There was more talent on this one show than there is in all of entertainment today.
Amen to that
Dean Martin was phenomenal. There has never been anyone who was as talented as he was, his singing, acting, comedy, and never will be. 💖
I just showed this to my 80yr old mom. she just about cried from the good memories. why aren't there entertainers like this anymore?
Dean was the coolest guy ever! What a great crooner, actor, and comedian!
Don't forget card croupier and boxer ! 😉
There is no one in Hollywood or New York anymore that are capable of putting together shows like this. I miss the LIVE variety shows.
I loved the Dean Martin show. It was entertaining, funny, and he had the greatest guest stars. Dean was the best!!!!
I had the chance to meet Dean in Bev Hills at The Bev Hills Hotel right before his passing and thanked him for his many years of bringing joy and entertainment to many for so many years. He never got over the death of his Son killed in a Calif Air National Guard training mission. He
I just got Deana Martin book about her dad call memories are made of these. It a great book if you want to understand more about her dad and his life. Only read 82 pages today and it had me laughing and crying and glad I grew up in my family. He once made a comment on his roast that "This business is not always easy". After reading the book today I understand what he meant. Made me love him and his family even more ... For sharing their dad and husband with the whole world. I realize how much his family have gone though so Dean could entertain all of us even now. It a must read book for any of Dean Martin fan.
the one written by Dean's son Ricci is also excellent.
I could listen to Dean sing anytime! His voice is velvet!

The definition of crooning
I love Dean Martin and his show. And Diahann Carroll was fabulous! Sad we lost her last year.
I never saw her before, although, somehow, I'd heard the name. Now, I know why the name registered. She was amazing. Very Bassey but more so!!
I came to america in 1965 i watched dean martin every week I am still watching him today I love the old songs and Deans style it was brilliant
My Mom loved Dean so much. Every time this show came on she watched and that meant I did too though I wasn't allowed until probably 68 or so. Even as a young boy I thought Dean was funny and likable. I didn't care much then for the music of that generation, being madly in love with 60's rock but many years later I came back to Frankie and Dean and now I just love it! CZcams is such a wonderful place to relive these classics.
Never watched Dean Martin on his TV show but liked his songs and movies
My mom cried when Dean died.
I cried when mom died.
Dino will always be a legend!!
People used to dress up when they went out in public. Nowadays most people dress like they're going to clean their garage--even school teachers can't be bothered to dress nicely. In the 60s, people cared about how they looked.
Yes, we've gone backwards!
Yes you're right !
Can you imagine someone putting this show on today?
I remember watching this when I was a kid.
My parents went to bed early ,left me with the TV.
I never missed it.
I see there are not that many, die-hard Dean fans left. This show's been on CZcams now for 4 years and is still under 300,000 views. Many modern shows get that in a week or less, but you know...today's shows can't come close to the quality of art...that these 60's shows displayed. Dean Martin I found, died on Christmas Day 1995. He was truly a gift to this world, and I would like to think....he's now....a heavenly gift to our Father Above. RIP dear Dean'o!!!
He was and still is the best entertainer ever
I remember watching his show with my mom and dad. Great times!
Me too he was so fine and funny
Dean Martin was an entertainment legend. He was just as good with the jokes and one-liners in addition to the music. I was born in 1961 and have memories of watching these variety shows. Whole families would gather together. Dean’s Christmas specials were awesome as well.
When I came to Canada in 1966 I watched his show, didn't understand much English then, but I loved his TV show
anyway, with my husband translating. Best TV show ever since !!!
No one ever wore a tuxedo like Dean.
Robert Rutger m
So true.
Sinatra was close in wearing of the tux. I soo miss these real entertainers!!
Yes he was. They were the best and it is such a shame there aren't many like them left. I will say that Tom Stevens does a really good Dean Martin however and is definitely worth checking out in my opinion.
Class. In those days going to Vegas was about fashion and style. Now, it's cargo shorts and t-shirts.
