I have followed alyse for years, and here’s what I really think people are ruffled about: she had an eating disorder, then she went vegan, then she went omnivore, then she went carnivore. People who originally came to her with EDs or as vegans (or both), which make up 95% of her audience, are now confused. And in each phase she says she feels the best she’s ever felt. No, she is not responsible for her followers.. but there are a lot of younger women who follow her who are upset by the abandonment and extremes. I see both sides. I followed alyse because she use to live in a van and she moves constantly to different places, which is her content I personally like to watch. Confident girl, I like her open mindedness, I think her content just doesn’t sit well on her platform anymore despite the attempted rebrand (she use to be “raw alignment”) and I take everything with a grain of salt as she is not a dietician nor does she cite peer reviewed research studies.

me at three she also sold or conducted “health” programs, for which she is completely unqualified. She kept her videos about her crappy version of her unhealthy version of veganism and continued to profit from them while claiming this diet made her unhealthy, completely irresponsible. But your bang on, she wasn’t practicing a proper vegan diet and was extremely low on calories and protein and that’s why she felt like crap, so of course she feels better now meat has more calories and now she’s not calorie deficient.

She most likely feels better on each of these diets because she was probably suffering from some sort of ED and was nutrient deficient or calorie deficient. I don’t know what her diet was before veganism but there is a good chance it was deficient so add in a bunch of micronutrients that she wasn’t getting enough of before then of course she would feel better. Time goes on she continues or raw or some sort of plant based but she doesn’t do this diet right and is missing calories and nutrients as she has removed food from her diet but not replaced it with another source of those nutrients. Now she goes on this carnivore diet, I’m pretty sure she feels great because she is finally eating enough calories and is getting lots of iron. It’s totally possible to get iron on plant based but I’m going to assume she was likely not eating enough iron rich plant foods as she was not very diverse in her eating. There is no need to go to an extreme on any diet, omni, plant based or vegan, and I hate to say it there is probably a way to even be less extreme even as a raw foodist. Whatever diet someone does they need to be balanced in it and ensure they are getting enough of all the nutrients we need.

As everyone else has said, she has a disordered eating pattern. When she went plant based, she ate no fats and only carbs. She moved to eating like, only zucchini and fruit eventually, doing several extended fasts... of course she'd 'feel better' by eating more calories. However, for people who have watched her before, it's very clear she's doing this for the publicity/money. Even on carnivore, she eats like half a steak and has a coffee and that's it for the day. She should not be an example for anyone.

I became vegan because my gut health was awful, and after doing the elimination diet, I found that my body just really doesn't like meats and dairy at all. I also have a step-dad, who I love, who found gut health in more of a meat-based diet. We are all different, and it's ignorant to say that what works for one person will work for everyone. If you're having issues, eliminate trigger foods whatever they may be, period. I have felt so much better in the two years that I've been vegan, but I know plenty of people who feel worse. Hi!
I had an eating disorder for almost 10 years. Over-eating, under-eating, purging, extreme diets, raw veganism, etc.
I’m not the girl in the video obviously BUT I can tell, because I’ve been in therapy and hospitals for it, that she’s switching from extreme diet (no fat, only carbs raw veganism) to another extreme diet (only meat and coffee), because her ED is manifesting in new ways. She’s not starving herself, but she’s doing *extremely controlled eating* which is a form of an eating disorder.
It’s not the fact that it’s “paleo”, “vegan”, “carnivore”, but the fact that no matter *how she labels it* it’s always the most extreme side of that label with the most restrictive calories.

I've weight lifted for nearly a decade with my father who has been a bodybuilder for 55 years. I've also had a healthy natural pregnancy and homebirth completely vegan and astounded my midwives with my health.
Alyse is reckless with her platform. I have been watching her videos since she created her channel 5 or 6 years ago. She has never had a balanced diet. She started off eating nothing but fruit, doing multiple different juice and water fasts, and lying about her health to her viewers while promoting extremely unhealthy food choices.
She claims to be interested in "challenges" and "experiments" but fails to do even the most basic things to quantify her results of said "experiments". I was super interested in seeing some bloodwork or even a physical. Everything with her is "oh this is my personal journey" so she doesn't have to be held accountable for the garbage advice she spews to her audience of mostly young impressionable girls. She did it as a vegan and has been doing it even more aggressively as a nonvegan the past year.
She then charges thousands of dollars for online mentorships. Its infuriating regardless of being vegan or non vegan. She has gone on record that she isn't someone who researches things before doing something. Not exactly what you want in a mentor. But I guess if you want to be mentored by a 25 year old youtuber you deserve to be ripped off.

