of a specified rhythm, so it wouldn't be possible to effectively comp. No mistake by either player, just a musical decision in the moment.
These guys are putting on a show. Of course they knew what was going on.
For ANYONE to critique this as less than an awesome shows how little understanding they have for the art that was created in this performance...it's one thing for professionals to regurgitate well practiced licks, and musicianship. It's quite another to do what this performance demonstrates. That's to transcend the music itself and engage the audience...I was really impressed, thank you for sharing!
Listening to this, breathless!
Fabuleux.
the best!!! can't wait for tomorrow
WOW what amazing solos. Wow wow wow... What a piano performance so jazzy
It makes me feel absolute love. Salvaje sentimiento que me traspasa. Enormemente agradecida a su música.

Best house track. Ever. :)
That is insanely good!
Just great. I Love Jazz so much.
Fantastici 😍🥰
Israel savage !
I have some charts from Gently Disturbed. On one tune the signature changes from 5/8 to 6/4 every bar up until the 10th bar, which then changes to 4/4, back to 5/8 at the 16th bar, then 11/16 at the 23rd bar, back to 6/4 for the coda. Trying to figure out Avishai's time without his charts is like solving a Rubik's cube in the dark. Don't beat yourself up if you listen and can't find the One; the sonic puzzle is part of his mystique.
Chutzpan right
Music is about flow not time signature. Bars are not that important to them
@@jifangzhang2832 You only get flow if everyone's rowing in rhe same direction at the same time. Bar lines have their purpose.
@@jifangzhang2832 you need to appreciate the time signatures. flow without direction is not a river.
Wow !! Mind blowing !
Mazal tov.gracias maestro!
How 321 people can dislike such a Master

Happy 50 Avishai!
