Krieg is the only attrition based troops they have, and that's because that may be do to cloning. It doesn't matter how many troops you can hire if their life expectancy is less than 15 minutes on a battlefield. They may be locked in a war for 10k years, but they are losing that war and losing ground faster than they can take it, their common weapons ain't that good, their common tank ain't that good, they have lost the ability to make certain tech. Krieg makes the best of this and can make people faster than people make people. SW could bring back clones of their own, and even bring back droids. Yea, CIS droids sucked, that's because they where the cheapest possible option for a mass army. There can be better more deadly options. SW would win in a battle of attrition if left unchecked, there is simply more wider variety of options and they are capable of making and inventing tech faster than 40k. 10k years for little advancement vs a couple years battle with super weapons being made by both sides. In the beginning it would go in the Imperium's favor as they fight a weaker Tau, later it would be in the empires favor.

Space marines don’t use lasweaponry though, aside from lascannons, which, when not being lugged around by Astartes Devastators or Sternguard, are mounted on vehicles. And besides, what handheld blaster have you ever seen that’s capable of shearing limbs off its target? I understand how blasters kill, the sudden influx of that much heat into a humanoid body instantaneously raises their internal temperature to something lethal. But, the worst kind of wound you see is a through-and-through pinhole burn. A lasgun will rip your damn arm or leg off at a middling power setting. When someone gets hit with a blaster you see burned hole the diameter of a pencil in the target, and quite often, it doesn’t even go through that target. Lasguns will burn tennis ball sized holes through Orks. The only problem is, Orks are so obscenely tough that they can shrug off a few of those hits before going down lol

I like to imagine that the space marine didn't even call the kreigsman in but rather they just heard someone say "attrition" and immediately took the nearest drop pod or trench they just got done digging to see what's up
The pauldrons actually make sense on space marine armour. If the marine turns his body 45 degrees and braces his gun to fire from the hip, much of his upper body is then covered by thick ceramite plates. The massive pauldrons cover half of his torso while the exposed half is angled enough for rounds to ricochet off. To make himself even more well-protected, the marine can go on one knee and use his strong shin/knee plates to cover the relatively less protected hip area. In that pose, an enemy shooting at the marine front on with something like a bolter can only aim for the helmet, the forearms and hands holding the bolter, or whatever joints that are still exposed.
plus, and more importentely, the pauldron gives enough space for the serfs and servitor to put lavish decoration and symboles on them, big enough for being seen from the other side of the battlefield. As it has been said, "let these degenerates know what is coming for them!"
Isn't it actually canon that space marine pauldrons are literally meant for exactly what you said? Like, they're so big specifically to add much more defence to more vulnerable areas and allow them to reposition themselves to block oncoming fire with these more heavily defended areas. I know it's canon that melee weapons are so common because they genuinely need them for more heavily armored opponents, so heavier armor in certain areas would make sense to defend themselves enough to both reduce projectile damage and get in melee range to strike anything with similar armor levels

The galactic empire : only existed for barely 20 years and lost to rebels The imperium of man : been around for over 10,000 years, suffered a galactic civil war, a cosmic tear and has vast enemies at every turn and STILL has entire sections of its domains untouched and "relatively peaceful" (paradise worlds for example)
@@aquatic4760 Actually, the Ciaphas Cain series is an interesting take on the Imperium because it has sections where it shows that not all life in the 40k universe is hell, which makes sense. With the Imperium being so large, there definitely will be some areas that won't be touched directly by war, which a lot of the other books don't cover. We mostly see war zones where life is definitely hell but I suspect that it would be a skewed one sided view of an imperium of a million worlds.
Even without plot armor, stormtrooper rifles are cqc, to the point where they don't even have good stocks, so their accuracy is sub par at best. The lasgun they'd best compare to is the Voss used by Armageddon Steel Legion. But even then the Voss has a folding stock, and its full auto (tho only full auto). But even then, Armageddon has much better morale, better close quarters training, (they even fight ORKS in melee sometimes. Hell they even have specialists at fighting orks in melee, I'm not kidding those exist), more firepower, more special and heavy weapons teams, and pretty much always come in a tank (they are MECHANIZED after all). So yeah... Stormtroopers vs imperial guard is not a fair fight. Not even close.