The big problem with Raw Alignment aka Elyse, is that she never did a sustainable, balanced vegan diet. She was like the other famous ex vegan, Rawvana-months of raw only, extensive water fasts, fruit only phases, months on the Appalachian trail eating only granola bars. Always calorie deficient, and crazy low in essential fats. Then she decided to start eating meat without telling her audience for months while still selling her vegan e-books and coaching plans-just like Rawvana. That’s why people are upset at her. She promoted terrible extreme diets, got sick from them, and still profited off them, all while lying to her audience. Then she finally starts to eat a little bit balanced and blames veganism for her issues (she tried blaming mold for a while too) when she NEVER ate a sustainable vegan diet to begin with. Oh, and to try to soften the blow and avoid backlash when she finally did come clean, she release a coloring book. So, there’s that too.

It makes me kind of sad how many people view veganism as an "extreme diet." Veganism is more about ethics than anything but that seems to go over everyone's head. When it comes to Alyse and other raw vegans, these people undereat and typically do not eat a balanced diet of various plant foods. In most cases, their health issues should be blamed on a lack of balance in their diet, not the diet itself. I'm not here to say being vegan works for everyone, because I know it doesn't, and I definitely do not want to force this on anyone. just wanted to state my thoughts. I think many people see veganism the wrong way. Again, I'm not claiming it's for everyone, but it does work for many people including myself. Just something to keep in mind :) Love your videos!

My body was always having an inflammatory response and my gut was literally being destroyed by the dietary intolerance I have. I started eating meat and stopped eating fruit all the time, as well as grains and legumes, and with that my body stopped having inflammatory responses. After returning back to an omnivore diet and discarding grains and legumes, my skin cleared up, my guts healed, my body strengthened, and my focus was a lot better. I would have probably stayed vegan if I didn't have this dietary intolerance, but because of this I realize that I have to do what is right and healthy for me.

I've been on an elimination diet now for 2 years ( I didn't know it was called that at first ) I'm now on a whole food plant based diet. I refuse to use the term vegan because quite frankly, I believe there is too much stigma with that "title". Now for some context I had some serious gut issues for well over a decade and no amount of tests, or visits to the GP was getting me anywhere they just wanted to put me on medication ( which didn't work ) and send me on my way. After 6 years I got extremely fed up of this and just put up with what I thought were the cards I had been dealt with regards to my health. I did this before going back to the doctors after 2 years of constant suffering only to be met again with just take this pill and if that doesn't work increase the dose. I was bored one day and watched a few "vegan" documentaries on the internet and one said that meat can cause an inflammation response in the human body. So I thought sod it, I'm just going to try cutting it out for a while and see what happens........... well turns out that my issues started to clear up very quickly so at that point ( 2 years ago ) I went vegetarian. I was still getting an occasional flair up but it was far more manageable. I did this up to 2 months ago where I decided that it was a good time to cut out all meat products entirely and as of today, I have had zero gut issues.I can not tell you how great I feel to be able to get a full nights sleeps sleep without having to get up several times to vomit or have constant pain which has stopped me going to work on several occasions at a time. Now this is what worked for me. I don't try to push this on anyone nor should I think people should have it forced on to them. I'm all for educating and then making informed decisions on what is best for you. Yes we are all human but we are all different so what works for me won't always work for you. When it comes to health and nutrition one size definitely does not fit all!

But over the past 3-4 years my clinical depression worsened to the point that I was not taking care of myself, so I was barely eating, when I did it was quick processed starches, so not getting enough nutrition at all, my hair was thin, my nails were brittle, my hormones were all over the place. I didn’t have any energy when I wasn’t in a bad depressive episode, so I wasn’t moving much, my muscles were degrading, I was only gaining fat in my stomach area.
I ate eggs again because it was the most nutrition I could get in the brief window I would bother to feed myself. I was upset about it and I cried and it took me a couple of months to swallow meat without gagging.
The best I can do now is only eat from animals that were allowed to graze etc. and avoid untraceable or factory farm meats/eggs.
Sorry for the wall of text, there was no short answer.

