In this video I'll show you how I painted up this Space Wolf, using a variety of chipping and weathering techniques to get that Grimdark feel.

If only I were good enough to make use of these techniques, I'll definitely come back to this later when I've gotten better and have a larger collection of paints.
Tip: don't buy too many paints learn to mix paints pick up a set of artist paints and learn colour theory

As you say, the 40k color is just too cartoony.
I’m also going to add in a few of the old Consul-Opsequiari. To really give them that old school rock and roll feel.

@@SprayBlackStudios The choice and modification process. If you mean a specific project, no. I'm just fascinated by the part selection and customizing process. I started I. ROGUE TRADER and was originally a military modeler so tweeking stuff is in my blood. Lol

Sick as always mate! Have to agree with you on the Necro Gold, I'm currently working on a Black Legion raptor and it's perfect for the trim. All of the Scale 75 metallics are a joy to use with a brush compared to Citadel
Thankyou! Yeah the scale 75 metallics are so much nicer to use than the GW ones. I still prefer the Vallejo Metal color range for Silvers but these scalecolour golds are stunning!
@@SprayBlackStudios I've not tried the Metal Color range yet, I think my wife would have a fit if I bought anymore paint 😅 I'm going to try out an urban rubble base using your grimdark base pigment tutorial too. Such a great channel mate!

Absolutely love this paint scheme and Im using it to for my current Space wolves project. Quick question - did you seal the enamels in after reductive painting before doing metalics or just leave them to dry as is?

As this was done for a tutorial I didn't seal the enamels in and rather just allowed them a few hours to dry. This is only because I am on quite a time crunch to get it ready in time to edit and release!
You can apply the metallics straight on top of the enamels without issue but if I was doing it away from the channel I'd likely do a thin coat of Matte varnish over the top just to add a little more protection.

Do you think it’s possible to recreate the finished model without a airbrush?
Can I use the worm effects and then paint over them with a normal brush?
I don’t own a airbrush and funds are rather tight, I wouldn’t even know we’re to learn airbrushing
Hey! I will be honest I've actually never brush painted over the worn effects but you definitely should be able to. Just make sure the worn effects is dry and the paint you are using isn't too watery! I may have to test this myself though!

Are you able to do this with just brushes or is an airbrush required?
Absolutely beautiful! Did you paint the model in one night or was it over a couple of days? Specifically regarding to the AK special effects then wiping it off
Thankyou! It was done over the span of a couple of days, most of the AK stuff was given about 20/30 minutes to dry before wiped off etc but as I was filming it around my full time job it was done in a couple of evenings 👍

Thanks bud! If by falling snow you mean the effect in the video then it's just an overlay that I found and then did a bit of premiere pro trickery!

how important is agrax earthshade and nuln oil vs homemade alternatives.
I've only used homemade alternatives a few times (I'm fairly lazy! 😂) but to be honest if you follow the tutorials by Geek gaming scenics for making them I've found them to be just as effective!
Have you thought of doing the Raptors for grim dark
I have considered and I actually have a fairly good idea for the armour colour too actually!

I'd love to see emperor's children in grimdark style. Bright pink in grim dark will be a great challenge for you.
Interesting, I think I'd probably go for a bit more of a purple tone but it could definitely be done!

Everything looked amazing until the end. The eyes made it look goofy.
The robin/sky blue wolves look horrible. The 30k gray is so much better.
I'm still baffled how some of these painters have over 100subs.... the end result is pretty average.
I'm sorry you don't find it up to your standards, fortunately there are many that have found this video quite helpful.

Thankyou! A nice soft drybrush would definitely also work although will give you a bit of a different finish.
