    That was a great review Andrew. Really enjoyed that! I think the M2 Comp is potentially one of the best M cars we’ve had in recent years. It has so much going for it, and the current prices make it very very tempting indeed.
    I do urge people to take it on track, as it genuinely comes alive. It’s unbelievable. On a dry day, with the right rubber, the back end feels extremely planted and the engine pulls all the way to the redline. Unusually so for a turbo charged engine.
    Cheers 😎

    Haha I love the initial statement about being able to handle oversteer.
    I own a high powered BMW with X_Drive, I couldn’t live with a RWD one.

    Yes, you are preaching to the converted. I've owned mine for 5 years now and also test driven the new M2. The new one pretty much beats the old one across several fronts - engine, chassis and tech. But, could I stomach its looks? - NO! A polarising look to say the least. Far too often I hear phrases related to BMW's latest designs like 'it looks better in the flesh' or 'that it grows on you'. All which suggest that they didn't quite hit the mark.

      With you on that - the new 2 Series looks awful. The rear of the 240 looks rubbish (i previously had an F87 240), and the rear of the rear of the new M2 looks awful but with lipstick on. I run 2 cars and decided I wanted something special for my weekend toy, so today - yes today I kid you not - I bought myself a fully loaded M2C in the glorious hockenheim silver with less than 8000 miles. Wanted one since 2018 and now finally it is about to happen. It is literally like the missing piece of the puzzle of my life how sad is that lol.

    It’s a lovely car, very privileged as a fellow automotive journo to get the chance to drive cars most dream of! So many unknowns flying around regarding the used car market, let alone the performance car market - the amount of 0% deals, deposit contributions and bundles trying to get customer through the door. Are they working? I’m not too sure, it really depends on who you speak to. I’m seeing more cars come down in price (post virus, new cars coming through etc). Is now the time to buy? Maybe yes, maybe no - if you can stomach the thought of potentially losing money quicker should prices fall again, go ahead… but I don’t think anyone has the right answer. Great video as always though!

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Před 6 měsíci +3

      Thanks so much Ryan. I've kept my ear to the ground over the last few months as December is the time for bargains traditionally and I don't think this year is any different. However good ICE cars, well presented and priced well are selling OK. The main issue is there is a lot of stock bought in late summer sitting around unsold. Same dealers buying correctly priced cars today will do just fine but they have to take a hit on existing stock and move on. They've had it bloody good for the past 2 years so I wouldn't feel sorry for them! Another factor is a lot of ICE cars are going out of production either permanently or awaiting facelifts. GT4 production has stopped, R8 production must be winding down. Mk8 GTI deliveries are drying up pending the facelift, even RS3 which has nose dived is no longer available to order. Also inflation down and pressure on Bank of England to reduce interest rates could help.

    • @ryan_aex
      @ryan_aex Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@volkswizard exactly that - like you say, it’s all the older stock which seems to be more of an issue and where the hit is being taken. Most dealers should be okay, it’s the ones who have really inflated the prices who may run into issues. While anecdotal, you can see the same issue on the private market as well with more and more sellers are needing to bring down their prices as they are simply asking too much for a car, believing it’s worth more due to inflated prices. An early Focus ST150 was up for sale near me at nearly 9k, normal age related marks exterior wise, it had almost 200k miles on the clock - it sold in the region of £3,500 which is a big price drop, albeit you could watch the price go down weekly over the 4/5 months it was advertised for.
      Nice, clean and well presented performance cars will always be sought after, especially in the change over period of facelifts, end of production and switch to electric. Shall be interesting to see how new sales are influenced by the upcoming ZEV mandate, but lots of promise coming from VW with the ID.2all concept coming in a few years, Audi’s A6 e-tron and cars which don’t fit into the usual faux SUV category.

      I drove both the comp and og lci back to back and I left with the 2018 m2 LCI. Both were manual, there’s only a 40hp difference between the two cars. They feel different because the power is more linear on the twin turbo set up in the s55. However the n55b30t0 in the m2 is not the same as other n55 engines, it shares the same forged internals from the s55 the chassis is the same and so is the suspension with a slight difference in the steering feel which can be programmed to the m2 and so can the carbon fiber strut brace. The n55b sounds so good in all ranges. The n55b can be heavily modded just like the s55 and you don’t have to worry about crank hub failure. The one thing I wanted from the m2c were the seats and I was able to get a pair so now I’m happier. If I were to get an s55 car and not mod it would be the m2cs but if I wanted to mod an s55 it would be an m4. But I never chose those options (drove plenty) and I could not stand the engine or exhaust sound…. It’s just to tin and rasp sounding for me. They are both amazing and you can’t really go wrong with either. I would say if you are getting the og to atleast get one that is an LCI which started year model 2018.

      The sound thing as well, know exactly what you mean as I remember Chris Harris reviewing the S-engined car saying it didn't sound as nice. I don't hate the rasp of it but prefer the sound of the earlier engines.

    Looking at this video it appears that the "M2 comp" is a better all round car to the new "G87. I have just sold a 2020 M2 comp and now driving the new G87, i think my opinion differs sorry to upset you all guys.

    • @joshuawi99
      @joshuawi99 Před 5 měsíci +1

      The G87 is a much better daily no contest there. But you aint buying an m2 as a daily. The G87 is more an M4 than an M2. Nobody asked to get another M4….
      Thats the problem.

      I agree with you G87 is far superior car than F87 , and I had F87 for over 3 years. Only downside for me is ZF gearbox instead of dct but on the other hand it has 8 speed and its better for traffic and fuel consumption.

    Great comprehensive review, and a great sounding car - even with GPF. Love the fact the review was refreshingly unbiased - both vs the newer pretender, and vs VAG, and a good follow up to the previous rs3 zm2 comparison

      Just bought one !
      They were as low as £24,000 but I went for a 1 owner low mileage for £28,750.
      M2C are still 36k for high mileage, and over 40 for low mileage, bit pricy yet.

      Yes the S55 is a bit more powerful (but the N55 remapped will make 400-410 so just the same), and the only other differences really are the seats (I actually prefer the OG seats, as they have the extender cushion), and the wing mirrors (which can be retrofitted if ppl are that bothered).

    As good as FWD cars are getting and they are incredibly capable, think megane 275 etc. however, I always find myself going back to a RWD, it is the ultimate layout for a sports car and proper driving dynamics. Ultimately, go to a racetrack and the brands you see speak volumes. Renault, BMW, Porsche

      On a ratio of how much oversteer I was expecting vs how much I got, that was a lot of oversteer - I was just driving along normally. If that's normal for an M2 then it's a pretty unusable car for most of the year.
