- Lucky Jordan is a 1942 film directed by Frank Tuttle and starring Alan Ladd in his first leading role, Helen Walker in her film debut and Sheldon Leonard. The screenplay concerns a self-centered gangster who tangles with Nazi spies.
Plot
Lucky Jordan (Alan Ladd) is gangster living in New York City. When he's drafted into the army, he tries to escape duty by using an old con woman named Annie (Mabel Paige) to convince the draft board he's needed at home. When that fails, Jordan is sent to boot camp, but he doesn't stay long. He takes a beautiful USO worker (Helen Walker) hostage and flees back to New York. There, he learns that a rival gangster (Sheldon Leonard) is plotting against America.
I was 6 years old in 1942 and spent the 1940s totally in love with Alan Ladd, my boyhood hero. I am now 88 and surprisingly, still enjoy his films when available so much. So, many thanks for making this film available on CZcams for universal viewing. England, April, 2024.
GODBLESS YOU stay strong ok thanks for posting
👴🏻🥃 SOOO HOW OLD IS U 900?
@@paulyricca3881 Do the math.
Gee! You're 20 years older than me and I feel old. I'd definitely trade ages with you. I didn't know I was gonna be born just before the beginning of the end of the world!
@@paulyricca3881your stale attempt at humor is 1,000 years old.
Alan Ladd has always been one of my ten favorites movie stars, along with John Wayne, Clark Gable, Bing Crosby, Robert Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Robert Mitchum, Burt Lancaster, Jeff Chandler, Charlton Heston. God bless them for all the joy they gave us and still do every time we find films like this.
Excellent print quality , great movie , no commercials . Thank you so much , DK Classics III
Alan Ladd in his prime. The dialogue in this movie is priceless, and he and Sheldon Leonard delivered it flawlessly. Keep up the good work, DK.
Alan Ladd was quite a star. Off camera he apparently was a family oriented all american male. He's seems to be a softie one a boy would love fir a father. I always see him in that light for some reason its stuck in brain.
👴🏻🥃 YUP GREAT MOVIE

Even though Alan Ladd was a small man in stature, he was a big actor! A great personality with a lot of swag!❤🎉🎉
Alan had a big mans penetrating voice and presence , was very physically fit and was cast against smaller leading ladies . To many who watched during his glory years he was a big man on a very big screen !
A fine movie! Excellent performances by all. Loved Alan Ladd and Helen Walker.
This film set all sorts of attendance records when released. Ya gotta love the opening scene with Alan Ladd's seatrance. Thank you.
DK, thanks for this lost oldie. WWII era stateside made movie. Alan Ladd served in the Army in real life, for a short period, January to November 1943, received medical discharge due to ulcer and double hernia. Helen Walkers car should have a gas rationing decal sticker on lower right windshield. 😊
Welcome!
At his size, he would have been a good fit for the Air Corps.

"You can't fix Washington," (20:25) best line of this fun flick. And so true!! (Cool skyline of 1942 NYC at 27:56.) Great ending, classic Alan Ladd! Thanks for posting.
This is so GREAT. the spirit of wartime 1940 thank you so much!!!!!
You are so welcome!
The old lady, Alan Ladd’s “mother,” is brilliant!
That's Mabel Paige (1880-1954)
@@brandex2011 Most definitely a talented actor. Great performance here.
Sweet old lady that anyone would want for a grandmother.
Yup, she's a sweet "ma".
Fun watch, no real dead spots, plot and acting surprisingly entertaining, lots of great one liners, definitely worth the time.

@@user-yq3nu5hd6n British black and white film is my favorite. I also enjoy the 1800 years. I do enjoy the movies that are being made into color but I prefer watching them in black and white. Jimmy Cagney and his gangster movies are some of the best films ever made. My favorite actor,White Heat...Bette Davis in Now Voyager and I have seen this movie a dozen times. The films today just don't have the pizzazz although Shawshank Redemption would be my pick for outstanding films in color.

I had to stop the movie and fix up some popcorn. A1 film. Thanks for providing it, commercial free helped to make it enjoyable.

Helen Walker. Beautiful and so talented.
Her career was wrecked by a fatal car-crash
She was the epitome of evil in "Nightmare Alley" and hilarious in "Brewster's Millions." Gorgeous.
“Stay where you are Sauerkraut!” You couldn’t get away saying that today.🤣😂
Oh, stop playing the victim. Of course, that could be said.
Ladd's producer said he has two expressions: hat on and hat off.
... and Robert Mitchem said: I have two acting styles. With or without a horse. lol
But his producer was wrong. Ladd could project his inner self and that's what makes him good.
Never heard of this one so glad to be able to watch it, thankyou
Helen Walker was perfectly cast for her role and is clearly enjoying it :) Nice movie...Actually, the war meant that many top actors were in the armed forces, making room for Alan Ladd to get leading roles. Which he handled perfectly !
This movie is anthropologist goldmine! ❤
Very nice movie.❤❤❤
This Movie is a war years classic 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿. Loved the Patriotic agenda. The old Lady stole the show. Acting was on the money . Held my interest from beginning to end.
Nicely done, thank you for this video 😊.

So nice of you
Love this actress!! (And OF COURSE Alan Ladd) I'm going to look up some more of her films!!!
For a complete change of pace, watch her in Edmund Goulding's Nightmare Alley (1947) with Tyrone Power.

Great movie thank you DK!
Interesting/informative/entertaining. Enjoy viewing the cars/gas stations/dwellings/furniture/clothing of that era. Realistic citizens/gangsters/army personal. Roll over play dead no gory stuff-!!!🤗. Ok, looking👀 at the army gal. I remember seeing her in a few other movies. Remember Ladd in perhaps 6 movies???🤔.

