      From way back too, he was so scary in the Dirty Harry movie where played "Scorpio" and his acting has such a flair of it's own. I was happy to see him so much on DS9

      I think his best DS9 moment was during the episode about the fake data rod presented to the Romulan Ambassador, where Sisko barges in and slaps Garak, then Garak goes on and reveals what he had planned all along, it was even more genius than I thought in the beginning.

    Andy Robinson played my most favorite character in all of Star Trek:
    Elim Garak
    Simply the best, most complicated, intriguing and beguiling character ever written for and acted on Star Trek Deep Space Nine!!!

      He was probably one of the best characters made on TV period. How many other characters on TV can compare or exceed the complexity and entertainment of Robinson's character? Very few.

    • @NormAppleton
      @NormAppleton Před 5 lety +2

      Oh yeah. He was the hinge of it all. He gave Worf reason to exist on DS9, creating Martok at the same time
      He gave Quark humanity, very few things on DS9 didn't develop without his involvement. He saved the show.

    That was the crux of DS9 - all the characters had complex personalities and past histories that gave them all emotional strengths and weaknesses. No one was "the perfect Starfleet officer/hero" stereotype. DS9 was Star Trek for a more mature and cleverer audience than the other series. I would say that DS9 was designed to make you think first and entertain second whereas the other shows were vice versa.

Garak, brilliantly played as he was, legitimises this series above all the others as something which isn't just cowboys with ray guns but demonstrates how scifi can mirror real experiences, people and life. A pity that he wasn't sold on the Mirror Universe Garak scriptwriting though - I don't think the MU episodes were ever meant to be deep or meaningful, they were just simple, old-fashioned fun and he had a wonderful master/servant comedy dynamic going with Michael Dorn.

    I think the final question, in every interview with DS9 cast members, should have been "if a reasonable opportunity, with the right script came along, to make you that character again, for a season of TV, or a special, or a movie (but not a 7 year commitment) would you ever want to put on that character again, and be them again?"

    wanted a spin off series for his character, that would have been good, had it used the same writers

      Such a series would play out like James Bond or Mission Impossible,with new and different planets being the backdrop for his"assignments"..

    I recall an interview in which he said that he was out of work for years, after being typecast as a psycho-killer via his psycho-killer role in the first of the Dirty Harry movies. Garak's makeup gave him something to hide behind :-)
