7:20 actually MATN, Scrooge is one of the only ones who can swim through money. It's acknowledged in the comics and shows and leads to the defeat of some enemies thinking they could swim through it like Scrooge 😛

I liked the episode that established he could count his money while swimming, too. Takes him less than a minute to know if any of it is missing...and how much.
The guy who made the music for this game, Jake Kaufman, also made the music for the excellent, excellent Shovel Knight, which you should totally play.

Ducks have lamellae, which can function pretty similarly to teeth. They still don't normally chew, though.

There's a NES ROMhack that's co-op and player 2 is Darkwing Duck. You and Claire should play it :D

I can confirm it holds up to this day (played through it a couple months ago), but Quackshot from the Mega Drive needs a remaster. What a game.
Thank you for showing off one my favorite GameBoy games, now on the PC. Hoping you get to the Moon level and playing the music loudly. Some of the best music in the game! Digging out my GameBoy, popping a classic Ducktales VHS into my VCR, and having a nostalgic night. Thanks for the great video.
errr mah gerd i know right. i dug in my old toy chest and got out all my old comic books :@) so down to join you in the memory moment but my VHS tapes are in a box in the garage, the VCR is in a closet (both would require a ladder) i am not that ambitious and i am not sure where the game boy is. so comic books pop corn and coolaid will be my banging saturday night :@) lol so many memories

Learning that Jon also loves that old Duck Tales genie movie makes me love him even more. That film was my childhood, it was one of my favourites growing up!

Yea I would assume that Capcom only had digital right for so long. Also this old version of Ducktales clashes with the new cannon of Ducktales. If anyone hasn't watched it, do so. Its full of nostalgia and in jokes for the older crowd. It also has David Tennant as the voice of Scrooge McDuck. Yes the Doctor himself. Lastly, if for no other reason the moon episode has the original moon stage music in it.
I picked this up a year or so ago. Really glad I did it's fantastic, and that moon level is one of my favorite music from any video game.
Such an amazing game! My brother and I had this one on NES and I was brought right back to that time period.
Alan Young's final performance as Scrooge McDuck. RIP but he went out with one last ride. Supposedly WayForward were going to make a straightforward remake of the original without much in the way of story, but in the middle of developement Disney approached them to say they brought back all the original voice actors and asked if the script was ready, to the surprise of everyone at WF.
Ducktales movie was one of those childhood shaping movies, also I wanted a paddling pool sized sundae for so long :(
Never had this game myself but it's sad a classic is gone but lovely seeing you need out with some nostalgia

I saw the Duck Tales movie in the cinema with my mum. And we had a damn good time. And she bought me the VHS the moment it came out.

For anyone watching years later, like me, good news: the game is available again. Apparently it was gone for about a year in 2019-2020, and then came back.
Hearing Jon playing this game makes me want to go back and watch this show and Darkwing Duck again...
The original 8-bit graphics and levels aren't there, certainly, but the original music is. There's an option in the options menu somewhere to enable 8-Bit Music. The original cartoon theme song is there too if you watch the credits screen (or complete the game).
1989, blimey, I was still playing on an Amstrad CPC back then. Sad times.
"He's going to sell the giant mutation, super mutant zombie cheese to the highest bidder." Well, duh! This is a Capcom game. it's clearly documenting the true history of the Umbrella Corporation.

Ahh, my childhood right here. I used to be able to hire 5 video games for $5 for the weekend. I hired this out so much, we decided to buy it. Such a fun and joyous game
It's a shame, this entire game is gold. Here's hoping they'll be able to get it back up. There's always the NES version of course, but this one is just amazing. I've played entirely through it at least 10 times, even bothering to get every achievement on both Steam and PS4.
Also while you can't play the original levels, you *can* play with the original soundtrack! I don't remember if it's something you have to unlock or there by default, but I know it's an option.
This was a fantastic game way back when...the remaster is a fantastic game...and the best line in the remaster- Scrooge: A diamond the size of Mrs Beakley!

Thanfully I saw that it was being pulled from the digital shelf the day before and was able to buy a copy for all my friends who had wishlisted it

Its defintely licensing. This wouldnt be the first game to disappear everywhere for that. Most of the times we never really hear about it, but it's always licensing.
Jon if you love Ducktales the 2017 version is really good and i think you would like it
on the bright side, it was on sale for a while prior to being removed. sadly as Jon said it's too late for anybody else to buy it. but hey at least it's still playable.
I like remasters that fix or improve the game instead of just adding hd graphics.
Just got this game for the 360 in June.
I got the NES cart for Christmas 1989 and played the crap out of it for years til I finally beat it all in one go

Im kinda sad no one seems to know the comic book origins of the show. I grew up reading comic books with these characters. The Times and Life of Scrooge Mcduck is still the hypest shit ever.

Actually...(lore nerd moment)...there was a time, in the comic book, where Scrooge acknowledged there was a "technique" to diving in money.
It was a part where the Beagle Boys had used the law (irony) to get ownership of Scrooge's money and he tricked them by convincing them to allow him a final swim. After seeing him dive into it they decided to try and got knocked the fuck out. After which he winked at his nephews, and Donald, that there was a trick to doing it safely and they then carted the money back to his vault.

saw 'ducktales' on steam, bought it 8 secs later - but it's not the version i played growing up! i remember taking photos of creatures for score, exploring the maze of carlsbad caverns for treasure - this is not that game :(

i knew this was coming literally months ago, and yes it is indeed a licensing issue. basically capcom's license ran out and they didn't see a reason to renew it.
More like Disney won't renew game licenses with other game publishers, giving them all to EA... Which is a mistake as BattleFront 2 showed us.

I feel the tutorial was more to add a bit of a story, as the NES version was just go find treasure. All the sound files are the OGs, and the Cane was an invention my Gyro Gearlose.

I've never played a ducktales game, but I recognized the moon theme because the tune was used by an obscure furry musician.
Its funny that they couldn't fit the original game onto the gameboy cart- because I was recently looking to see if Pokemon red/blue could play on an NES cart. The file is 11MB, while Ducktales NES is 8.9MB-
So it could actually fit on a gameboy cart
The licence agreement probably ran out!
Did they back-port Oxychew from the new Duck Tales cartoon to the universe of the old one? I don't recall it appearing in the original cartoon.

I still believe the only reason the tutorial was added was because of the voice acting. They had the actors and they were going to use them damnit.... incidently this game also had way too much voice acting for a side scrolling platformer, it kinda drags on... a lot.

I could never get into this, the remake or the original. It clearly is a great game but I didn't click with it.
Yet Count Duckula on the C64 I adored, and its pretty much the same kind of game (multiple locations, items from each etc).
