- Case 284: Widden Hill Farm
** Content warnings: Animal cruelty, gun violence **
43-year-old Graham Backhouse lived a peaceful life with his wife and children on Widden Hill Farm in Horton, England. But in 1984, a campaign of harassment directed at Graham left him fearing for his safety.
When his wife Margaret Backhouse becomes the victim of a targeted attack, investigators consider who could have a motive to hurt the loving couple. The focus soon turns on a neighbour, Colyn Beadle-Taylor, but all is not what it seems.

'Unreasonable behaviour' is a crazy way of describing attempted murder
With divorce there at the time, there were specific categories and this would have been the closest fit. It’s merely an admin matter and doesn’t really matter now. Each specific category would have certain consequences and is merely part of an often complex decision-making process.
And yes, it does look rather silly given the actual crime so many decades ago.
Wow what a devious evil man. Glad he was brought to justice
Saturday morning is kicking off just perfect now.
I have vision problems. These are ideal as in sound.
Check out the Casefile podcast - it’s all audio, and they’ve got hundreds of episodes. I think it’s the best true crime podcast out there 👍
Yes....me too! I listen on Spotify 😊
What a conniving, scheming man. What a tangled web he wove for himself, all for money. To be honest, I’m surprised Margaret agreed to the life insurance policy. It seems she knew he was a womaniser, and that the farm was in financial ruin…… if my husband had suggested it, I’d have ran for the hills! There’s a huge culture of life insurance policies in the USA isn’t there? people are always bumping each other off for sums of money. This in certainly a complicated story, cheers! ✌🏻👍🏼
This is in England
I so enjoy these early morning cases
Evening here in Australia 😂❤
Listening @10.45 pm 18/5/24 .. Regards, enjoy another awesome Case File presents...
From Melbourne, Victoria, Australia 🦘🇦🇺
Best content ever, so much detail shows the amount of research the guys at Casefile presents put in to each true story.. Cheers from Melbourne Victoria Australia 🦘🇦🇺
What a mastermind. He really thought the police wouldn’t see right through him, and notice the giant pile of cash sitting behind him, like it isn’t their job to catch greedy goblins running around.
Well told story, Anonymous Host!
Every Saturday I'm so happy because my favorite comes out with a new episode!
2,662 views in 5h? That's great! Think I'll keep listening 😉
Casefile is sooo underrated!
I started listening to this channel a few months ago and hands down one of the best ❤
Another one well done, Casefile....💔
Plz tell me the note said “‘ewe’ next”
😂😂😂
Oh , nice one indeed!!!!!!!
When he said the note said you next I just started dying laughing because that’s exactly what I thought of. I wanted to see if anybody else had caught that.
@@s2bling I love a good pun 🤣
Just posting for the algorithm :)
Great episode. Good slueth work. How much evidence does a jury need?
Hooray , my fix has arrived
Yes world, hope this message finds u all well? 😎🙏👊👍✌🇬🇧
Thank you , very well here in Co Galway.
Thank you for covering this case, it was very local to me at the time. I remember it very well, I was about 14 when it happened and it was on the regional news - Graham Backhouse was interviewed by local reporters regularly after his wife was blown up by the car bomb. It was a really shocking story at the time and later when he was interviewed again by the local press with stitches all over his jaw, it was even more shocking. But then even before he was charged I remember that a lot of people just didn’t believe him but we were still all really shocked that he would slash his face like that.
Damn! When you make a comment like this, telling everyone the END BEFORE most have finished the video you need to put up a notice: SPOILER ALERT!!!! How rude!!!
@jennyterrell6354 m9st comments on here do that actually! ......listen before reading in future 😮
Sounds like karma caught up with him.
I love being awake so early I see these notifications 🙌🙌🙌
Wow! What a rabbit hole! Cheers for yet another brilliant case mate.
It's certainly brought some enjoyment to my Saturday night. ☺
Best AI Narrator in the business!
From the beginning something wasn't right! Very convenient scape goat.
Wow. Cattle rustling used to be punishable by death.
Great content ❤
I panicked when I heard “shorter”. I love ❤️ the hour long episodes… that’s why I subscribed to the channel. PLEASE 🙏 DONT SHORTEN THE EPISODES
This is the kind of content I'm here for. 👍
Thanks Matey 👍
I never miss any of your stories ❤
Me neither, I watched them all
Excellent - as per usual !!!!!
Restore furniture and the whole village will love you, good to know
❤ thanks
All tragedy aside, the Volvo being completely gutted by the pipe bomb but hardly any evidence from the outside is such a Volvo thing.
Love this channel!
Convoluted but ultimately stupid murder plot. Raising the life insurance on his wife is the first thing cops look at, and when they see it, he's under the microscope from then on.
Yes, "follow the money" is the expression, isn't it? Shocking how many people don't know how disposable they can become if financial ruin is around the corner.
Just gotta say, AH your voice is amazing.
Oh thats so sad for both families
Hi everyone
Not exactly a criminal mastermind
What a massive miscarriage of justice. Poor Graham.
Poor margaret so sad and the children have lost there horrible dad and lovely mum a lying evil dad

Wonder, why That Chapter is more popular?
There is another podcast I accidentally listened to with the similar name as yours
Were they any good?
Another good YT narrator is rotten mango.
Was the first note spelt "EWE NEXT " ?.😂
Backhouse gonna be getting backshots in prison
YAY 🤘
Is this a reupload ? Why do they do this
- Good morning! Crisis Help Center here...
- Oh, hello...i just watched a video on YT and I'm awfully disturbed and have gone crazy...🥳🤪
Why do you sound like coffeehouse crime?
This very clearly Australian narrator sounds nothing like the very clearly British dude on that channel to me. And this podcast is vastly superior imo