Long story short it didnt work for you, there's no shame in that. Every body is different. Veganism cleared my skin, helped my stomach issues, and made me happier. My hair is thick and healthy, my nails are strong, my energy level is great, thank goodness. I'm open for change if my body requires it, because I want the best for my body, same as you. Best of luck!

But I wasn’t eating well and I knew it would catch up with me. I slowly made the transition and now I only eat whole healthy foods. My family stills eats the SAD. They constantly make fun of me and say that I “need to enjoy my youth”. Do you have any advice on how to make them stop? Or even better, make them eat the same way I am? I hate how trying to be your best self is so looked down upon. Thanksgiving was the worst, had to make all my own food, like every other day of the year.

I think habit is more of a subconscious reflex thing whereas choosing to do something is a conscious thing. It's important to keep choosing the right things then after a while it just becomes as instinctual as eating bathing or shitting. Before that it's not easy to change your lifestyle to fit in this new thing that you're not used to doing but if you keep at it everyday then it will become just another part of your day which is why so many ppl "fail" at changing their lifestyle, they don't keep at it for long enough, then give up because it takes too much energy to get over that hurdle of trying to remember to do it instead of just making it a normal part of your schedule. When I started taking this seriously I had to write out a schedule of where to fit in working out/flexibility/mobility/cardio/yoga training/etc every week for about 6 months then I could just wake up everyday and know what I need to do instead of having to psych myself up everytime before I did it, it just became my normal routine.

I think everyone as an individual should be treated as such and no one should get backlash for finding or having what food suites the needs of there body. Just eat what works for you swap things around elimination diet is pretty much the key in finding what works for you I would reccomend that to any one. Finding your triggers , inflammation as one or even what makes you feel good I really do think that key to making the biome in our body and over all wellbeing happy.

I love the sentence you said at 2:36. I took awhile to learn that concept. Customisation of nutrition is the only way you can truly optimise your own well being. If you think about it, it makes sense. We all have different genetics. We grew up around different cultures and environments. We have different budgets and different preferences. It is an insane notion that there is only one correct way to eat. Given all the factors mentioned, and others that i left out like allergies, metabolic diseases and physical limitations etc., it is increasingly obvious that a 'right way to eat' does not exist.
The real issue is that people are lazy and dont want to put in the work. They rather eat crap put in front of them, get cancer and then expect free healthcare.

She didn’t just make a you tube Chanel....she created meal plans, reset challenges and most important a whole get away based around her “healthy, balanced life style”. I’m not vegan and follow no one on the internet to dictate my diet but I would be more than upset if I had invested my money into her and all of a sudden she completely switches what she has been telling me and is now getting fame from it. She flaunts her new fame saying “never give up” and “you do you” but that is why people were paying her a substantial amount of money to do. It has nothing to do with her diet it’s the following she created based off her life style. That’s all 🙃

The big problem here is that people do a shitty vegan diet. When they end up with problems they blame veganism in general and not their specific diet. Unnatural vegan has a video where she analyzes 'what I ate today' videos from a few vegan CZcamsrs. Lo and behold they weren't getting enough protein or other nutrients. So of course nutrient deficiencies will lead people to ditch veganism. I used to be a junk food vegan. No surprises that lead to high cholesterol and prediabetes. Now my vegan diet is much healthier and I am feeling much better. I get around 100 grams of protein a day. I take a multivitamin to compensate for any deficiencies in my diet. I have plenty of fuel to lift 3 days a week making those vegan gains. The fact is that vegan diets can be done healthfully. But people want to blame veganism for their shitty diet. A shitty diet they started because a popular vegan CZcamsr told them to eat loads of fruit and not worry about protein. Lookin at you Freelee and Kristina.
We need to be careful to get diet advice from CZcams. I like Unnatural Vegan because she cites Registered Dietitians. If you want good info on vegan nutrition I recommend the Registered Dietitians Jack Norris ( veganhealth.org/ ) and Ginny Messina ( www.theveganrd.com/ ).

As someone who is ketogenic now for two years, seeing what happens when you completly eliminate specific food groups, doing these extreme nutritional changes are extremely complex and should be monitored by a professional nutritionist and your doctor. It's really easy to make mistakes as most people that do these diets don't know squat about eating right and almost always wind up deficient. A balanced diet is always gonna be the best imo if you don't have the time to research these extreme diets.

