- Äas pĆidĂĄn 23. 11. 2020
- As Sol Flight 5428 reached its cruising altitude, the pilots noticed ice building up on the planes wings and propellors. This ice build up over the Patagonia caused the plane to nosedive into the ground below killing everybody on board. Watch the full episode to discover more details about this air disaster.

At this point, they are more interesting than scary, for the Smithsonian veteran watchers out there
I 100% agree. These are super interesting, and honestly, Iâm less afraid of flying by now.
@@alicemoffat Yup. These vids have taught me so much about aviation. And it also shows the amount of safety features in planes, and that a disaster only occurs when multiple systems fail, which is highly unlikely
I finally found someone like me. This is so true and I'm glad to see other people learning from this!
Yup it's true

"They find there are no survivors" well, after an airplane moving at like 500 mph crashes into a desert floor at like fucking Mach 2, would you think there would be survivors?

@@visualizethis1597 ohhhh now I understand, thanks!
So, it did melt... when it went into a fireball...
1:44 well if you put your engines to full power it would possibly get most of the ice off the propellers but it can damage them pretty easily
exactly, i would think not to do that cause it can cause more stress
Yes it seems like it's going to cause less stability on a wing that barely has flight worthy form considering the ice That's like increasing your speed on a flat tire,
They didnât actually increase the power to full. The prop rpm was increased which doesnât directly increase thrust in a turboprop. The pitch of the blades controls thrust in a turboprop.
The material become tranfer from ductile to brittle transition, which is same happened for same to Titanic
The happy music after the video đ
I dreamt I was swimming in Patagonia with my friends. Most of the old islands were under water and on stilts. We swam by an abandoned fuel tanker that had turned over and got stuck in the mouth of a sea cave. We swam all the way back to main land to a rental house that used to be on a small island and everyone there were getting stoned and drunk. It was a pretty fun dream.
Numbskull

So glad they are posting Air Disasters again its so addicting for me.
FINALLY!Some more aviation vids!and of course that voice....love it
Imagine being an actor for this illustration, you will be afraid to fly again
Well that's great đ
Exact oppisite for me.
Thatâs the reason why I would never go on a turboprop if it was really cold because of icing conditions in the upper atmosphere The dash 8 and theATR air craft have the same problems with ice Thatâs the reason why I am really scared of going on the ATR and going on dash eight or any turboprop air craft when itâs cold
What i like to do on a plane is watch these so the other passenger freaks out
Just be careful not to make the airline notice and started to charge/banned you from taking their flight
And I like to watch you on a Kamikaze flight via live feed crashing into the Rockies.

It is bright there with fire of a crash! đ
@@MohamedAli-dw9og yeah ik, but the HAPPY MUSIC
the article in Wikipedia says the crash report stated they never applied power, and the airspeed decayed until the plane stalled and nosedived.
If they stalled the airplane and continued to pull-up on the controls, the A/C likely didn't nosedive but essentially "fell out of the sky", almost the same way as Air France flight 441, with a nose-up, not nose-down, attitude.
1:50 i love that stickshaker sound
Me too
Beyond horrific. RIP all. As soon as ice is spotted, de-ice!
I donât know why I love these videos
This wouldâve been prevented if they turned on the anti ice system
I don't know exactly but in Saab 340, there is no Anti Ice system.
There was no anti ice system
And dont you think had they had the option this pair of qualified pilots would have done that
@@JNG107 Wrong. The saab 340 does have de icing boots.
@@JNG107 I don't intend to trash on anyone, but you'd be surprised.
reminds me of Flight 4184 that crashed in Roselawn Indiana. which happened 17 years earlier.

they were traveling too slow. nearly 100 knots. but still shouldn't you know that you should push the throttles when you are in a dive or stall
@god they were on max throttle .
@@yusuf-kc7wp Not max throttle, max rpm. In turboprops the throttle mainly controls the pitch of the blades.
@@kurtsvensson4362 oh
ok

I like these videos, but since I've watched all the episodes from season 13 to 20, I practically know how all these flights crashed, and it ain't fun anymore
There are photos of inside this plane the time before this crash.

A plane: crashes

They increased their RPMs but not their Throttle. Because of this they were never going to be able to come out of that dive. Goes to show when in doubt try and keep a level head. The level headed people come out on top
It's soo scary and before I liked to go on plane but now Im soo scared that I can't even look out. I want to to tell what happens after the plane crash.but it's really scary how thy struggle for control and losing their life
I saved these kinda videos on youtube premium. And yesterday boarded a flight only to make me terrorised all the way through the journey.

HOW CAN I WATCH THE FULL EPOSIDE???
ice build up , full throttle?
the De ice and heating boot failing?
The day this crash happened May 18th 2011 was the same day I had surgery on my back. I thought it was kinda interesting/funny that it was the same day.
Does anyone notice how every accident has the same cockpit?
What did they expect letting Seananners into the cockpit
It might be a severe microburst or an sudden unknown falling
The desert critters ate good that day.
if the plane really nosedived that fast and the plane wasn't really going any more forward while they were pulling back, they would've been better off doing a full donut and then once they reached a steady flat altitude, ease off the handle and let it crash smoothly
That plane is revving like a roadster
And now getting scared when I will go on vacation because I should ride planes but I don't want to because they might crash
why didnt they just turned on antiice ?
fun fact : its a saab 340 the plane
Atc didnt know there was a heavy ice storm at there path
is there a switch for de icing
Captain: dont worry we will make it to 19k feet.
Me (if i was the first officer): uhuh how about we god damn turn around and put this plane down. Now!
I Feel like The Co pilot Sounds Like Micheal Desanta From gta5 LOL
When the end, is the end !
I have a weird question here:
Does that saab airplane have anti ice system or not???
Cuz when u increase altitude. The plane becomes worst due to alot of ice picking.
From what I know, the saab 340 does have an anti ice system installed.
It does! it has a "boot" anti ice or "bota" how we call it coloquially in Argentina. You can see it on the wing. The Black front wing edge expands removing ice.
@@0neo I see those Black edges on the videos .maybe the accident has been caused by human error.cuz they dont activate the anti ice system.cuz patagonia has borders with the antarctica.and it has colder weathers .
@@SteveSideris..2k02 no, The Patagonia is not that near to Antarctica. It has been speculated that the plane entered a cold front storm by accident or a very very cold micro burst. But the real reason is unknown, the pilot was quite experienced and never had any issues, and the SAAB 340 is one of the safest planes in history.
@@0neo but why he didn't turn on the anti ice and instead to activate it.it says it will be alright after they reach level 190 or descent at level 160 .which if it has that weather and you ascend to level 190 . it's 100% risky due to ice picking.after says to descent at level 160.(which says that it will be melt at 16000ft but will be the same problem of ice)my mind confused
An unoriginal comment I guess: these videos have fantastic special effects!
Nice for me and scery
If youâve had a bad day then know that someone has had a much worse day
Why did the aircraft picthed down?
Do you see the Nokia falling off the table survive

Isn't the plane equipped with de ice or something?
Not yet seen a single video were the pilots actually manage to PULL UP.
Check Out TWA Flight 841 The Dove From 39'000 to 5'000 Rolled Twice Some How They Recovered & Landed Safely.

At least the camera man survived.