The Dean Martin Show 1965-1974
Great show!!!!
The song he's singing going back to Houston was recorded in 1966 so how could he be saying the song 1965
@@thomasnorman9536 "Houston," written by Lee Hazlewood, was originally recorded by country singer, Sanford Clark in 1964. Dino recorded his version in 1965, where it spent nine weeks on the pop charts in August, '65, peaking at #21. As this show aired in September (and likely taped a couple weeks prior), Dino showcased "Houston" on the show right when the single was on the charts.
brQqadness
I was just a kid but I watched this every time I could. His stage presence is perfect.
I still miss Dean and cry when I think about him not being around. Thank goodness we have his records and videos like this to still watch him! I was almost 10 when his 1st show went on the air.... My kids thought he was my father when they were little because my dad looked a bit like him. And yes women loved my dad too. They knew a good thing when they saw one!
On
Im not the only one who crys😭
I've recently become a fan of Dean Martin (due in part to my best friend being obsessed with Frank Sinatra--we're both 19!) and I love watching these old videos. Thanks for uploading!
I wish more young people could experience this. It was truly amazing. I lived through it.
Dean was far better than Cranky Franky.
Good on Dean and Frank for kissing Dianne Carol. It must have sent the racists in apoplectic fits.
Love, love her.
You will never see the likes of them again. To much PC these days.
I use to watch the Dean Martin show every week when I was a kid!
All iconic performers on one show and Diahann Carroll...she looks ravishing!
OMG, Dean Martin is like the drug Ecstacy for me !
Whether his Songs, the Roasts, or this Show; put on Dino and all the World's Troubles melt away !
I agree he is the best pain reliver there is for my choric pain. I just turned something with Dean in it and my pain melt away.
I felt so sad when dean lost his son in an airplane accident. He made so many people feel happy and warm inside. but when he was in grief, he was the only man on earth with No dean martin to cheer him
Love to hear Dean sing Huston.
Dean Martin was the greatest singer, actor entertainer over the past 100 years. It may take another 100 years before we see a talent like him again.

If ever
Everybody thinks I'm a weirdo for liking Dean Martin. I laughed in the first minute of this. He was such an awesome guy.
Hey they are the weirdos if they don't like Dean Martin. who do they like No talent Kanye?
What is wrong with talent, great entertainment, family fun, and decent jokes and behavior? Liberalism.

this is called talent
I slip back into my teen yrs whenever I watch these classic shows.....
I watched all his tv shows in the day. A weekly must. Thanks for the memories.
The Dean Martin Show was like a one hour party every Thursday night.
we all , even as children used to watch it as children. my mother liked dean martin. we all like the part when he would jump on the piano for a chat with Ken the pianist. he was so full of jokes . never took himself seriously on the show.
And, I was there!
he sure looked like he was having fun. like no cares in the world. !
Australia loved the Dean Martin Hour.
My parents always watched Dean...they didn't care for Bob Hope but they loved Dino...
Back in the day when almost no one was one dimensional. They took singing, dancing and acting lessons and it showed. Super entertainers that we will never see again. Dean had stated on more than one occasion that he absolutely loved to sing.
Just looked up the word COOL and there was a picture of Dean!
You're right. Now look up the words GORGEOUS, SEXY, LUSCIOUS, and HEART THROB, and you'll find the same picture!

DM had one of the best variety shows around. The shows were a dying breed even then, but his endured into the early 70s.
Not a dying breed at all. The Dean Martin Show started a trend, and variety shows aired widely for the next twenty-five years. Variety shows were, in fact, enormously popular for a long, long time after this show aired.
They hung on until the Bradys. They were great, I watched a few times but it didn't last. The best part is how much fun Robert Reed was having. Brady Bunch Variety Show.
Hey Pally, you really did an enormous service by posting this premiere episode of the legendary Dean Martin Show...I didn't know it was so packed with superstar guests....every deano fan owes you big time...thanks again!
