- Thought you were daunted before? Think again! Join Cody as he takes a look at this follow-up to last year's Undaunted: Normandy, a deck building WWII tactical squad based game from Osprey Games. Will your cardboard army triumph in the desert? Or will you just get sand on cards? Let's watch!

Undaunted: Normandy review: • TDG: Undaunted: Normandy
You have become one of my most favorite reviewers! Thank you for your thoroughly laid out opinions and your well-edited videos.
Thank you!
Agree on the insert being disappointing. Osprey is usually on-point there but dropped the ball with this series. All inserts for deck builders should accommodate sleeved cards in my opinion.
Indeed.
About the insert, if you toss it both games fit nicely in one box.
Perhaps I will do that some day. But it is not this day.
Great video. Agree on the color complaint. Just learning the game but think I will really like it. Bought Reinforcements already for the solo play. Thanks for your videos. 🍻
Thank you. I found solo play "meh." But I love the four player mode that Reinforcements allows.
Great news! Love the first one and I've been waiting for this to arrive. Thanks for the review.
Thanks!
Great review as always, Cody! Thanks.
Thank you!
"and if there's no plane that's the Luftwaffe."
I started cracking up and had my family staring at me. Which means it's a day ending in Y.
Thank you for helping me with my confirmation bias to buy this game. The first one is amazing and I'm intrigued and concerned about the vehicles but it sounds like that isn't an issue! =)
I think you'll get a kick out of it.
Great review Cody and I've being looking forward to the release of this as I played it's predecessor and like you was probably my top game of 2019 and even better that it was something that I just came across accidentally and it wasn't hyped in any way.
I think you will get a kick out of this one. Thanks.
Can't wait for the next theater of war, I bet its the Pacific war but maybe Stalingrad. Great series by Osprey Games!
Indeed!
Since vechicles came into play, I think it should be Kursk, a full tank battle.
Loved Normandy, but have wondered whether this was worth grabbing. Excellent coverage in this review, definitely going to pick it up at some stage. (recording tip: be conscious of "slapping" your hands against your thigh, e.g. during your frustration with the inserts. Once you notice that noise as a viewer, you cannot stop listening for it)
Thank you, sir. Will do.
I have a few games set in France but none in North Africa, and the asymmetry sounds pretty good. I’ll try this one out.
Excellent! You'll have a lot of fun!
Yes, a great system, and so expansive!
Next stop?
Eastern Front???
Hopefully!
Stalingrad just came out:)
This series seems like a fantastic system in which deckbuilding acts as an engine for the board, units and combat.
(I much prefer where deckbuilding is a mechanism to support a game eg Tyrants of the Underdark, RuneAge, Clank)
Unfortunately I have no interest in real-life war games...
I hope they one day make a scifi, fantasy, or medieval version!
Thanks as usual, Cody.
Thank you. I do hope you give this one a chance. I really thing you'd enjoy it.
Warhammer. Guardsmen vs tyranids please
The next game in the system is Sci-Fi themed!
I know! I petitioned for it... and it happened. What will I do with all this power lol
Good one! Another joke was: if the plane is british, the germans duck; if it is american, everybody ducks; if it is german, no one ducks!
Ha!
Next year will maybe be Undaunted KURSK? All tanks, all the time.
Ha!
Battle of Brody. Even more tanks.
Nice review, and it looks like some of my concerns regarding vehicles won't be an issue.
Regarding colors being close, it was really bad in Normandy. I thought they would fix that for this game, but I guess not. Using the flags would be a great help also.
Glad you liked the review.
Cody!, are you ever going to check out Combat Commander!?
Maybe at some point. Gotta admit, it's not a priority right now. Waiting for a fried to tell me they have it.
Do you know is there a plan for Undaunted: Pacific?
I have heard nothing that Pacific in the offing, but I'm sure we'll see something like that sooner or later. I do believe they are working on titles in this series.
I an curious can the Germans & US be used in Africa and vice versa?
I don't know how well they'd integrate. I'm sure you could make your own scenarios.
What is better game undaunted or tide of Iron ?
They are actually very different games. One is a deck builder/tactical wargame, while one is more of a traditional tactical wargame.
I like all mechanic in war board games , i just want to know witch is more fun , and witch one is more cleaver game and witch one I will play over and over again ...
Witch one you like to play more ?
@@TheMalimica Honestly, I go back and forth. They're both great games. But Tide of Iron is currently out of print.
Ok , lets make it this way , witch one is less luck and more tactical ?
That joke works better if the soldiers are Australian.
Ha!
An amusing story from World War II - lol
It's what I do.
Thx Tom
Tom?
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer yup, thx tom
@@janttu AH. You are Tom.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer negative
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer btw, who's tom anyway? Hey dyyde thanks for the video 😅
lol, Luftwaffe
Those crazy WWII Germans!
Nice review as usual but really disappointing game. After 11 plays and only 1 Italian win and that was with perfect card draw/dice rolls, we gave up and it now sits gathering dust. This game seems not to be playtested though we really liked the concept and game mechanics. Even when we looked online for tactics and where we might be going wrong, we'd already thought of everything. Also my mate appeared to have stumbled on a tactic, which made it even easier for the Brits, though I was done by the game by that point and we didn't play any further. Not tried Normandy but this has put me off giving it a go.
I’ve enjoyed every game I’ve played.
Wow a reply. Nice. The game was fun initially but....frustrating the more we played. We really liked the system and tile layout etc but as it 'appeared' so one-sided, we just got bored. I found it a shame for me, as it was really nice to have different countries from the usual WW2 fair. Love the reviews and humour by the way.
Thanks!
your jokes are getting -better- worse, much worse
.... why am I laughing
You have been seduced by the dark side.
It's like it is trying to reinvent its own wheel. I am disappointed, to be honest :/
Too bad. It's a great game!
Good, but the USSR! The USSR bore the brunt of the war! Russia as they like to call it.... Thank you Cody.
That was always my view as well, but I'd invite you to read Philips O'Brien's "How the War was Won." Very good book.
The Discriminating Gamer yes thank you. I just hope the designers take that into account. Normandy is really overdone by now....
@@varovaro1967 I chose to focus on the 30th ID in Normandy because that's the unit my grandfather was in, and I toured the battlefields where he (and the 30th ID) fought. It was designed largely in homage to his service and that of his unit. The Soviet Union definitely played a huge role in the war, that's for sure. Check out my game called Pavlov's House for my views on the valiant defense played by the Soviet soldiers in Stalingrad, for example.
@@davidthompson7233 Thank you for your kind answer. Of course the US role was indispensable for the Allies. But, of every 50 soldiers dead on WW2 only 1 (one) was American, if you take into account civilians, only 1 (one) in 200! But the gaming industry keeps pouring games on Normandy and the US against Germans in France... And the black soldier in the cover of Normandy does not correspond to their sad reality in the actual battlefield.... Anyway Congratulations on your games and I hope we can see a Undaunted Stalingrad, or Kursk, Leningrad, or Moscow or Sebastopol soon! Thank you both for your answers and respect to your grandfather´s service. Keep it up!
@@varovaro1967, The 1st, 8th, 9th, 69th, 78th, 99th, 104th and 106th Infantry divisions and the 12th and 14th Armored division were all integrated units during WW2. The infantry divisions included African-American platoons integrated into their rifle companies.
And am first BTW.
