Is this the STATE of Thai Airways? | Thai B777-200 Economy Class

  • Thai Airways just escaped incolvency. - What is flying Thai Airways Economy Class like in 2024 on the Boeing B777-200 - one of the long-haul aircraft that is not one of the airline's brand new ones?
Thai Airways is flying at full speed again after almost going bankrupt. In Thailand, it's chic to fly Thai Airways instead of low-cost.
On the airline's most important domestic route between Phuket and Bangkok, we take a look at Economy Class in the Thai Airways Boeing B777-200, which not only flies regionally, but on routes of up to 8 hours. Everything is big - but unfortunately that's not all... The interior of the plane has been anything but well maintained!
We are greeted by a plane that is far too shabby for its age. Which is a shame for this actually beautiful and traditional airline.
I have actually been flying Thai Airways since childhood - as almost all of my relatives have lived in Thailand for 40 years. The airline used to use the Boeing B747 jumbo jet between Phuket and Bangkok. You could even sit in first class, for a relatively low price. All of that in this video.

Thanks as always for your informative and amusing commentary. I've flown Thai business medium haul twice in the past two years, once in a plane like yours (772) to Dhaka, and once a couple of months ago on an A359 to Lahore. I thought the service was great both times, and the food good, and the drink OK. But the A359 hard product was so much better. The experience at Suvarnabhumi was also good, apart from having a bit of trouble finding the business check-in; but from there it was very fast straight through security to the rather nice lounge. Thai are obviously not on a par with the real industry leaders, but they're still pretty good. I'm looking forward to your videos about the rest of the trip.

    I am currently in Bali.
To get here, I flew on a Boeing 777-300 ANA “The Room” for 13 hours from JFK to Haneda.
Then I flew on a ANA Boeing 787 Business Class to Jakarta.
Then a Garuda 737-800 from Jakarta to Denpasar.
The room business class was fantastic. I was very comfortable for the entire duration of the trip. I will also be very comfortable when I return home.
The Boeing 787 had a 2X2 layout and I hated it. Even though I had both seats to myself, the seats were so narrow. It says if they were designed against large people with big arms. Very difficult for me to get comfortable.
The Garuda was the worst of all. Not only was it a small jet, but the business class was only 2 x 2 and the chairs were visibly dirty and old. It’s exactly what you’d expect from a smaller airline using older planes.
No LCD display, no inflate entertainment. That is passable simply because the flight is less than two hours, but it didn’t feel like “business class”. It felt like a “premium economy”.
Flying nowadays, tends to be terrible unless you fly an upgraded class so that you get adequate leg space, shoulder room, and aren’t right on top of the next person.
I definitely prefer the Airbus A380 and A350 1x2x1 configuration.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I totally agree!
However, while the A380 is undoubtedly the best plane of all, there's some airlines where this aircraft doesn't offer the best flight experience in business class, e.g. British Airways or Qatar Airways

  • @volgrenfanbus1294
    @volgrenfanbus1294 Před měsícem

Thai Airways Boeing 777-200er is still in good condition but needs to be retrofitted with new seats and carpet to freshen up the plane and the experience for the passenger. I saw an article on the internet saying that Thai Airways Boeing 777-200er will be retrofitted and will also include premium economy but unfortunately that retrofitting never happen which was disappointing and the plane still got it’s live left in them. This interior was new back when the plane was delivered but they are very old now. I hope they retrofit very soon or a few years before the plane can retire. The best plane for Thai Airways is the Boeing 787-8 or 787-9 ,A350-900 ,A380 since it’s a bit dated but still good ,Boeing 747-400 with the newer style seats and the Boeing 777-300er.

I agree this plane still isn't so old, it only needs a new interior. I've made reviews of the modern Thai A350 here on the channel. Also, on my originally bilingual, now all German channel @TravelSingFly you'll find a nice review of the good old days with the B747, sitting in the house of the plane (however with the old interior). Too bad that they will never fly the A380 and B747 again.....

I fly BKK - Phuket - BKK with Thai few months ago. I felt lucky that on the first flight we got A350, however, on the return flight we got this super old and outdate 777-200. 🙄it how we see two biggggg different in their fleet.😅
And few days ago I got on the flight from Hong Kong to BKK also operated with this 777-200. After the flight I recieved "Thank you" email and the survey link, I provided some feedback to them.
I think Thai Airways better get rid of all of their 777-200 already, after all pandemic and bankrubt recovering and stuff, they bring back few 777-200. its like the black-sheap in their fleet.

    Great report, Chris!!
Often when the aircraft is so run down cosmetically, you really have to wonder about overall maintenance of the company. Is safety being compromised at all?? 😧 Or do I just worry too much.

No wonder the plane looks run down, the plane is the oldest on in the fleet 17.8years to be exact and 17years isn't really considered too old and yes the plane needs a new paintjob because it was standing in the sun for soo long and the seats are the older ones. the plane registration is HS-TJR or Nakhon Sawan.

Thank you for your report! Since the incident with the deadhead pilots in 2018, I have been boycotting Thai Airways. Long haul, Thai Airways is too expensive with only mediocre service. The only advantage is that they are the only carrier offering non-stop BRU-BKK flights from my country of residence, but that doesn't outweigh all the disadvantages. For domestic flights in Thailand, Bangkok Airways stands head and shoulders above the rest.