Dino.
I was only six months old when this first aired but I do remember watching this with my family as I got older. Good memories. So good to be able to watch them again!
Did this first air in 1986?
@@robertsprouse9282 I think it was 1965.
Joey Heatherton was a great talent as was Newhart, Sentara, and so many others. Dean had some of the best. I loved this show.
what a voice, what a personality, funny, talented to a hilt, ...a real nice entertainer.
A talented genius!! Dean was the greatest!
@@Forevertrue ihave been binge watching jerry and dean old movies someone uploaded on youtube. what a treat. esp when we are staying home with govt orders ...! both so talented. jerry was so young and crazy. I SOMETIMES wonder how dean tolerated his antics. you could see not all was scripted. but there was LOVE between them. But their split was inevitable. when 2 geniuses have to part its for better thngs ahead as we have seen.
There was no one like Dino Crocetti of Steubenville, Ohio. Read Nick Tosches' biography of him. Not always pretty, but Dean was a good man.
Yeah, Bob Newhart was the whole package, wasn't he?
I'm of the theory that Dean learned a lot from Jerry; and vice-versa. Dean learned how to be comedic, and Jerry, who could carry a tune pretty well, must have taken a lot of singing pointers from Dean when they were partners. As Dino himself once said (paraphrasing), "The two best things that ever happened to my career were (1.) the Martin & Lewis partnership and (2.) ENDING the partnership."
these 60s variety shows are unforgettable so much better designed for all the family who sat together and smiled, laughed and enjoyed another show was sunday night at the london palladium
How I miss these great old shows with real Entertainers!!! Dean Martin was such a natural!!! So much talent. So much fun! And we know the drinking was a joke, We have no one like this today. No one who can entertain us without fireworks and explosions and electronics!.. I can bet I was on my nanny's lap (grandmom) for this and all the other Dean Martin shows!! How miss these entertainers!!
"There's no point in singing the whole song...you might not buy the record!" LOL
I love this first episode with all the well wishers dropping on as well as the invited guests too, just as good as the rest until the last, thanks!!!
Thanks, Deano. Boy does that bring back some great memories. I guess you have to be ancient like me to know how great these shows were. It's my 80th birthday today and this has been the best treat EVER!
Happy birthday & Many more happy healthy returns.....
Dino.
Happy 82nd babe.
Happy Birthday, Janet, I had my 70th birthday October the 4 I remember watching these
@@tomcarpenter700 Hope you are having a Happy one, too. Every day from now on, I just thank God for another day with no mistakes in it. The older I get the least mistakes I make. Today I watched my grandsons putting up a new entertainment center for me. I had a thought come to me that they are worried I may need help seeing the screen or hearing the movie and they got that covered - JUST IN CASE< L O L Awe, I am so glad to have such loving kids to look after me; at least the entertainment. I am sure it is to keep me in my seat so that I don't get carried away with singing and dancing. I do much of that in private now mostly to keep me in shape and amuse myself. My family feels put upon if I engage them in wanting to see their talents. My background in radio scares them half to death and you can see them skirt around me when I am in that mood. They just aren't sure just how much "ham" I want. (as much as I can get!) So, we'll see what it is they expect of me now. Maybe it is just their way of telling me to sit this one out- yeah, they wish! (I wouldn't dare tell them I am still 17 and no plan to change; it has served me well).
What a treat! I loved the Dean Martin Show. Although I don't recall seeing the very first show. I didn't know they were in BW. I remember the ones in color. Nothing like the entertainers of yesteryear. Watching this episode it pained me to realize that most of the stars who appeared are gone. It was great growing up with this kind of entertainment. I don't even bother watching what the networks pass off as programs now.