@@calebbarnhouse496 Do keep in mind actual IG regulars are actually well trained. Conscripts of course aren't, but regular troops are heavily trained. Also flak armor isn't just fancy cloth, it's real armor capable of withstanding shots from lasguns/autoguns and keeping the soldier alive.
Death Troopers vs Tempestus Scions would be fairly even. Stormtroopers are literally conscripts in armor only effective at dealing with heat based weapons. A guard conscript would be the best matchup.

In close quarters stormtroopers excell, their armor is made to deal with blasters. Plasma weapons. So lasguns ain't doing much. Bullets? Flesh Tearer is slowly melted down by thousands of blaster shots while the troopers suffer acceptable losses. That many Stormtroopers can't miss, especially against an unnamed character. A single Astartes was forced into cover by a well-placed multi laser, and had the weapon team been more patient, they would've pinned him down in the open and killed him.
Well, those oversize pauldrons do have some usefulness on them. Such as blocking laser shots, bolt rounds, and melee weapons, hell I remember one book where a Space Marine uses a damaged pauldron to smack a large bug thing square in the face before dying in glorious, yet mauled to death, glory.
The Stormtroopers from the Imperium aka "Tempestus Scions" would also be an interesting comparison, they're basically the Tier 1 Special Forces of the Imperium and are armed with Full Auto Laser Rifles that melt holes in power armor and have body armor that actually works.

From Stormtrooper Carapace that bounces Armor Piercing rifle bullets, Astartes Power Armor that Autocannons struggle with to the Thunderhawks that are practically immune to melta weapons that infamous for literally liquefying tank armor.
The Scions would be like peak Mandalorians. SW stormtroopers would melt like butter. but for a more even fight you'd be fighting the inquisitors or death troopers.
No I'd argue the Tempesus Scions are tier two, because honestly a lot of guard regiments or at least individual squads are capable of doing special operations, it's honestly a matter of supplies more than skill in their case.
The SW space travel is much better. With better shield technology as well. Though they're still in the infancy of space combat. much more powerful stuff exists in starwars, but it's never used so it might as well not exist.
Krieg is the one planet that has oh-so-specific denials about how it definitely isn't vat-growing clone soldiers to pump out tens of millions of fully-equipped troops a year.

to be fair the over sized shoulder pauldrons can work in effect like a small shield kind of like the Oyoroi armor the samurai wore. like sure the designers probably didn't think of this at the time they made the space marines but there are real world examples of really big shoulder protection

Casualties in an individual battle for Space Marines when you zoom out to the scale of the setting aren't terrible even if losing one marine is the cost of someone's house. Marines are going down to things that would kill stormtroopers 1000 fold, even worse with Primaris Marines who have 10 years of combat experience max compared to the possible 1000s their first gen marines have.

Losing a single one every year is an unnacceptably high attrition rate that really can't be replaced. At least if you wanted to talk about each marine having hundreds or possibly thousands of years of experience. though the later would all be dreadnoughts or chapter masters. The Primaris might have gotten hundreds of years of experience from the great crusade, and from their indom crusade with Guilliman by now. The only possible way the fluff makes sense is if the Marines mostly fight battles that are never mentioned in the lore. Super easy missions to level grind. But then they'd still be greenhorns when fighting the Eldar due to few veterans actually surviving such encounters.

Yeah, the imperium asked for one regiment when they were reintegrated after their civil war and Krieg goes "We have twenty ready to go and several more on ze way" "Twenty guardsman?" "No, Twenty regiments" And then the ministorum collectively nutted hearing those numbers. In pure attrition against a force with no resistance to kinetic weapons and lasgun fire Krieg is winning via several shovels to the enemy's throats.

About the armor difference in armor... one has weirdly oversized pauldrons and one can protect you from teddy bears with undersized bows, sticks, and stones. Oh, wait, that's the same one. I think I'm going to pick the armor that ISN'T overspecialized to protect you from energy weapons but still fails to do so regularly. You know... the one that augments your strength and endurance, enhances your aim, safeguards you against the dangers of vacuum exposure, and actually has a decent chance of preventing your death when you get shot! I guess flak armor would be better for comparison to Stormtrooper armor. Both mass-produced and good at what they're designed for, but put through a lot of random and over-the-top stuff the designers never expected.
Stomtrooper armor is also environmentally sealed and a variety of vision enhancing hardware to let them see through smoke and in the dark, as well as projecting a blaster's point of aim for the wearer. All so easily forgotten by the writers.

