When an opener was injured (Dhawan) you replace him with panth who is a middle order batsman
And when Vijay Shankar is injured who is a middle order batsman you replace him with Mayank Agarwal who is an opener
And you neglected Rayudu

That is not how it works. When dhawan got injured rahul who was actually the reserve opener took his place and shankar took the no.4 spot which he was initially selected for. Pant was called in because he was a left hander and as a possible cover for no.4 or someone who can be a floater.
With shankar out, rahul not quite comfartable opening the innnings, the team management may have felt that it was too much to ask pant to open the innings as he is doing a good job at no.4. We already have DK as cover for pant and dhoni. So the obvious replacement to shankar is a specialist opener to replace rahul in case he fails. Hence mayank who is an opener and has a stellar record in england got selected. So the replacements make perfect sense. It is unfortunate what happened with rayudu but the teams requirements must come before everything.
India dont have 3rd opener, if any of opener injured then who will play on that stage, ... So selectors selected opener replacing shankar

A big mistake was Kohl assuring him a World Cup berth 4 months before. I am hesitant to compare, but Dhoni had backed an out of sorts Ishant Sharma throughout the 2013 Champions trophy,because of his big match track record, and he defined his selection over Irfan pathan in the final. He also played the same 11 throughout. Its Kohli and his immaturity that has cost India a handy middle order batsman.

There is no politics. India needed a opening batsman. KL Rahul had a niggle. Thats why Mayank was preferred over Rayudu.
Pant was preferred over Rayudu because after the loss of Dhawan, India needed a leftie who could take on leggies and left arm spinners, the same way Dhawan negated Zampa threat easily.
Plus India's scoring rate is very slow early on in the innings. Pant would provide much needed acceleration in the middle overs.
Everything is corrupted in India, only fools will deny it.

Firstly regarding coach and captain ..if a captain and a coach doesn't match in their plans or decisions regarding the team that will result to a very bad outcome in the long run .. shastri and kohli is a best pair and thats visible in the teams past series in all formats both away as well as home what else top of the chart in icc's test and odi team ..
Secondly kohli's statement about rayudu at no4 .. he is a good player at home but at overseas conditions he always had a struggle ..also he wasn't so technical with his batting techniques so as shankar .. but shankar brings a seaming options too .. so there is no point in questioning their decision to select shankar over rayudu .. and it was so childish from his side that he made a joke out of it in tweets.. what else they need to forget about a player who played a meer 40 odis and hadn't been able to produce some quality innings .. i still believe that we can get a perfect batsman in maayank agarwal from the maturity he shown in australia recently ...he can be an opener and a middle order batsman as well if rahul or any other batsman gets injured !!..

Mayank Agarwal's Selection over Rayudu broke his confidence. A player who has not even made his debut yet is selected in wc and rayudu who was almost certain to make his place for wc squad is not selected. Raydu paid the price for being outspoken, BCCI took revenge by not selecting him bcz of his tweet.
BCCI is only doing politics and not respecting players dedication and hardwork .
Its sad to see player like rayudu ending his career like this.

Looks rusty for 2 games and removed from 3rd. Doesnt start vs NZ and then comes back in team after missing a couple of odis and then makes 90 odd on a tough pitch. Again vomes back after 3 weeks vs Aus looks rusty for 3 odis and thats it.
On the other hand you have KL Rahul, played well only in 2 t20s vs Aus and he was assured for World Cup!