"The Dean Martin Show" was broadcast in color. This a b&w 16mm kinescope film. In that era it was a practice to create a film copy for NBC network affiliates that did not carry the original feed due to other programming. They would get permission to air the show on a delay, a different day and time. NBC would ship a 16mm black and white film print of the original color taping for the local TV station to broadcast. I used to work for an ABC station in Shreveport, LA and a show that we delayed to another day and time was ABC's "Iron Horse" which ABC broadcast Sunday nights in color. We ran it the following Saturday at 5pm in the afternoon using a 16mm black and white print that ABC shipped to the station. Bottom line is, all of the Dean Martin variety hour shows beginning with the very first 1965 show were broadcast in color on NBC.
@@hershelorg Thank you! I only remembered the show in color. Appreciate the clarification.
@@sharigreen9252 Shows in color preserved in color from this time are exceedingly rare. One of the oldest examples is the Dinah Shore Show with Louis Prima and Keely Smith. Color videotape was very new and expensive and they were almost always re-used until the tape wore out.
I was born in 1964 and by the time I started kindergarten I knew the words to every Dean Martin song - my mother played his records daily ... hearing "Houston" just took me back to playing in my bedroom and hearing that record playing from the living room :)
My mother loved Dean Martin. She had all his albums and never missed his show. I grew up loving him too. My dad was of Italian descent, and did look like Mr. Martin. He would just laugh and joke at least he got the girl ! Cheryl
I was only 10 years old and I used to watch this show with my parents. I love Dean Martin and his Gold Diggers.
You must look for the old Christmas album featuring the Gold Diggers. Mine listed a year, so maybe every year they had a new one produced....don't know.
Dean was the Best for any age group a smooth operator great entertainer singer, comedian ,actor host you name it he did and oh so smoothly
It was a great show with so many great guests. A true blue variety show. Every week. They're all gone now. And nothing has replaced them. Carol Burnett. Dean Martin, Marty Robbins, etc. etc. Yeah. And even Hee Haw.😍
I'm only 40 years old, but I don't watch modern television at all. I hook the computer up to the TV and the family and I watch all these old shows instead.
That's how it's done!!!
When television was worth watching, when the greats were still with us. Grateful to have seen it, the handful of artists of this caliber are gone forever.
Im 13 and I watch this
God is Good and this too...
VCR Time Machine Very cool . TV today sucks so bad they have no idea what comedy really is. God bless you..
Loved all of his shows, he was the best.
I'm going back to Houston
THIS IS PURE GOLD.How fun they had together on stage Dean and Frank. This made my entire summer
Outstanding! Thank you for posting. Brings back memories of when my parents watched The Dean Martin Show.
Wow. Diahann Carroll was incredible.
Shes in musical heaven now.RIP.
The three best standards and broadway tunes lady singers of the 1960's:
1. Diahann Carroll
2. Vikki Carr
3. Nancy Wilson..
And the rest are a distant fourth or worse..
Marvelous voice, great stage presence, and an exceptional beauty.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this! I'm too young to have seen it when it aired and finding episodes is so damn difficult! Thank you so much for posting this wonderful gem of talent!
Cheers!
Slow, but fun. I grew up watching reruns of variety shows with my parents.
Amazing! Dean Martin never dranked, but act like he did.
The information you've got is not exactly accurate. The original written source of the often quoted story about Dean Not drinking is from his son Ricci's biography. What he actually said Was that the "booze" he drank on stage was often only apple juice. and he added no one could perform like his dad or frank Sinatra if they were shit faced. He did not however say that his dad was a teetotaler If your old enough to remember, adult men Drank and smoked back then. They drank and smoked Allot!
Fantastic to see after all these years! It's been 51 years!
One of the very best Dino
This show is from 1965....so now it's been 55 years. Time marches on!!!
He really was a charming man.
There is nothing weird about liking Dean Martin he was a very good singer dancer, actor, comedian, smooth talker, all around nice fun man, besides you have a mind of your own and like or not it is whatever you enjoy that makes you feel good and happy too,so enjoy!!!