I mean the pauldrons are there to do what they have literally been designed to do since the Middle Ages, which is be a massive shield against incoming attacks when the wearing is advancing. Take a look at plate armor, the left (usually) pauldron is huge with a lip to cover the neck.

Sure. Though I would think that ceramite would be better at dispersing energy weapons than plastoid. If the storm troopers are elite then I bet they would have a rough time with the Imperium's storm troopers of the militarum tempestus, best soldiers of humanity even on par with astartes and way better lasguns that are powerful enough to penetrate cermaite. Blasters weapons fire plasma bolts meaning they are quite deadly in the 40k universe. Not to mention disrupter weapons, while they are not used by the empire a weapon that deconstructs someone on the molecular level is basically Necron tech.

Remember in the scene after the gang escapes the death star tarkan tells Vader off for ordering the troops to let them escape but make it look good leading to the slaughter of most of the rebel leadership outside of key vips on hoth. Alongside kenobi clarifying only storm troopers are trained enough to take down a heavily armored freighter with blaster fire on first movie.

That's... the bare minimum. Even the weakest bulletproof armor works vs shrapnel. Literally anything above a stabproof vest works vs shrapnel. Even 22lr can get through those. And 22lr is just so bad.

Legends lore, they are quite good, its just the Ewoks had really strong wooden spears. (lol) Current lore, a metal hammer can be swung at their armor and it shatters, but at least they are never dying on screen because Disney. Edit: Nobody dies of falling in star wars is a meta joke, not true.
Death Troopers are supposed to be the equivilant to Space Marines and Spartans from Halo, but watch anything that features them and they die in one shot.

Krieg is the only attrition based troops they have, and that's because that may be do to cloning.
It doesn't matter how many troops you can hire if their life expectancy is less than 15 minutes on a battlefield. They may be locked in a war for 10k years, but they are losing that war and losing ground faster than they can take it, their common weapons ain't that good, their common tank ain't that good, they have lost the ability to make certain tech. Krieg makes the best of this and can make people faster than people make people.
SW could bring back clones of their own, and even bring back droids. Yea, CIS droids sucked, that's because they where the cheapest possible option for a mass army. There can be better more deadly options.
SW would win in a battle of attrition if left unchecked, there is simply more wider variety of options and they are capable of making and inventing tech faster than 40k.

Or sometimes they would be placed in places of high rebellion resistance since they were more equipped to deal with terrorists using guerilla tactics than a police force would, it's not saying that the planets didn't have police and such but in the event of an attack by heavily armed terrorists I would rather have a marine Corp squadron fighting them then a group of police officers. So technically they aren't special forces but they aren't just regular soldiers either, they are more so the bridge between the two.

And besides, what handheld blaster have you ever seen that’s capable of shearing limbs off its target? I understand how blasters kill, the sudden influx of that much heat into a humanoid body instantaneously raises their internal temperature to something lethal. But, the worst kind of wound you see is a through-and-through pinhole burn. A lasgun will rip your damn arm or leg off at a middling power setting.
When someone gets hit with a blaster you see burned hole the diameter of a pencil in the target, and quite often, it doesn’t even go through that target. Lasguns will burn tennis ball sized holes through Orks. The only problem is, Orks are so obscenely tough that they can shrug off a few of those hits before going down lol

problem is, that the vastness of the imperium of man, would take a ship with starwars hyperjump about a few years to even change sectors...
The pauldrons actually make sense on space marine armour. If the marine turns his body 45 degrees and braces his gun to fire from the hip, much of his upper body is then covered by thick ceramite plates. The massive pauldrons cover half of his torso while the exposed half is angled enough for rounds to ricochet off. To make himself even more well-protected, the marine can go on one knee and use his strong shin/knee plates to cover the relatively less protected hip area. In that pose, an enemy shooting at the marine front on with something like a bolter can only aim for the helmet, the forearms and hands holding the bolter, or whatever joints that are still exposed.
plus, and more importentely, the pauldron gives enough space for the serfs and servitor to put lavish decoration and symboles on them, big enough for being seen from the other side of the battlefield.