@@alexandradane3672 Try a mixture of Magnesium and Melatonin. Or, Benadryl. You should also have a thorough sleep study done.
my favorite movie on my DVR that I go to bed with is “a dangerous profession “with George raft. I have started to watch that movie more times than I can guess, definitely in the hundreds. I have never made it halfway through..
I have to be careful which movies I try to go to sleep with because the music in the movie may be too loud or there may be screaming or gunshots, especially old Warner Brothers movies. They really crank up the volume of the music during dramatic scenes. The reason I have to be careful is because I don’t want to wake my wife up. so there are not very many movies I can put on to put me to sleep. But after all this time, I can have the volume pretty low when that George raft movie is on, because I know all the lines in the first 15 minutes of the movie.
my wife on the other hand goes to bed two hours before I do. I don’t know how she can tolerate it, but she puts on that Roseanne Barr sitcom with the canned laughter or the nanny sitcom with the canned laughter between the blocks of commercials with jingles or pharmaceutical commercials to give you things to worry about..
thank goodness for old, black-and-white movies from the timeperiod when everyone had class, even the bad guys
Stay away from sugar and caffeine. Use Magnesium and Melatonin at bedtime.
Excellent thank you !!!
Nice movie.
Great wartime film. Helen Walker, hubba, hubba...
“STAY WHERE YOU ARE, SAURKRAUT!!” 👍🏼😄😄
Good movie the best actress was the older lady who played "mother" and Alan Ladd is always good. I read that he was an athlete in high school.
Ladder was a top swimmer
Great film very entertaining and a great laugh
The comic moment in the toyshop...😂
It's interesting to watch all the ways they have Alan Ladd standing next to taller people. He was only 5'6". He sits, stands behind furniture, you know he's standing on a box in some scenes. He was also very thin and a boys build.
I can't believe they said "panty waste"
Alan Ladd was pretty good. And Helen Walker.
Unfortunately the end looks like as if the production ran out of money. Nevertheless of course: Thanks a lot for uploading and sharing this great old movie. 👍👌👏
Best regards luck and health in particular.
Thugs then had class. War time movies where even a bad guy gould be a hero. Enjoyable. Thanks
Classic anti hero! Yeah society had class. Not romanticising the time but even the scylian mob usually had minimum standards. Since barbarians weren't good for biz
was this his first leading role? according to order of his films on IMDB, looks like 4th of 5 films starring films in 1942! Lucky Jordan was a very much enjoyed film for me, only seen here on youtube...usually seek dvds from California Libraries! Always liked Alan Ladd! [Helen Walker was very much enjoyed, as comic foil to Mr Ladd, plus Sheldon Leonard as usual, Mabel Paige was enjoyed and Lloyd Corrigan too...sad to read @ imbd Mr Ladd apparently attempted suicide @ one point, and died @ young age of 51, and also his bio there reports difficult life...sad but he lives on in his movie roles...THANKS 4 PROVIDING THIS ONE ONLINE! MOST ENJOYED and will watch again going forward!
Top movie!

I love Helen Walker... she was just being nice when she picked up 3 hitchhiking sailors that had liquor with them and she ended up wrecking her car and ruining the rest of her life.

@@monicaclark9581
Walker had just finished filming Her Adventurous Night (1946) and was set to begin Heaven Only Knows[1] when an auto accident drastically disrupted her career. On December 31, 1946,[2] while driving a convertible coupe[9] belonging to director Bruce "Lucky" Humberstone from Palm Springs to Hollywood on U.S. Route 99,[9] she picked up three hitchhikers: first, a soldier named Robert E. Lee, and later 18-year-old students Philip Mercado and Joseph Montalde.[10] Near Redlands, California, the car slid off the road into a dirt division strip and rolled for more than 300 feet, flipping over as many as seven times and ejecting all four passengers. Lee was killed as his head struck the pavement,[9] and Walker and the other two passengers were seriously injured.[11] Walker suffered fractures to her pelvis and clavicle as well as a crushed foot,[9] and spent more than a month in the hospital.[12] Mercado, who had been thrown nearly 80 feet (24 m) from the car,[9] sued Walker for $150,000,[13] claiming that Walker was driving "like a fool," ignored his requests to slow down and diverted her attention from the road to ask for a cigarette just before the accident.[14] Montalde sued Walker for $100,000.[15] The police estimated that Walker had been traveling in excess of 80 mph (130 km/h) and a responding officer stated that he had smelled alcohol on her breath.[14] A coroner's jury found that Walker had been driving negligently.[12] She was charged with manslaughter for Lee's death,[15] but the charge was later dismissed for lack of evidence.[16] Walker was replaced in Heaven Only Knows by Marjorie Reynolds.
Walker died of cancer

Alan Ladd! One of my Top Ten favorites.
I did hate another asinine scene writers/directors do...Ladd's old crooked pal tries to kill him, Ladd, instead of killing the rat lets him live because a stupid, stupid woman tells him not to kill the guy...another scene where they are letting a killer go. Ladd is always great but if me, I'd say no to that scene.
Do, estamos no Brasil, se não temos legendas em português, fica difícil de assistir, suas postagens e impossivel

so many cliches.

Perfect example of stiff, emotionless acting by Alan Ladd.
at the opening scene there is not a single woman in sight, yet you hear a woman scream as soon as he falls down on the sidewalk.
This type of movie trope idiocy always gets me. Is this any way to react to a guy collapsing in the street??
Before mass media in the '70s - Yes! We weren't desensitized yet. Seeing a man shot/dead was horrifying! Shocking even. Possibly the first time the person ever seen such a thing outside a western
She was on the sidewalk below the window where the shooter was. Unseen because of the angle. Cut! Print!