I watch that talented handsome man every day
he was the best ever to me
I still enjoy watching his tv show and listening to his music.
Dean Martin was and will always be the king of class
Dean Martin will and will always be the king of class
Every time I hear that haunting theme song of 'Everybody loves somebody sometime' I get goosepimples!
I watched Dean Martin with my mum and older sister back in the day . I was 12 and remembered trying to translate to my mum who’s English was limited at the time , I’d miss half the show translating 😂 My late Mum loved Dean Martin till the end , two years ago 😢 I’m now 67 and still love him ❤so many wonderful memories and love his voice. He was a STAR 🌟 I hope he’s serenading my Mum now ❤ and my late Dad doesn’t get jealous, he also loved Dean . I hope they’re all RIP ❤❤❤ thanks for the memories 🙏❤️
One of the greats. Such an easy going laid back manner. And he could sing as well
I love these shows, especially Dean Martin, hardly scripted yet it was a perfect mixture of light humour & live entertainment.... CLASSIC, thank you for sharing this memorable show with us.
i can not believe that i am watching Dean martins first episode AMAZING! thank you, love you DEANO! XX
These old guys who learned it the hard way in the casinos are the best. There is no way you can repeat that today.
Grew up on this stuff....thank you for sharing & bringing back sweet memories !
My time machine is here now; thanks pals.
Well im hooked. 1000% charm
OMG, Diahann Carroll was a) an unbelievable singer, b) a total pro onstage, and c) a goddess! So glad to be introduced to her.
She could've done a Bond theme.
I love the song, "Houston". Of course, I'm from there. :-)
He was so classy. My role model
Priceless treasure.......................
Pure Gold.
everybody loves somebody I still listen on my itunes I have love it forever :)
Love going back in time to this era.....sometimes 'yesterday' seems so much better than today......manners & decency isn't that difficult to achieve.....
I agree wholeheartedly.
Yvonne Rocchio brooo that’s how they wore REGULAR clothing, now adays, we see people wearing what people in their day called rags 😂
I am a young 85 years old the stars and performers of DEANS ERA WILL NEVER BE IMPROVED UPON. Have I said enough?
Yes sir!
Back then it was little better and little worse. Every decade has both.
Great days, the days of Great talent. If they show every single show on here, you will see how they made changes here and there. Things that didn’t work were dropped, things were added, till they got the right combination and boy, did they find it in a short time. 😎
Gotta love this. Dean really was the King of Cool and Frank was his usual mischievous wonderful self.
Dean? the funniest man, kind and styilish as well. I often listen to his italian semi-broken words. cute! Great testimonial of the italian soul. GRAZIE DINO PER TUTTO CIO' CHE HAI REALIZZATO. Live forever!!.....
Thanks for posting this; my late mom was with the show for its entire run, and then into the comedy roasts that succeeded the weekly series. She’s even listed In the end credits Of this episode as “Production Assistant”, and worked her way up to become Director-Producer Greg Garrison’s assistant. It’s very cool to see her name saved in perpetuity on YT.
Your mother lived in America's best and most grand days. Sadly, we are in a very steep decline and only a move of God can bring us back from the cliff. Thanks for sharing this about your dear Mom....
We have to make the move, NOT GOD! Having great entertainment is one of the secondary benefits of being a GODLY nation. What is our entertainment like now? Case closed! Richard from Alabama (ROLL TIDE!!!!!)
Danny Thomas. That makes me so happy.
A voice like no other. It looked so easy for him to sing Velvet voice he was of the 60’s which was a weird time of excess in everything. I alway love to hear him sing.
Watching this show on an interference-ridden VHF channel in the 1960s brings back so many fond memories. Thank you ❤
Deans 1st show may have been his best . I remember watching the Dean Martin Show every week with my parents and this one had each one of are favorites in it. My dads, Frank Sinatra (old blue eyes), my moms, Dean ( the king of cool) and mine Joey Heatherton