Veganism isn’t necessarily extreme. If you’re raw vegan or fruitarian or 80-10-10; those are extreme forms of veganism. Otherwise, vegans can eat well balanced macros. Carnivore is extreme. My body isn’t so sensitive to things, so I went vegan for the animals. Yes, we’re animals too but no one is enslaving us and cooking us. A lot of vegans refuse to buy food items that exploit humans (chocolate sourced from slaves, etc).

Ughhh, so tired of people not completely getting why vegans are angry about this, or at least those of us who are long term vegans and are maybe more mature/older. I’ve been vegan about 15yrs and I’m a middle aged woman, so when I first hear about “Raw Alignment” and look into her I easily dismissed her as anyone that I wanted follow as right away I could see a lean towards some of the pseudoscience beliefs that some raw foodists follow. As someone who is experienced I can see easier than many of her inexperienced followers that her approach to the diet aspect of veganism is flawed. But really bothered me was when I found out she offered some sort of coaching, she has no training and is IMO obviously poor at understanding or researching because if she were good at it she would have known that a 1000-1500 calorie very low protein raw diet is not healthy. I’m no raw expert but there is 1-2 things that will present problems in a raw diet, the first is you can not or should not be very calorie restrictive on a raw diet, the second you need to be as diverse as possible in what you are eating as a raw foodists. Alyse did both these things, so not only was she not doing a proper vegan diet she wasn’t even doing raw very well. All this could have been easily adjusted with some minimal research, reading book written by a vegan dietician, watching a video from a vegan dietician or even just using Cronometer a couple of times (it is f-ing free!). So this is where the frustration comes in people use her as example of why veganism doesn’t work because she goes online and says veganism made her sick, uummm what about addressing your uneducated choices or the fact that you were basically teaching an eating disorder diet? Where is the sense of taking personal responsibility? Veganism did not make her ill, having an ED did, but nobody mainstream non vegan seems to want to address this and this is what pisses us off. Why did anyone think a high school drop out who admits she’s bad at research sell health coaching (alright this part makes me want to slap some sense into other vegans). If you are going to critic this situation please critic her over inflated ego and stupidity as they were the problem not veganism. It’s so clear that her and others like her are most interested in their appearance and vanity and are not genuinely into health nor the animals, this would include the human animal. Veganism is an ethical choice, not a vanity focused starvation diet plan. If you are truly an ethical vegan you care about animals and the well being of people, if she truly cared about the well being of humans she would honestly address her own errors and she would certainly address how her meal plans and coaching were wrong as she did not have the qualifications or skill, she would address how her following pseudoscience and the just unproven erroneous health claims made by many raw foodists are wrong (ie beans are toxic and cooked food is toxic crap), if she cared about people and was a person truly practicing self development she would address especially how soooo much of her not feeling well was from not consuming enough calories and she would urge her young impressionable audience to not make the same mistake. She should do as Unnatural Vegan does and be completely forthcoming about her previous errors in knowledge. All this is why vegans like myself are irritated by this, but mostly we are irritated by the fact that non vegans reviewing this situation refuse to discuss this side of it and just say it’s veganism instead of acknowledging that the person was just an idiot and they were unhealthy because they did not practice healthy diets, veganism can be done healthfully or unhealthful just like every other diet. Please stop assuming or presenting that someone like Alyse was actually practicing a healthy vegan diet or that she represents what most vegans do. Please talk about the real problem, her and her inability to make intelligent choices and EDs.

I've got an idea!!! What if one were to COMBINE Veganism with the Carnivore Diet to make a NEW diet? What do you think? Am I onto something?

The switch was weird. It seemed paid for and I sensed that it was not genuine.

The point of veganism isn't shoving vegetables down people's throats, the point is to stop needles dying and suffering of animals as far as practically possible

I try to reduce the animal products that I eat, mostly for environmental reasons. I don't really buy into any of the health-based arguments but I don't really see any reason to support factory farming more than is necessary. I see what she did as somewhat offensive/disrespectful because it reveals how little she cared about the vegan movement. She obviously didn't give a shit about any environmental or ethical concerns if she was happy to switch to a carnivore diet for the sake of stirring up controversy. I don't think everyone needs to be a full-on total vegan, but imagine if large numbers of people started going carnivore? Can you be healthy eating mostly animal products? YES. OBVIOUSLY. That's not the fucking point. What's she gonna do next? Do a video: I lived off only seal meat for 30 days, but don't worry, I paid a member of the First Nations to do the hunting for me.