Isn't it actually canon that space marine pauldrons are literally meant for exactly what you said? Like, they're so big specifically to add much more defence to more vulnerable areas and allow them to reposition themselves to block oncoming fire with these more heavily defended areas.
I know it's canon that melee weapons are so common because they genuinely need them for more heavily armored opponents, so heavier armor in certain areas would make sense to defend themselves enough to both reduce projectile damage and get in melee range to strike anything with similar armor levels
Tau also have these big oversized pauldrons on their armor.

Every once in awhile you run into unexpectedly chill and reasonable Imperials of all stripes in the books. They're very much loyalists, but they'll give you a chance to take back the trash you're talking before they do anything rash.

@@aquatic4760 Actually, the Ciaphas Cain series is an interesting take on the Imperium because it has sections where it shows that not all life in the 40k universe is hell, which makes sense. With the Imperium being so large, there definitely will be some areas that won't be touched directly by war, which a lot of the other books don't cover. We mostly see war zones where life is definitely hell but I suspect that it would be a skewed one sided view of an imperium of a million worlds.

Even without plot armor, stormtrooper rifles are cqc, to the point where they don't even have good stocks, so their accuracy is sub par at best.
The lasgun they'd best compare to is the Voss used by Armageddon Steel Legion. But even then the Voss has a folding stock, and its full auto (tho only full auto).
But even then, Armageddon has much better morale, better close quarters training, (they even fight ORKS in melee sometimes. Hell they even have specialists at fighting orks in melee, I'm not kidding those exist), more firepower, more special and heavy weapons teams, and pretty much always come in a tank (they are MECHANIZED after all).
So yeah... Stormtroopers vs imperial guard is not a fair fight. Not even close.

@@calebbarnhouse496 Do keep in mind actual IG regulars are actually well trained. Conscripts of course aren't, but regular troops are heavily trained. Also flak armor isn't just fancy cloth, it's real armor capable of withstanding shots from lasguns/autoguns and keeping the soldier alive.

Death Troopers vs Tempestus Scions would be fairly even. Stormtroopers are literally conscripts in armor only effective at dealing with heat based weapons. A guard conscript would be the best matchup.
40k weapons are still more powerful. Even a regular flashlight will kill a human with one shot

Well, those oversize pauldrons do have some usefulness on them.
Such as blocking laser shots, bolt rounds, and melee weapons, hell I remember one book where a Space Marine uses a damaged pauldron to smack a large bug thing square in the face before dying in glorious, yet mauled to death, glory.
I'm honestly surprised that the Space Marine didn't bring out the Chainsword the moment the Stormtrooper dissed the Emprah, they've done so for less.
For the record, the shoulder pauldrons are used to block enemy fire and smash through obstacles.

The Stormtroopers from the Imperium aka "Tempestus Scions" would also be an interesting comparison, they're basically the Tier 1 Special Forces of the Imperium and are armed with Full Auto Laser Rifles that melt holes in power armor and have body armor that actually works.

The Scions would be like peak Mandalorians. SW stormtroopers would melt like butter. but for a more even fight you'd be fighting the inquisitors or death troopers.

to be fair the over sized shoulder pauldrons can work in effect like a small shield kind of like the Oyoroi armor the samurai wore. like sure the designers probably didn't think of this at the time they made the space marines but there are real world examples of really big shoulder protection

Casualties in an individual battle for Space Marines when you zoom out to the scale of the setting aren't terrible even if losing one marine is the cost of someone's house. Marines are going down to things that would kill stormtroopers 1000 fold, even worse with Primaris Marines who have 10 years of combat experience max compared to the possible 1000s their first gen marines have.

@@Nostroman_Praetor Losing one marine is about the same cost as losing an entire planet. If you're talking about Warhammer 40k. They're more rare than there are planets under Imperial rule. Losing a single one every year is an unnacceptably high attrition rate that really can't be replaced. At least if you wanted to talk about each marine having hundreds or possibly thousands of years of experience. though the later would all be dreadnoughts or chapter masters. The Primaris might have gotten hundreds of years of experience from the great crusade, and from their indom crusade with Guilliman by now. The only possible way the fluff makes sense is if the Marines mostly fight battles that are never mentioned in the lore. Super easy missions to level grind. But then they'd still be greenhorns when fighting the Eldar due to few veterans actually surviving such encounters.
Let's say hypothetically that the storm troopers don't instantly get suicide charged and die like heretics if I'm not mistaken Krieg produces millions of troops extremely fast in contrast to the empires recruitment

About the armor difference in armor... one has weirdly oversized pauldrons and one can protect you from teddy bears with undersized bows, sticks, and stones.
Oh, wait, that's the same one.
I think I'm going to pick the armor that ISN'T overspecialized to protect you from energy weapons but still fails to do so regularly. You know... the one that augments your strength and endurance, enhances your aim, safeguards you against the dangers of vacuum exposure, and actually has a decent chance of preventing your death when you get shot!
I guess flak armor would be better for comparison to Stormtrooper armor. Both mass-produced and good at what they're designed for, but put through a lot of random and over-the-top stuff the designers never expected.
Stomtrooper armor is also environmentally sealed and a variety of vision enhancing hardware to let them see through smoke and in the dark, as well as projecting a blaster's point of aim for the wearer. All so easily forgotten by the writers.

Stormtroopers are so rarely the elite soldiers they are supposed to be in Star Wars. Most often, probably too often, they're completely incompetent the moment anyone with plot armor appears in their way... unfortunate but it's the trend now.
If memory serves, Star Wars has five classifications of spacesuit, and Stormtrooper armor was on the lower end, meaning it could briefly keep you alive in space, but maybe only provide a few minutes of air tops... but this comes from a Darth Vader suit reference book and therefore may not be completely accurate.
I mean the pauldrons are there to do what they have literally been designed to do since the Middle Ages, which is be a massive shield against incoming attacks when the wearing is advancing. Take a look at plate armor, the left (usually) pauldron is huge with a lip to cover the neck.

Well because of how stormtrooper armor works, it's safe to assume it takes 2 shots from a lasgun to kill 1. Vs an E-11 which punches through metal and cooks your insides. And FFS stormtroopers are canonically elite! Put some respect on the bros.

Lasguns are equivalents of Amban phase-pulse blaster Mando use. They are way overpowered and would kill with a single shot. Especially Krieg ones.
@@iconicusensign9624 It kinda the opposite, because there's so many types of stormtroopers on top of your basic Wich as agreed are elite. Yet all kinda come in standard with their armaments yet said arsenal is huge. Technology in Starwars is ridiculously strong. There are only so many scions, elite too but not flexible. You wouldn't see a scion specific to operating in space, or in deep oceans. Or for example in Legends lore protecting ancient corrupt ruins.
Blasters weapons fire plasma bolts meaning they are quite deadly in the 40k universe. Not to mention disrupter weapons, while they are not used by the empire a weapon that deconstructs someone on the molecular level is basically Necron tech.

Remember in the scene after the gang escapes the death star tarkan tells Vader off for ordering the troops to let them escape but make it look good leading to the slaughter of most of the rebel leadership outside of key vips on hoth. Alongside kenobi clarifying only storm troopers are trained enough to take down a heavily armored freighter with blaster fire on first movie.

I do find it funny that after the Storm trooper said attrition the krieg showed up behind the Space Marine

They literally "don't hit anything" only in New Hope during the Death Star escape... when they have a tracker on the ship of the people they want escaping. They're much closer shots in Empire, and slaughter most of the rebels in Jedi.
Clone troopers slaughtered the jedi, and they were the more competent fighting force.

That's... the bare minimum. Even the weakest bulletproof armor works vs shrapnel. Literally anything above a stabproof vest works vs shrapnel. Even 22lr can get through those. And 22lr is just so bad.

Legends lore, they are quite good, its just the Ewoks had really strong wooden spears. (lol)
Current lore, a metal hammer can be swung at their armor and it shatters, but at least they are never dying on screen because Disney.

And this is how the Empire was dragged into an unfortunate one sided slaughter of a crusade because one insubordinate hack of a storm trooper thought he could take on not only an *ADEPTUS ASTARTES SPACE MARINE* but also the Death Corps of Krieg which not only outnumber the Empire as a whole, they have a tendency to individually be far more brutal than Darth Sideous himself. All the while the fellow Adeptus and Primaris Astartes with their Chapter master instead of joining the battle, pulled up some chairs, and laughed as their battle brother ripped the Empire a new one.
